Education minister awards the Ministry of Education and Science to Calasanz On March 10th, at the National Library of Madrid, in an official ceremony presided over by the Minister of Education Mr. Iñigo Méndez de Vigo, the First National Award for Quality and Innovation in Vocational Guidance was handed over by the Ministry of Education for the project “Coaching skills for Professional Excellence”. Re-

presenting the school, the Headmaster, Javier Moratinos, and the Head of Career Guidance and author of the project, Rafael Balparda, attended the event. The representative of the SubDepartment of Vocational Training, Begoña Arnaiz, attended the ceremony too. The project presents an innovati-

ve approach to career guidance of vocational training students through modern methodologies, personal and professional skills assessment processes and “coaching” techniques. Our goal is our students to be trained to guide their professional future in the Society of the XXI century.

Our ‘Erasmus’ are already in their destination country As usual at this time, our most “adventurous” students pack their baggage to enjoy a ERASMUS scholarship, training in a company in a European country. This year twelve of our students have obtained Erasmus / Leonardo da Vinci grants to train in companies in Europe in two projects promoted by Confebask and AICE. They will travel to Portugal, En-

2

gland, Italy and the Czech Republic not only to train in companies but also to talk and work using a different language from theirs, to meet people from different cultures and ways of thinking. For most of them this is the first time away from their families and friends. It is a challenge that will definitely make them more competent and more open and it is also an expe-

rience that every year more students want to live. Besides academic representation is very varied; students from our different professional families, that is, Administration, Health and Socio-Cultural Services and to the Community will enjoy the scholarship abroad. We wish you all the best and, enjoy the experience!

Thus, the hard work of entrepreneurial awareness that is done in our school, is comple-

ted with a line of advice and support to all those brave people who want to set up their own business in a real way and choose to make a living as entrepreneurs. If business projects so require program participants may also use other facilities such as the school works-

hops for prototypes of the product under study. The school will offer a person performing work of awareness and invigoration of business projects. The aim is to support and stimulate all the business ideas that have promoters willing to carry them out in the future.

LURRASKA STAY: WORTH REPEATING! On 5th February we went to Lurraska Environmental Center to spend two days and one night over there. There, the atmosphere is completely Basque. We met many kinds of animals and their characteristics: horses, pigs, cow, rabbits, deer, chickens ... the pony ride will be unforgettable! We baked bread as our grandparents used to. How delicious our bread rolls! What about lunch? Macaroni, lentils, soup, cheese and ham in breadcrumbs, meatballs, chocolate sandwiches ... eveything, delicious! We moved the body at the disco dancing modern and old songs. We do not forget health habits; such as wash our hands before eating and brushing our teeth after every meal. And, as we are autonomous, we had to prepare our luggage, we cleaned our desks and our job was to sweep too. The weather has been pretty good in the end. For all this and the so nice atmosphere, it was a worth repeating experience!!!

Communicative interactions with European schools The students of 2nd and 5th grade of Primary have been recording videos in the last two weeks to introduce themselves. These videos are going to be sent to Salisbury Road Primary School, which is located in Plymouth, England. They are also going to send us their videos to meet them and their school. This is a great opportunity to create more meaningful learning experiences by providing our students real live communicative interactions. San José de Calasanz is also collaborating with other European schools through the eTwinning project.

First year Marketing & Advertising students overcome the E.S.I.C. challenge As it is usual in our school’s methodology our aim is to approach the labour situation in each of the vocational training areas so that our students can gain practical experience linked to their professional future. Likewise, the students of 1st year of Marketing and Advertising participated in an entrepreneurship competition organized by one of the most prestigious schools of Marketing at State level, the School of Business Research, better known as E.S.I.C. This contest is called

‘E.S.I.C. Challenge’ and it intends to raise awareness about the importance of marketing in entrepreneurship. During a simulation process the students have had the opportunity to devise, create and promote a business idea, especially reinforcing aspects of marketing. In the picture they are smiling with the recognition that this prestigious school of marketing sent them, recognition that can be an excellent added value to their degree. The aim of this association is to inform those affected people about scientific advances, to collaborate and encourage both socially and financially and to stimulate research to cure this disease.

Zabalketa visits the class of social integration

San José De Calasanz With Women

On March 8th, International Women’s Day, a joint project was carried out through Youtube in which all the first year students of Vocational Training participated. Each class of students chose a woman representative of this day (someone related to their profession, society, the family etc. ) and recorded a video explaining that election under the slogan ‘San José de Calasanz with women’. Thus, we claimed the importance of this day and of those 146 women who on March 8th 1908 died in a textile factory in New York because of arson,

while protesting at their miserable working conditions. You can view the videos on the Youtube channel of the school. In addition, Ana Pizarro a 22 year old photographer , blogger and size model that breaks down stereotypes of ‘typical’ models gave a talk to students of 1st year of Administration and Finance and Marketing and Advertising about her entrepreneurial experience as a woman in the world of fashion bloggers. Thank you very much, Ana, for your collaboration with our school in this special day for all women.

