there of how people met how things started um so introduce yourself really quick and then how did you meet each other well I'm David P Conley the

original member of surfice and uh I'm John fever and uh I'm the new le single from service oh you're the new guy that's right it's not easy being a new guy oh no not at all

I we've been we've been doing it for a while though it's not like it's not like we just started this this new thing happening because we started out uh

I guess but as a resurface thing with John fever and when he came it's been over 10 years now that we've been together singing together so it's been a while so well you're not that new then John no not that you he's not that new he's a new guy but he's not that new he's got his 10 he's got his ten year now he got his ten year oh okay never mind never mind you don't count no more John and we still do the best we can do just bring that old music back to everybody you know just trying to bring it back the way we did it and the way

they remember it all the uh the memories that they've had in the past in the early are when life was pretty good I

would say a lot of love in the air it was it was so tell me I mean there's so many different legendary songs that you guys have composed even John being a 10e you know what I mean it's like uh why am I not getting John don't worry about it we'll edit anyway so there is just so many different wonderful songs that you guys have had that um really really capture the essence of surface what is your favorite song David and why hands down closer and Friends hands down because that particular song the composition the the the lead vocals the sound the the the production it it just shows a beautiful blue color to me when I listen to it it actually has a color to it and that was actually one of the colors that we had back in in the day you know beautiful

blue like like the uh like the sky in the ocean but that particular song it just always touched me in a certain way everything about surface is literally in that particular song on everything that we could do right I love it I love it and John what is your favorite song from surface and why Well he kind of stole my answer oh um I was gonna say closely and friends too but he since he stole my answer I will say I love to perform the first time something about um the style of the song um the the the um the emotion that um Bernard put into the song So for me to just to attempt to try to duplicate that and the reaction that we get to the song especially at the the end of the song it's it's right it it kind of starts off then it comes to a to a to a

peak and it's it's it's a beautiful song I I love music love it absolutely love it the Performing is is is somewhat of a rush you know it's like you're there everything comes to that Pinnacle where you've performed you've practiced you've rehearsed you've written you've recorded and here it is the Pinnacle

what is it like for you guys when you go out there and there's so many people out there that just love surface did you ever ever think that this would ever become a reality for you no that's not something that you just automatically think it's going to happen you wish it's going to happen you know I remember we have a mentor we had a mentor named David towns I mean uh um Ed Townsen he was David Town's dad and he would always tell us from the beginning days you know that we should do music that's going to outlive us we didn't know what that really me of course he wrote Let's get

it on outlived him many many songs for The Impressions and many many different people people including himself for your love he wrote songs that outlived him right and he wanted us to kind of be like the same way to take some music instead of just doing fast music fast cars fast everything you know that's what he claimed we were back then you know and all of a sudden you know like 30 or so OD years later it actually happened you know David Townson passed away back in 2005 our music you know outlived him and hopefully it'll out live me as well I hear you and John you know you're not like you're a tenure okay so you're not really kind of like new you know the newest edition what I mean did you ever believe that this would happen to you that you would join such a legendary group and be involved in something that really you didn't start but now you can be be blessed to become a part of um no

never never in my wildest dreams um you know come growing up um you know I I had aspirations to to sing and I had opportunities in in in the music industry um and um kind of what would I say fell short of of of uh the the the big huge dreams that I had but um uh when I met David to you know to get the opportunity to to perform with him to perform these classic songs to to um to be able to keep this music alive it's it's a it's a huge blessing huge blessing definitely David how did you find John he tells the story much better than me I like the way he tells the story I think I I was singing at an open mic um contest in nework New Jersey um at a

spot called what was the name of the spot David I forgot the name of the spot I think we lost David we may have lost David I I was I was singing at an open mic contest sorry that's okay David what was the name of the place um uh Key Club the Key Club and and um I was um I was singing um whipper Pill by Baby Face and um after I finished performing David sent um uh big Kevin over um and Kevin brought me over to meet David and he told me that he was um looking for somebody to go out on and do some shows with him David had a uh a solo project out um playing the flute and he was doing his thing with that but you know people always would ask him you know what about the surface songs so he needed somebody to kind of do those songs for him and um he invited me to come along and we've

