CENTER CITY LEADS THE WAY! SALES INCREASED BY 44% Philadelphia’s housing market experienced a major revival during the first quarter of 2010, as home buyers took advantage of expiring federal tax credits and low mortgage rates. In Philadelphia County, the number of homes sold jumped nearly 15%, while the median sales prices increased 1.2 % compared to the first quarter of last year. Home sales increased across the board in Philadelphia, with Center City leading the way at 44%, followed by West Philadelphia at 30% and South Philadelphia at 21%. Center City experienced the most dramatic resurgence in the first quarter, as homes sold faster and the median sales price jumped 7.4%, to $350,000. Rittenhouse Square (19103) was THE place to buy in Center City, with a dramatic188% increase in sales, followed by Old City (19106) at 58% and Center City — Number of Homes Sold Fairmount (19130) up 44% in the first quarter 80 2010 vs 2009 2009 vs. 2010.
