‘Teaching in all areas is characterised by high levels of individual support and guidance. Teaching displays excellent subject knowledge. Relationships are very good in lessons and in extra-curricular activities.’

• OFSTED • • Admission enquiries: williamsc@budmouth.dorset.sch.uk •

Choosing the right school for your child is one of the most crucial decisions you will ever have to make. The right decision will be profoundly rewarding for your child’s future. Budmouth seeks to provide parents with as much information as possible. All receive a brochure and are encouraged to visit our website. There are two Open Evenings in early October when parents and children are welcome to meet staff and students and see what makes Budmouth so special.

Children join the college from all over Weymouth and Portland and to ensure that they feel secure and happy in making the move we provide: • The college’s Primary Liaison Teacher who meets with students and their teachers in the primary schools • College Open Days for new students in July when they visit us, tour the site, sample some lessons and meet their new Tutors • An introductory meeting for all parents and children with a senior member of staff where questions can be answered

Parents recognise that Budmouth provides a secure and happy learning environment. Inspectors have noted that the college has successfully created a supportive and caring atmosphere in which students grow and flourish. We are firmly committed to traditional values and high standards.

• Budm@il, a parental email service answering your questions and providing essential information throughout your child’s secondary career

• A dedicated team of Peer Mentors who work with the children helping them to settle in • Fresher’s Camp which provides a residential adventure in their first days at college allowing students to make new friends and meet many of their teachers • An Induction Week of activities specifically designed to help children feel comfortable in their new college • A Parents’ Evening in the autumn term and another in July. • A special ‘First Day’ when new students have the college to themselves

Joining Budmouth

‘Students’ personal development and well-being, including their spiritual, moral, social and cultural awareness, are outstanding. Students thoroughly enjoy their education at the college they are extremely proud and pleased to be at Budmouth.’

• OFSTED • • Pastoral care questions: simmonitej@budmouth.dorset.sch.uk •

How a child settles into college, feels happy and secure and is encouraged will determine their success. With this in mind, the college has established the faculty of ‘Cared For’ to provide a holistic approach to pastoral care which supports every student right through their secondary career. The faculty seeks to empower students to be able to make a life for themselves that is fulfilling, enjoyable and responsible. Every youngster will meet with their tutor before they join the college, and that tutor and their Year Leader will stay with them right through their secondary career. This relationship is vital as it allows the tutor to get to know the student and establishes continuity of care.

In particular, we will equip our students to: • Enjoy learning and achieve the highest standards in college and in life • Live a safe, healthy life by developing mental and emotional wellbeing and fostering effective and fulfilling relationships • Make decisions based on the values that underpin our society

• To be active and informed citizens who make a positive As well as their personal tutor, every student contribution has an academic tutor with whom they • To be enterprising and achieve financial security meet on a regular basis throughout the year to monitor progress and achievement. Any problem can be discussed and targets set and these are then highlighted to the staff and parents.

The college also has teams of trained Peer Mentors and Peer Mediators who work with students to make them feel secure and to resolve any issues they may have. The college aims to develop confident individuals and successful learners who are able to lead fulfilling lives and make a positive contribution to society. We look to extend horizons and raise aspirations by helping our students to discover their talents and interests.

Care For Students

‘There is excellent vision, drive, and energy and an infectious commitment to serving pupils’ needs by constant improvement. Standards are rising at a much faster rate than nationally. Behaviour in and around the College is excellent, it would be difficult to find another school where students are so well behaved.’

• OFSTED • • New campus questions: akersd@budmouth.dorset.sch.uk •

For children to feel happy and be confident in their learning, it is vital that they are provided with a comfortable and supportive environment. To this end, we are now in the process of rebuilding our entire campus. This project marks an exciting milestone in the continued development of Budmouth Technology College and one from which all our students will gain enormous benefit. Our campus which covers some twelve acres, overlooks the Fleet, is on the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site and is undoubtedly one of the most attractive locations in the country. The new architectural plan provides many additional features including specialist areas for all subjects with integrated ICT throughout. Our plan also includes user-friendly play and relaxation areas for students. The architectural brief required that the rebuilding project created a campus ambiance through landscape spaces and remodelled recreation areas.

Our new campus will include: • Lecture Theatre • Specialist suites for all subject areas • Art accommodation to include 3D areas • Dining and recreation halls • A new 6th Form Centre • A central Resources Centre for all faculty areas • Air conditioned ICT suites integrated right across the college • Landscaping and wildlife habitat areas

Construction of the new building, which will not interfere with current facilities, will commence in 2008 and the major work will be completed by 2010. We will gain a state of the art hi-tech campus designed to meet the needs of a Technology College and ideally suited for delivering a high quality education so essential for the success of our students in the 21st Century.
