Lauro School students visit Calasanz’s Basque Week On May 26th our first and second year primary students were visited by fourth year secondary first stage and first year secondary second stage Lauro students. As part of the Basque week, a learning and service activity was scheduled, that is, older students, in this case Lauro students taught younger students, in our case 2nd cycle students in Early Childhood Education. The aim was that our 3, 4 and 5 year old students could communicate in Basque with older students. To do this , each of the five corners of the room were organized and , in this way , students could learn symmetries , geometric shapes to create images , the game of dominoes and sheet metal workshops to learn the alphabet and shapes , sizes and colors. And the most surprising thing: students designed and created all the games and spent a great time with the children. They had a very positive attitude towards the students and were delighted that we are eager to repeat this experience. From these pages, we would like to congratulate these young people in their manners, commitment and
2
attitude. Thank you all. And thanks especially to the promoter of this initiative: Jon Andoni Gómez, an innovative school teacher- who presented an initiative in ICOT that prompted the development of
materials for students and selflessly promoted this initiative which we all very much enjoyed. Many thanks to Jon, to school children and to the management team for enabling this activity.

Singing with Josu Bergara
And to complete this Basque week, Josu Bergara, the popular singer, came to be with our primary school students. As before, this time we had the opportunity to sing with him . It was really encouraging to hear Josu and children together. Josu, Thank you!
The Basque week As every year from 23rd to 26th May we enjoyed the Basque week in our school. At all levels and stages a lot of activities in support of the Basque language and culture have been conducted: ‘talo’ workshop, popular sports, Txantxangorri’s hand-made labor etc. We spent a unique morning and afternoon in the Basque atmosphere. We are looking forward to preparing next year’s. Do you want to know more? Let us go step by step and see what happened in the Week! High school students also enjoyed the Basque week! During the week, they had a great time in the game and workshops in the afternoons. We had everything: sports, handball and tennis tournaments, ‘treasure hunt’ gymkhana, ‘pass the word’ game , as well as folders and sheet metal workshops! But without a doubt the most successful event was the ‘talo’ workshop… students and teachers enjoyed the Basque environment more comfortably with their stomachs full of talo. Txantxangorri (Robin) was the star of the week because, as you
know, it is the symbol of Basque language and this is the reason why we made with his image details to decorate folders and sheel metals, as shown in the picture. On the other hand, congratulations to Ibai Perez and Jorge Rodriguez did not have a rival in ‘pala’ and handball championships; to Iker Aguilar , Asier Rodriguez and Gaizka Fernández who in perfectly arranged ‘the search of treasure’ ; and thanks in general to all students of 4th year secondary students for their help.

Celebration of the Book Week at the School April comes, with its rainy days and in San José de Calasanz we celebrate ‘The Book Week’. They are special dates when we pay tribute to the books, which teach, excite and amuse us in such a considerable way. For one week, students, parents, grandparents, teachers share in the classroom readings, stories, experiences that are already part of the culture of our School. It is a week in which we, adults would like to move children toward reading, sharing with them our love of books. This year we have exceeded all records of participation of families. For four days 70 families of students have visited our classrooms. What have we done? To read as if it were a gift, telling tales and stories that have delighted children because the readers were their parents, siblings or grandparents. How proud they felt when seeing their mothers, their dads reading! See us read: the most wonderful way to encourage reading! The closing ceremony took place with the reading of all children and adults in Preschool and Primary students’ courtyards, all of them in silence, sitting on the floor with cushions that each of them had brought from home, engrossed in reading. An unforgettable image. From these pages, we would like to thank the participation of families and encourage them to enjoy again Book Week 2017.

Lively Feast of the School celebration
On May 27th we celebrated the Feast of the School in a very lively atmosphere. The weather was great and allowed us to enjoy the scheduled activities to the fullest. As every year, in the early morning Primary students and their families gathered in the church to hold a ‘Thanks
Giving Event’. Then activities and games began. On this occasion, a giant table football was brought and it was a very successful idea. Workshops, inflatables, sports competitions ... and a great appetizer that AMPA (Parents Association) was responsible for managing and sharing
among students of the School. In the afternoon, lots of dancing, lots of music and a brilliant happy ending organized by the AMPA (Parents Association) and so the festival of joy stretched on until almost seven o’clock in the evening.
Praise of a teacher
Once upon a time a young teacher joined our School many years ago. Here she worked, taught, fell in love, she enjoyed, cried. A lifetime devoted to our school, her family. And now she retires. Her name is Begoña. An icon in San José de Calasanz. She was able to win the respect of students, parents and colleagues. She taught well in the classroom and she knew how to apply a gentle, elegant discipline that has deeply helped generations of students. She kept excitement and enthusiasm until the last day. Two months ago she left chalks, desks, study breaks, tests and classes to engage in travelling with her husband, walking, caring for her granddaughter , making life easier for their children and in enjoying which she greatly deserves. Receive our gratitude and appreciation. Thanks Bego.

Warm-hearted welcome to 5 year old children
On Tuesday May 31st, our 1st year Primary students were great hosts for their future mates. What a welcome! They went to pick them up at their classroom and they led them to Primary classrooms like real cicerones. That day Hegoa was also with us, whom we have so much missed this year. After the correspondent survey, one hundred percent of our five year old students gave a resounding yes to their access to Primary School. The ride of bubbles with which they parted was endearing. It was a very endearing moment both for children and adults. See you in September, FRIENDS.

The Academy of artists comes to an end The first ETHAZI promotion (High Performance Cycles) of the SocioCultural Services and the Community department completes its first year of operation with great success. We have moved from a traditional passive approach where students receive, memorize and make tests to an active methodology where students of the higher training cycles of Early Childhood Education and Social Integration are the protagonists of their own learning, exploring, ‘deciding’ , self - managing and developing their professional skills of their cycle. To this end they usually leave the classroom, attend seminars in various educational and social organizations, implement workshops, always with the help of the team of teachers who guide and energizing the entire process. Students of higher training cycles live their profession practically from the start progressively closer to what in the near future will be their job.
In this way the student develops the most of his/her talents and personal, social and professional strengths. They
manage to find their inner artist at the Academy of artists of the chosen cycle.
