t wasn’t easy at first. We struggled, fought, cried, and laughed at the same time. In the end, the only thing that gave us a sense of satisfaction was the final book that we looked over at our computer screens. The work experience each one of us had along with the support that everyone gave us not only helped in bringing out our first issue of Reverie but motivated us to keep going for you and for us. This issue celebrates Hyderabad. We have come together to formulate our very own special colour trend report that will help you sail through summers easily. Along with it comes brief notes on some of the biggest fashion designers from Hyderabad; we talk to a beauty expert who helps you code, decode with a capsule interview of Divyansha Kaushik, who we are sure is all set to make big. Coming back to our support system, our cover girl for the launch issue, Mehreen Pirzada is a showstopper. With eyes that might cast a spell over you, she ruled everyone’s hearts as she played her best as Honey. Our inside story with her will make you gaze, and we totally understand. Now, why not wait for our next issue? In the case of feedback, editorial@reveriemagazine.in Shahriyar Adil & Mitali Goyal

self taught designer with a degree in business administration and marketing decided to design clothes when she realised that her interest and passion laid in clothes. As she started designing, showcasing at fashion weeks, and last year as she launched her flagship store in Hyderabad, it made it quite clear that her collection is known to make its way too far. Her collection is dramatic, sophisticated, yet subtle at the same time. She is very well known as a designer who created modern looks and at the same time makes sure that her garments do not loose the Indian feel. The fabrics that she uses and experiments are breathable, light and silhouettes are fluids in their own tale of nonchalance. For her, the perfect Jayanti Reddy muse is a confident woman. And we expected the same.

s she entered into the fashion industry way back as a fashion stylist and a fashion editor who would knew that she would soon be considered as one of the biggest fashion designers in the industry. In her each piece, she makes sure that with the help of intricate zardozdi detailing she takes out the best of appeal. In her designs, one can easily notice the fabrics she is playing with, the perfection in embroidery, and the beauty of her floral patterns that is entwined with prettiest of embellishments. Her journey is a remarkable one and soon as she launched her brand way back in the year 2010, we have constantly been spotting celebrities. She currently designs occasion based attires, and hence, for her Anushree Reddy muse is a bride-to-be.

abel Shriya Som was launched by Shriya in the year 2014 after she trained under designer, Tarun Tahiliani. With each of her collection, as she comes up with a concept has a different story to tell. Her dreamy silhouettes combined with textural elements was something that Indian market craved for but Shriya Bhupal made sure that she could complete what the market lacked and here, the brand was born. She also makes sure that the colours being used also convey a story. Her collections are all inclusive of structured evening gowns, crop tops, full volume skirts, and much more. For her, the perfect Shriya Som muse is a edgy woman. And we love how she combines the romanticism of ruffles with edgy tone colours.

he is only three years old in the film industry, she goes by her conscious, and her only mantra to succeed in life is to listen to what your heart says. Mehreen Kaur Pirzadaa grew up enacting Kajol from DDLJ and danced to the best of her abilities to the tunes of Jeet starring Karishma Kapoor and today, her heart is only racing ahead to be the best and ahead of all. Her much loved character Honey from her recent film, F2, not only made the audience look at a different side of hers but the real her. We sat down for a brief conversation with her as she takes us into her journey. Excerpts: When did you decide that you wanted to be an actor? So, I had gone to study US on a 50 percent scholarship where I had some good college offers in hand due to my overall academic record. However, due to the sudden financial crisis, I failed to join college, which is when my family decided