been we've been going at it ever since that was probably about 2008 maybe wow yeah definitely that is beautiful I love it you know that doesn't happen very often anymore when you find somebody that can fit like perfectly people would literally you know can't believe that he's not the same person sometimes you know so that's that's what's that's a joy for me you but it doesn't happen like that very often I mean there are not a lot of people that get discovered in the club anymore yeah I mean come on that was back in what the the 70s the 80s maybe the 90s and then internet came into play and everybody was like well how many hits you got you know yeah things things are very different things are very different yeah before I mean again we grew up we grew up rehearsing and rehearsing and rehearsing to prepare for a show and rehearsing more and now you know they just kind of sit sit on sit in

the house on the on the phone on the internet and and bow they get discovered it's different it's definitely different but Hey listen I appreciate all all forms of this thing you know definitely things have changed things have change and you know so so for surface I wanted to find out I know that you guys have

upcoming things what can we expect from this amazing group let me say something because what's the name of your show y yeah it it I have two shows I have Yaya diamonds Dreamchasers radio and late that's the one right there that's why I asked you the name of your show is Dreamchasers yes it guess what we we did a uh we did a CD called resurface Where Have You Been is the name of the uh of the CD and also guess one of the songs on there is called Dreamchaser I brought it up yeah oh oh I gotta find it down so talk about what's new what's what's different you know that's one of the things that you can

look for aw we have a CD called Where Have You Been and it's by resurface and that's when uh FEA first came into my existence here and we just made some music together that's beautiful that's beautiful I I absolutely love the fact that you guys have taken the time out of your day to be with us today you know um and I want to make sure that I I put this up so that people can follow you I know that you guys have uh you know your social media and so I want to make sure I put this up here um for you John you're on Instagram John johore surface on IG right and then you have um Mr uh David you are on Facebook yes I am right there David pck Cony on Surface I mean on Facebook on on Facebook and surface thank you guys so much what kind of advice do you give to the groups that

Q: You have a long history with the event, but this is your first year at the helm. How have you prepared?

A: I was fortunate to have worked here as a young professional and then come back on a track to have my current position; and I was very fortunate to have about an 18-month transition with my predecessor Don Smiley, who was a great advisor and continues to be a great advisor. Don gave me some great advice, he said, “You don’t always have to have the right answer, but you should always be asking questions.” I would say I’m asking many, many questions and learning every step of the way.

Q: How has Summerfest evolved over the past five decades?

A: One of the points of difference about what we do here as an independent nonprofit organization, the sponsorship model really allows us to present the best in entertainment across a wide variety of genres and keep our price as accessible as possible. To come to the festival, it’s $28 at the gate to see music from noon to midnight.

Q: How has Milwaukee World Festival affected the strategic vision of Summerfest?

A: It’s something we believe is special and important to the landscape because we have an independent booking team that books all of our stages. We do our best to book as wide a variety as possible and present as much music as possible. That includes local artists, which we are a great showcase for, as well as national headliners.

Q: How do the festival grounds and permanent facilities factor into that success?

A: We feel like it is a point of difference and rare in our space to have a permanent facility just steps away from downtown Milwaukee that is completely devoted to public gathering and music. We are able to offer both the artists and touring teams permanent amenities, permanent stage houses, some of the creature comforts that may not be available when you are performing at other events.

Q: What investments have the organization made in the festival grounds over the years?

A: Over the last 20 years, the organization and its sponsors have put $160 million in capital improvements into the festival park. We’ve done that as a nonprofit pouring our own resources into the festival park as well as many sponsors stepping up and providing capital contributions to support that growth. The other piece that we’ve been able to establish more recently is extensive programming of shows outside of Summerfest.

Q&A: Sarah Pancheri on Leading Milwaukee World Festival and Summerfest
.

Q: In 2023, Henry Maier Festival Park hosted 64 events reaching 1.2 million attendees. What is the impact of Summerfest on Milwaukee?

A: For Milwaukee we generated $160 million through Summerfest; for the state, Summerfest generated $188 million. So, it is significant. When you think about all the concerts that take place at American Family Insurance Amphitheater and BMO Pavilion as well as all the festivals that take place that generated $263 million across the season for Milwaukee and $318 Million for Wisconsin.

Q: How does the festival support the local community?

A: We distribute about 90,000 tickets to our community in various ways and that can mean everything from supporting a specific scholarship program to working with different organizations throughout the year. The brand recognition locally and the civic pride is very high, so those tickets are in demand across the community. Ninety percent of our sponsors have a community tie that is embedded in their partnership.

Q: Inclusion and diversity appear central to the booking strategy. Can you elaborate on that?