Pilar Osonoz, Zabalketa team member in development cooperation projects and specifically in defense of the rights of women in Bolivia, visited the school and gave a talk about their main areas of work. First year Social Integration students take advantage of the visit of the expert Pilar to solve a challenge of development cooperation in Bolivia and they analyze the comparative framework between Bolivian and Basque women. One of the most significant activities will be a Skype video conference with Bolivia for the dissemination of this project they are undertaking.

Dual training grows in san jose de calasanz This is the fourth academic year in which several VT students will attend the second year of their Educational Cycle working in a company after having signed an employment contract. What initially was called HEZIBI and now everybody knows as VOCATIONAL DUAL TRAINING looks like what years ago everyone knew as ‘training in alternation’ and even the oldest people confuse with the large iron and steel companies’ ancient training schools of

the Left Margin in the last century. Dual Vocational Training means to alternate work in the company with training in school. All this properly coordinated and supervised by the Basque Government. In Dual VT the role of companies hosting a student with a maximum working time of 75% is crucial. While he/she works the student will learn their profession and to complete all the technical knowledge that the company does not provide or is essential for tra-

ining , he/she will attend school classes to complete their school day. During the 2015-16 academic year 8 higher vocational training students have benefited from this training - employment opportunity. 100% of the students who participated in previous dual VT courses go on working in the companies they joined, which proves this modality’s usefulness promoted by the Sub-Department of VT as support to employment of young graduates in VT.

SECONDARY STUDENTS THE WORLD OF OPERA

Last month, on January 26th, 3rd year secondary students had the opportunity to visit Euskalduna Palace to enjoy a rehearsal of the opera La Sonámbula and to know Euskalduna theatre behind the scenes.

10

At about seven o’clock in the evening a guard of the museum called Aitziber showed the students the back stage and the dressing rooms. Students had the chance to see the actors and singers being

made-up and the world behind the scenes as well. Finally, students saw the first performance of La Sonámbula and they loved the show. How does the love story end?

Professional Certificate in Sales Activities

Agents 21, guards of good habits in favour of sustainability Agents 21 are groups of children who are involved in monitoring that everything related to sustainability at the school works properly. Thus, they control the proper use of the services, responsible paper consumption, recycling in classrooms. They advise on the appetizers, care about environment and we are constantly reminded of the importance of controlling light and water consump-

tion and much more. Agents 21 have a busy schedule. They are not only responsible for these activities for Primary students but also encourage good habits in Secondary and Vocational Training students. Our agents have many tasks of great responsibility but thanks to them, everything goes much better. Come on, mates!

Opera and classical music enter the school by the hand of ABAO and BOS On March 8th 2nd and 3rd Secondary students went to Euskalduna Palace to become better acquainted with the BOS ( Bilbao Symphony Orchestra ) and understand how an orchestra works. During the visit the students could be present in the orchestra rehearsal and they could see the different rooms where musicians can rehearse or relax during their workday. They were also shown the warehouse where they keep the instruments and a large num-

ber of percussion instruments whose origin and different characteristics were explained to them. But undoubtedly the most striking thing was when, with the sounds of the students they were organized and run as if they were an orchestra and could see the hard work of the conductor to harmonize and make everything sound good. A very interesting experience to give significance to what is already known in music classes.

San Jose de Calasanz collaborates with Serinfor to offer their students of the course ‘Certificate of Competence in Sales Activities’ the necessary knowledge about POS (Points of Sale), functions (payments, charges, discounts, promotions, auxiliary functions, stock control), the elements that make up a POS and operation basic knowledge. In addition, these students have engaged in a signage activity related to the Stimulation and product presentation at the Point of Sale. The aim of the project was to signal common areas of the school with an only material: colorful vinyl. They have selected the laboratory and hall, women and men toilets and adjacent children’s area decorated with a marine theme. The result has been very visual and no signal has remained unnoticed. It is an activity that includes the subject in which they have also worked on the decorative packaging and everything related to the points of sale areas and stimulating actions to promote sales in a commercial establishment.

€ 2,500 Euros were raised by calasanz’s charity market to cáritas Second year Social Integration students decided to donate € 2,500 of the money raised by the charity market for ‘Accompaniment programme for homeles’ Giltza Cáritas project. Giltza is a Service for the social incorporation of homeless. This intervention is based on an individual, comprehensive and continuous care to achieve greater autonomy in the subjects, improving their living conditions, adaptation to different contexts of development and overcoming their difficulties.