to shift base from the US to Canada. It was once, sitting at home, a family friend suggested to participate in a beauty pageant and I went on to get crowned as ‘Miss Personality, Miss South Asia Canada 2013’. Since school days, my mind had been fighting like two wild horses as to what to become. I was fascinated by different professions such as — doctor, astronaut, Pilot, Actress, Miss Universe & so on, and at one point of time Dalai Lama’s disciple too. So, it then occurred, there is only one profession of being an actress where I could live multiple lives. Today, here I am into the most passionate creative field. Did your childhood influence you in any way to step into the industry? Yes. My very first film to remember was ‘DDLJ’ where I admired Kajol’s character and then I also remember dancing to the numbers of Sunny Deol and Karishma Kapoor’s ’Jeet.’ Of course, not to forget, Salman Khan, who has been my all-time favourite. I would enact their scenes, but little did I know about the hard work that an actor puts in. In a very short span of time, the audience and the industry as well has seen you evolve. What is your take on it? How have you grown, as an actor, in all these years? I am an instant decision maker. I listen to my conscious, anything that has good vibes attracts me and I always keep away from negative vibes. So, one fine day sitting in Canada, I tell my mom and brother, “Let’s go to Mumbai.” It’s the city of dreams and I was sure we would find our place. I came first; they followed me

a month later post winding up in Canada. And today, I think your gut is never wrong, the first thought never fails, and without any professional training, I started auditioning along with my brother. We would travel every day in a local bus or train/auto to different corners of this city and soon within a month, I get a call from Dove that I got shortlisted followed by Fair & lovely, Roop Mantra, Coke, Pepsi Pakistan, Nikon & so on. I was shortlisted for around 50 good ad commercials within 6 months. From Dove commercial, I got spotted into Telugu Industry for a super duper hit movie and soon Anushka Sharma liked my audition to launch me in Phillauri and since then, in just three years, I m 11 movies old already. Of course, each day spent on set teaches you a lot.You learn so much from your coactors and directors. How do you go about selecting scripts? What is the first thing you notice: your character or the story? As I said, first I go by vibes of the project offered, take a proper narration, I concentrate more on the content, then it’s your director who fills life into your characterisation as he narrates to you. Then, once my gut feel gives a green, I go for it. Of course, later it’s teamwork to make it a success. How do you prepare for your character?

How much time do you spend rehearsing? I am totally my director’s actor. I follow religiously what is being told but at the same time, I prefer getting my next day’s dialogues in hand one day prior so that I can work on my dialect, no matter Tamil, Telugu or Hindi, I like to make notes of my dialect. I like to be punctual and go prepared on set so, that at least I don’t waste anyone’s time doing retakes. It’s very natural to relate to your character or get attached to it. So, has this ever happened to you, in relation to any movie? Though an actor has no choice but to live that character that very moment while performing but yes, a few characters as well are very close to you or your personality. I try and identify that and perform. Having said that, my character as Mahalakshmi in my Telugu debut, Anu in Phillauri and Honey in F2. I have literally relived my own self into different moments of my life. These characters are very close to my heart. Your character in F2 was very much applauded by everyone. What were your expectations? The character in F2 though was very bubbly like me. I am known as, The laughing Buddha in my family; I can be really funny at times, but, Honey wasn’t a

cakewalk, it was a very demanding role and you needed extraordinary energy levels. Though I was very comfortable in my skin doing that, it was much easier as I could relate to the character but I actually lived it to its truest sense all those months off-screen too. I am glad I could touch the hearts of my lovely audience and that’s the best reward for an actor. I am so grateful to all for loving me aka Honey.

team you are working with. I am proud I could taste Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and spreading my wings into my very own Punjabi industry too. I love the versatility.

Did you ever feel any language barrier since you have acted in multiple languages? The best thing in us is our emotions, there is language to it, even silently one can emote the feelings. So for an actor, I don’t think language should be a barrier, you relate to stories and the character you are playing. At least, I did not feel that but of course, for dialect, it is very important to have a hang on the language too, but that hard-work relates you directly to your audience.