A: You can imagine it’s a big task to book all nine days, all 12 hours of nine days across all of our 12 stages. For Summerfest, we are an independent booking team with three full-time staff that grows with lots of friends as we get closer to the festival and things get finalized. The Summerfest event team books Summerfest, while shows at Summerfest venues outside the festival window are booked in conjunction with FPC Live, a Live Nation affiliate.

Interview with Katie Musham: The Vision Behind Co-op Live's Strategic Programming

XS10MAGAZINE: Katie, you've been involved in several significant arena openings, including Wembley and The O2. What makes the opening phase of these buildings so special?

Katie Musham: It's the most thrilling part. Being part of an arena opening is about shaping the future of music tours and the entire industry. It's about creating a landmark that will push the boundaries of what's possible in live entertainment.

XS10MAGAZINE: As the Director of Strategic Programming at Co-op Live, what does your role entail?

Katie Musham: My role involves a lot of strategic positioning and profiling of Co-op Live. I'm constantly in discussions with promoters, agents, and managers, ensuring that our venue is at the forefront of their minds. It's about building relationships and managing a complex schedule that aligns with our vision for the venue.

XS10MAGAZINE: What are some of the key features of Co-op Live that you emphasize to artists and their teams?

Katie Musham: Co-op Live is set to be a groundbreaking venue, designed with the artist's performance in mind. There’s no branding cluttering the space, and it boasts exceptional acoustics treated by Vanguardia. We’ve also rethought the suite level to ensure it offers intimacy, making it not just the largest, but the most personal arena experience.

XS10MAGAZINE: How has the response been from the industry regarding Co-op Live?

Katie Musham: The response has been overwhelmingly positive. Industry professionals recognize the potential of Co-op Live to transform live entertainment in Manchester and beyond. We’ve seen a lot of enthusiasm from agents and promoters, and some are even rearranging tour schedules to include our venue.

XS10MAGAZINE: What are you most looking forward to in the opening lineup?

XS10MAGAZINE: What are your thoughts on Manchester as a city for live music compared to other places around the world?

Katie Musham: Manchester has a vibrant cultural scene and a rich musical heritage, which makes it an exciting place to be. The city is progressive and constantly evolving, which aligns well with our vision for Co-op Live as a forward-thinking venue.

Journalist's Perspective: Tennessee's Live Music Fund A Historic Step for Tennessee's Music Scene

I want to welcome you to Dreamchasers radio with me your host Yaya diamond and I also want to welcome you to late night with Yaya diamond on the doot Network where we're reaching over four million people in Atlanta Georgia I'm so very excited to be here today we have a comedian on the show today he is funny okay had me laughing already I was already laughing see see he's already laughing I mean I okay I don't even know how I'm gonna get through this I don't even know how I want to welcome J to the show thank you so much for joining me I am just so excited to have you here yes hello hello how you doing and everybody out there uh listening in how you doing oh we're doing good we're doing good so jar let me ask you a question you know everybody has a beginning what was yours like oh wow uh so I always wanted to do standup and so uh back in 2005 here in the state of Delaware they had a uh they had had a you know talent show uh you

S

know anyone can sign up regardless of what type of talent you had and so uh good friend of mine Dar me to sign up to do comedy and I'm the type of guy who never wants to go through life to say I would have could have should have I back then my stage name was fatbat and uh and so back then you know I was I was I was you know I was Drinker back then so uh I had some tangay you know they don't even do tangay no more I had some tangay and orange juice I signed up and I won the whole competition and I got to open up for chingi back in the day that that tell you how far back that is oh my gosh oh my gosh you had oh my gosh Tanger that's like Kool-Aid mixed in with a little bit of something something yeah that's it but yeah man did like five minutes and uh and uh won

the whole competition then I was hooked ever since and a couple years later uh gave my Christ name the dream j

r a m stands for Jesus rules everything around I love it I love it I knew it had to you know I knew it had to mean something because I mean you know comedians they got it all over now let me you know there is there so many different things people I think they they don't I think that they believe that your life is extraordinary and that because you're a comedian everything is funny but do you bring plight or light to the situations of a common like you know day that may happen to bring light to the funny part of it all absolutely AB absolutely every day is definitely not peaches and creams just because we make other people laugh uh to be honest with you I think I read somewhere uh statistic wise uh comedians suffer with uh Depression more so than than than