One actor and director that you are looking forward to working with? And what’s more in store for the audience this year? We have such vast talent and treasures in the film industry and it would be very unfair to name a few & miss on some. I have a dream wishlist of the directors I am the biggest fan of — Karan Johar sir, Raja Mauli sir, Sanjay Leela Bhansali sir, Imtiaz Ali sir, Gautam Menon sir, Zoya Akhtar, Ayan Mukherjee, Anurag Kashyap sir. And actors I would like to work with — Prabhas, Mahesh sir, Allu Arjun, Tarak, Ram Charan, Vijay Sir, Ajith Sir, Dulqer Salmaan, Ranbir Kapoor, Ranveer Singh, Arjun Kapoor, Salman Khan, Amir Khan, Kartik Aryan.

How much of a difference do you think there is in Hindi and Telugu movie industry? I think it is the same only. End of the day, all make movies, it’s all about the

What is that one advice that you have been given and you would like to pass on? Listen to your conscious always. Do what it says, don’t do where it doubts, you can never go wrong in life.

Time

Musings of at value for art and artists/sculptors but, over time, digital media has taken over the traditional artwork. Though, needless to say, I believe people are going to welcome back the traditional handmade artists for various reasons. As for me, I see and follow different graffiti artists from around the world and their work which is imminent on a huge wall. We have an ample amount of really good artists in our country too and its high time they should be recognised. Today, if we go back and talk about the civilisations, we talk about its art and architecture but not about its bankers and lawyers. I am a selftaught artist who believes that the very first human who did those cave paintings had learned it on his own. I have a complete obsessive disorder when it comes to art and that is where I ended up choosing ‘hyperrealism’ as my genre of art. It is actually creating works of art as realistic as possible.

April 2019

53

My work includes the people I get inspired from, the people I love, and I absolutely take them as a part of my life, and I would not mind selling, although I have never put them on sale or displayed in any exhibition ever. I make them for many other different reasons than just to exhibit. For instance, I had made an entire collection of six portraits of old people to depict their wrinkles, for I believed they are just not mere marks but they talk about life and experiences. and named the collection as ‘JhurriYom’ And recreating somebody was never difficult for me, I only find it very challenging to recreate hair strands when I according to how my hyperrealism works, and so I end up choosing pictures with less visible hair. There is this other side of me that believes that the bigger canvas the better the details. And that is how I ended up being a freelance graffiti artist as well. Graffiti is a freestyle and quick art, and on the other hand, you need a lot of patience with the realistic pencil drawings. Graffiti is not yet popular in the country itself, it is only now organisations like ‘Street Art‘ that have started to support big mural wall arts by collaborating with artists. But, I am sure it is booming now. People now are looking for art but they still need to learn to respect the artist. The value for an artist or a sculptor back then, during the Renaissance, was incredible. I believe every artist needs somebody like Lorenzo De Merci that supported the artists Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo. Until next time.

opularly and fondly known as Anu, a renowned makeup artist, Anita Kaushik realised her dream to step into hair & makeup industry at a mere age of 16, where most of us are more or less confused which stream to sideline. As she enrolled herself into a self grooming course, she realised what path she was on, and what she wanted to become and today, she is one of the best makeup artists in the industry. Be it bridal, fashion editorials, or glamming up celebrities; Anu has a vast clientele and she just plans to increase the pages. Somettimes back, Anu was invited for a trunk show where she talked about latest bridal trends and we got into a brief conversation with her to catch the best. Excerpts from the interview. Hello! First of all, welcome to Hyderabad and it was lovely seeing you talk all about bridal makeup. So, tell us what are the major trends of the year? I am always known for my minimalistic looks as I always believe to enhance ones own natural beauty with makeup. Makeup shouldn’t be layers. I give attention to perfecting skin and once skin is perfect rest can be minimum. Oh yes, and this reminds us of you mantra, “Makeup that’s you..only a little better.” So, why not tell us— one product that can come to our rescue on a bad makeup day? One product which instantly makes you feel groomed is kohl. And this is one product which you can play up and down. Smudge it for glam smokey eyes or wing it out for fun or just fill up waterline for casual look.

MUSE, and A terclass April 2019 reverie 57

…and what are your go-to makeup essentials that we will always fine in your bag? Although at my luxurious makeup studio in Delhi, you could spot tonnes of makeup with best of brands. But, my tiny makeup bag that I carry for myself has a small pot of concealer for spot correction, a kajal pencil, and two shades of lipstick — softer for day time and red for evenings. If you would have to choose between one, what would you choose? Bridal makeup, Fashion editorials, or glamming celebrities? As an artist I like every form of makeup; be it bridal, fashion or Bollywood. But, fashion editorials do allow me with creative freedom. Tell us, how has it been like working with celebrities? Are they open to ideas? Working with celebrities do not come as easy. They have their fix ideas and most of them stay safe about their looks and are not open to something new. But, plus point is your art gets maximum exposure through them. Name one celebrity with whom you have shared the best experience. Until now, my best experience of working with a star was Ms Vidya Balan. She is most humble celebrity. She trusts artist and gives them due respect.

“New season will continue with same Art Deco inspired like foiled lips, crimson eyelids, and glowing skin without the use of highlighters.” Is there any South Indian star that you would love to work with? From south, I have worked with Rashi khanna and she is lovely girl. Next, my daughter, Divyansha has just finished a Tamil movie with Siddhartha and has started her second Telugu project with Naga Chetanya. So, hoping she will be able to afford me soon (laughs). Can you predict any beauty trends for 2019? New season will continue with same Art Deco inspired like foiled lips, crimson eyelids, and glowing skin without the use of highlighters. To sum up, why not give us and the brides reading this story some tips? Since I believe in less makeup so my all time favourite tip to my brides is five-step routine. 1- 20-30 min any form of physical exercise. 2- 50 SPF sunscreen. 3- Drink two litres of water everyday. 4- A portion of fruit 5- 8 hours of sleep. These are my mantras for good, flawless skin.

To begin with, this gel eyeliner, unlike others, gives you a stroke of perfection. Giving a feel of a liquid eyeliner, its gel packed formula makes sure that your lips stay well decorated for good 12 hours (or maybe more). Adding to the brownie points is the fact that it is highly pigmented and dries off very quickly. You certainly can blink without any fear. Let’s not forget and mention this: Due to the richness of colour present in the liner, you can also use it to create smoky eyeshadow. Trust us, its all worth it. Just make sure you cover the lid well to avoid drying it out quickly. P rice : R s . 1 , 5 0 0 / Who doesn’t wish to have a flawless skin with minimal makeup and least of hard work? To achieve the natural look, you only need one coat to make your lashes look long and beautiful. The formula promises super light weight and gel-like texture and makes sure that your mascara, when applied, doesn’t clump. It is also enriched with Vitamin B5 and Biotin which keeps your eyelashes nourished and healthy. We say, give it a try. Although, little heavy on pockets but one time is sure worth it. Clarins Instant light lip comfort oil Who doesn’t wish for a lip product that sounds enticing to wear, moisturises lips, adds a little tint and makes you party ready? Well, we certainly do need it. We are not talking about moisturising matte lipsticks or tinted lip balms; but we are talking about lip oils here. Made to sit on your lips beautifully that does not run around, lip oils by Clarins are a must-have product for your vanity case. As brand reveals, these lip oils are made from plant extracts that help smoothen your lips and consist of slight tint and scent. The non sticky formula that comes along with the product makes sure that your lips are hydrated for long enough. Although, the gloss fades away after your eat or drink but that is certainly not a downside and shouldn’t be the decisive factor into making any decision. Last year, we experimented with unicorn colours, loved beach waves and went all long. However, this year, it’s all different. We picked out four hair trends that will stay, this year we promise! Minimalism is the key.

1

Curtain fringes It’s difficult to maintain

fringes, we get you. But, how about fringes that do not cover all of your forehead? However, if you have straight hair, we suggest you not to go ahead with this and maybe, opt for a feathery fringe on the front? We hear a yes.

Let your inner wilderness grow and channel the best of you. Maybe take some cues from celebrities? The bonus that bob cut gives you, you wouldn’t believe. It suits all face types. Yes, it does. It really depends on the length you wish to achieve. Be confident and let your hairdresser choose the length according to your face type and summers will be gone in blink of an eye.

Top knot

Save yourself and opt for top knot buns if you do not wish to experiment with hairstyles. The trendier one is: messy top knot. If you wish to achieve this, simply tie your hair in a ponytail and then twist it around in order to make sure the ends are loose and messy. Make sure to finish off with a hairspray, after all who likes baby hair?

Super straight

Do not call us mad if we tell you poker straight hair were always a big hit and they still are. As sported by a lot of celebrities in the past, its your match for a bad hair day or just in case you are running out of time.

erfect for scorching summers, this new launch by Salvatore Ferragamo can easily make for a bright and glamorous afternoon. With main accords ranging from vanilla, fruity, to woody, Amo would your ideal match if you are looking at something that could accompany you on multiple occasions. With packaging not too travel friendly, the bottle is translucent with tiny prisms that adds to the texture and increases its chance of being picked up while you stroll through a heavy range of fragrances. As you splash open, the soft fragrance and the fruity blast can help you overlook the price that it sells for but to us, this scent deserves it, considering how Ferragamo parfums have made teeny-tiny changes to notes but that certainly has made a great impact. Its top notes comprises of campari, black currant, and rosemary; middle notes are jasmine sambac, mate, and rhubarb while the base notes are Tahitian vanilla, ambroxan, and sandalwood. Its a light scent that might work for you during winters as well, which adds a bonus point. However, we were not too impressed with the longevity. It says for good five-six hours and in any case, if that works for you; Amo will certainly leave its print on your mind.

M-Powered Beast of the Road

There are certain accolades that should be bestowed very carefully. BMW’s M Badge is one of them. Is the 530i M Sport worthy of that badge? W ords

L

uxury business saloons and racy sports cars are two facets of the automobiles that go together really well, when married properly. However, in spite of their tremendous potential and demand in the Indian market, rarely do we see car manufacturers offer something that ticks these two boxes. Sure, there are a few options available in the market that claim to do that, but they often sacrifice on something or the other that defeats the purpose of a sports business saloon. BMW’s 530i M Sport, however, seems to have ticked all the necessary boxes that make a sports saloon great. The exterior is classic BMW, with swooping lines at the

74 reverie April 2019

flanks and creases on the bonnet that give it an aggressive and yet, subtly restrained look, with the front grill adding even more character and aggression. The interiors too, are quintessentially BMW - very classy and modern, with an understated finish. Thanks to the quality of the materials used, the interior oozes a premium feel, as one would expect. We are happy to report that the rear cabin in the 530i M Sport is very spacious and can easily accommodate three people on the rear seat. The rear seats have great leg room as well as head space. However, the actual fun of the car is all in the front cabin. For starters, the front seats have the best in class lumbar and thigh support, and a whole lot of gizmos to play with. You get a 10.5 inch touch display which can be used to control various aspects of the car, be it your music or satellite navigation. You

D as

even get a gesture control system, which, feels a little gimmicky at first, and takes a little time in getting used to. But once you get the hang of it, it really changes the way you feel about controlling your entertainment system. Most people who buy the 530i M Sport, will probably be using a chauffeur. We strongly urge them not to, for driving the 530i M is great fun. You get an inline four cylinder, turbo charged engine which produces 252 rampaging German horses, which feeds its power to an 8 speed automatic transmission. All of this combined, propels the car from a standstill to 100 kmph in just over six seconds. It isn’t as sporty as a proper, full-fledged sports car, but it surely feels as fast. The driving experience is sublime. The throttle is responsive and the gear changes brisk and seamless. Consequently, the acceleration

is smooth, gradual, and quick. And because the turbocharger kicks in quickly, the entire set up of the engine and the gearbox eggs you on to give this a proper thrashing. BMW knows this and therefore, has set the control and ride quality of the car as such. It does not handle as brutally as a typical track monster, but it is definitely more agile than its tall and bulky appearance would suggest so, all thanks to its clever engineering and lightweight construction. You don’t get any noise from the engine inside the cabin when you are cruising along, and the tyre noise and the wind noise is quite low. That’s how smooth and refined the drivetrain is. The steering feels very responsive and precise. Thanks to its chunky, but well defined proportions, it oozes the confidence that is required by drivers to really get seriously cracking with this car. The only complaint that we have, and this

is really nit picking more than anything, is that we felt that it lacked feedback, that it did not give away the texture of the road. All in all, the ride quality is sublime and beyond anything and everything, at the price point where BMW have pitched the 530i M Sport. This comes in spite of the fact that just by the flick of a switch you can turn this car from a sophisticated wine sipping aristocrat to a rampaging tyre shredding track monster. As for the tech enthusiasts, there are plenty of things to play around with. You get ambient lighting modes and six different mood lighting options, a multifunction steering wheel which allows you to control pretty much everything about the car without taking your hands off of the steering wheel, and BMW’s iDrive system, which, trust us, has improved leaps and bounds over the years. But the cherry on top of the proverbial cake is the smart key fob, or as BMW call it, the Display Key. It is a just like a smart phone dedicated to your car, using which you can control things like the air conditioning, and keep a track of all vital data. In Europe, it also allows drivers to park the car in a tight spot, once they get out of it. We wish that we could get something like that in India, but alas. Sure, there are other fast saloons that are really fun to drive. The Jaguar XF, for example. But they don’t feel as precise and mechanical. Most of them are great business saloons and are great tools to carry you to your next business meeting, exuding the sense of power and awe that you would want it to. The BMW on the other hand, will make you feel special, as you drive there.

Bose QC 35 II – These are the quintessential ANC enabled wireless headphones. Everyone knows that Bose make the best audio equipment. But, in order to experience just how good these pair of headphones actually are, one has to experience them. Compared to the rest of our selection, these have the flattest sound profile, meaning, they are not bass heavy, and reproduce a more natural sounding aural experience. We don’t even need to get started on their noise cancelling capabilities, for the Bose QC 35 and the QC 35 II set the golden standard for ANC. Noor Baig How and when did the journey with Qadir Ali Baig Theatre Foundation start? I was working for the Australian Consulate-General in Chennai, on the South Indian edition of OzFest. I met Mr. Baig at the finale at John Zubryzcki’s book reading at Falaknuma Palace. At the gala dinner at the Palace and later on the phone, we talked about Qadir Ali Baig Theatre Foundation and Mr. Baig’s fascinating commitment to theatre. He then invited me to write a play for the Foundation. We collaborated on this and discovered our mutual wavelength in terms of mind sets and working styles. Along the way, he invited me to play the role of Bhagmati to his Quli. I came to Hyderabad for the rehearsals and our first show of Quli: Dilon ka Shahzaada at the majestic Golconda Fort to an audience of over 1200. After you first collaboration with the Foundation, what inspired you to continue the association with the group? ‘Quli…’ was growing popular, with invitations to perform all over the country and from prime festivals around the globe. It felt natural to eventually disassociate with the Australian Consulate and join the Foundation, with the then upcoming edition of the annual Qadir Ali Baig Theatre Festival and regular shows in Hyderabad. Soon, owing to the unprecedented success of ‘Quli: Dilon ka Shahzaada’ around the world, we began working on our second play together, ‘Savaan-e-Hayat’, the sequel to ‘Quli...’. Did you ever write a play before ‘Quli…’? What all went through your mind when Mr Baig asked you to write the play? ‘Quli...’ was my first full-fledged script. Mr Baig had an interesting concept in mind about a dialogue between these two characters, who reappear from the annals of history, to together narrate their unconditional journey of love. Its beauty had to be in its ability to transcend time and

be relevant to audiences who would relate to it as a tale of triumphant love. Research (both historical and legendary) presented key points such as their cultural differences, King Quli’s astounding prowess as a poet, the incident of the Musee flood and Bhagmati’s untimely death. It was a matter of weaving them dramatically and emphasising on the emotions and philosophy inherent in such an unlikely yet pre-destined relationship. How has the experience been like, coming into a family with such an illustrious legacy as this? How did you manage? I was very lovingly initiated by the Foundation family. Mr. Baig has always made me feel comfortable and given me space to utilise my potential and skills. Often, I am the youngest in the room as some of my colleagues at the Foundation are second generation into the team but still, my opinions matter and I’ve learnt the value of respecting and valuing every single individual in a team.

Mohammad Ali Baig How were the initial days like, when you decided to revive the theatre culture in the city? On Baba’s 20th death anniversary in Hyderabad, I accompanied Ammi to the Urdu Hall on a Sunday morning and I was astounded to see the emotional speeches being made in his memory by his contemporaries, friends and fans. The Minister of I&PR of the state invited my mother, Begum Razia Baig and I, along with a few reputed senior artistes, to form a Foundation in Baba’s name, as a tribute to him and to revive theatre in Hyderabad as there had been a vacuum since his passing away in 1984. “Why are you flogging a dead horse” or “Why would you leave advertising for theatre” were some of the questions people asked. Our aim was to produce world-class theatre in Hyderabad. So we brought in the

“It’s a bonus having your spouse as your colleague. The flip side is you never ‘get back home from work’.” finest plays from the most distinguished practitioners, solely on the basis of the exponential quality and body of their theatre work. Who were the people that helped you kick start the journey and believed in your vision? Late Kadir Zaman, M.S. Sathyu, Vani Ganapathy, Lakshmi Devi Raj, Ayoob Ali Khan and actors from my father’s repertory, Anwar Ali, Vijay Prasad, S.A.Majeed, Rashmi Seth and my ad film production team of Lakshmanachary and Anuj Gupta who are firmly part of our Foundation. As importantly, Mr. C. Parthasarathy and Karvy who fuelled my vision from the beginning. After years of establishing the foundation and reviving the theatre culture what do you plan next? I never really plan but have a lot of ideas always in motion. ‘Celebrating Theatre’, ‘Master Classes’, ‘Theatre Weekends’ were new concepts that now

even established culture centres in Delhi and Mumbai have sort of copied. The 13 year old Qadir Ali Baig Theatre Festival is a benchmark theatre event for the country with its curating and logistics model. Of late, post the blockbuster success of my debut film in Tamil ‘Aruvi’s, I have several film projects on hand. As an actor, I always look to push my own boundaries. Noor Baig & Mohammad Ali Baig Do you divide your areas of work in managing the foundation? NB: Mr. Baig curates, writes, acts, designs and of course, directs. I write, act and am involved in almost every aspect of the Foundation and Festival’s coordination. MAB: We have an evolving work process every day and it’s great that we finish each other’s sentences and keep moving. It helps that we’re good travel partners. How do you manage your personal

and professional life? As work and home are linked in your case, does it make your life hectic or it is other way around? NB: The lines are blurred but our work is so consuming that it doesn’t feel like a burden. Of course, when we travel we have to sometimes remind ourselves to take a break and take in a place, rather than just focus on work. MAB: It’s a bonus having your spouse as your colleague. The flip side is you never ‘get back home from work’. Our breakfast table, tea lounge and dining are all workplaces even when not in office. What roles do you play in each other’s life on a professional level? NB: Mentor-mentee, friends, colleagues, travel buddies. A sense of humour keeps things from getting stressful and that’s how it is for us. MAB: I suppose we have learnt to view each other’s and therefore, objective perspectives on anything.