most people uh they take they use the stage for therapy in and of itself and so yeah we take everyday thing every everyday life everyday pain and we take that and we you know twist and turn it to make it funny that's why even the Bible says laughter is good like a medicine because uh you know we're able to feel prescriptions each and every day we hit that stage I tell you what I'll tell you what and you know and and it's so it's it's you know it's so prevalent it's like you think that a comedian would be happy but behind the scenes you're right um they do suffer from a lot more depression and a lot more because they're life in front of people was so funny that they think everybody thinks that you have a funny life behind the scenes you're always laughing and always giggling and always making jokes but that's not the case I life like everyone else absolutely real life happens to comedians too absolutely does yeah I absolutely love it though that you know if I can make fun of myself

now for like 18 years but yet and still I still keep my phone or uh Journal something I can write in because I see there's I see comedy every day and something on my job while I'm driving um you know I see ComEd you know I roll by the gym just today because one of my resolution was I wanted to go you know get back in shape and I roll by the gym just fell out laughing because I said you know I R I literally do go by the gym five days a week I just don't go in oh my gosh those New Year's resolutions they get me boy be like yeah man and by come February it's like right right right do it not one time and if you did it like a whole week it's like oh my body hurts you know exactly exactly but man it's gotta get done though it's gotta get done definitely definitely and I hear that it's a great day absolutely right absolutely right I try to find some type of humor and something each and every day um I keep a I've been doing comedy

you've opened up your own Comedy Club tell me about this how' this come about come on now oh oh yes yes yes

yes I tell you God is Awesome uh so uh a little over well December 29th was the grand opening prior to that uh I teamed up with a wonderful lady shout out to Mama G uh Tropical Delight restaurant here in DOA Delaware and I was putting on comedy shows at different venues and she would always uh cater the food for those comedy shows and uh she you know she has her own Banquet Hall adjacent to her restaurant and so just teamed up we made such a great team uh doing comedy shows and her providing the food so she said you know what hey let's let's take this thing to another level so she gave me one of the greatest opportunities I could ever uh pray for and than for and she opened up her banquet hall to me and said hey it's yours take it over I love when that happens I love when that happens you know people don't realize that you cannot do

anything by yourself like absolutely need other people you just I'm gonna just do this by my no you can't can't just do this by

yourself that's right can't do it you can't do it you cannot do it there's a reason why the Lord and I ain't getting up here to preach because God knows but there's a reason why the Lord sent the disciples out by twos because he knew uh they you know when one fall the other one gonna pick the other one up you cannot get through this life without the help of someone everybody's gonna need a brother or sister here and there oh yeah oh yeah you cannot you cannot you cannot and I have learned that in in so many different ways and so many different situations you know and you do have a tour and shows and coming up and all this other good stuff you have your website I'm going to go ahead and put that up on the uh screen really quick so people can actually go there it's jemand entertainment.com yes oh my gosh so I mean with everything that's

going on and being a comedian I am not funny at all I'm silly there's a difference there is a difference being silly and being a comedian you can't be getting up there being silly you gotta be comedian so if you're silly don't try

it you're gonna get booed off the stage and people gonna throw stuff at you yeah because usually when you're silly uh most most people who are silly really don't have content and when you're going to do uh whenever you're going to do stand up you definitely should have content you should have subject matters you should have things that are relatable current events uh things that uh people can really relate to and can tap into but you know just being silly getting up there and you know acting like a clown that's exactly whether it it be you know you'll just be a clown but uh but silly has its place here and there but at the end of the day you got to have some content you got to have some substance when you're on that stage oh definitely I can introduce

you though like what's up guys I got you coming up bye there you go that's it book you a book I'm done it's been such a pleasure having you on the show and you know what it's

wonderful to see that you've teamed up and you're collaborating with food and comedy because that goes hand in hand and you do have a lot of different comedians coming through as well right is clean comedy is it family friendly absolutely so just uh April 27th we have again the national National comedian Mr Gerald Kelly and his sons he has a 16y old son and a 10y old son they're on tour with him right now as we speak and they will be here in DOA Delaware April 27th and that is the one and only time you can go it's a rare time where you can go to a comedy show and bring your kid or your you know your young one 10 years older and up you can bring them to the comedy show and we can and we'll rock out so that's very rare that is wonderful though because you w to

have you want to bring your children you know you want them to have fun too exactly right having a night out with your children Comedy Club you know just don't sit on the front front row I can't let get to the bar and they can't get to the bar either because you know we we gota be careful with that too yes definely you gotta have food okay yeah you gotta have food though gotta have food yes but thank you so much Jim for being on the show I appreciate it and you know anytime that you have anything else that you want to say or introduce or you have you going on tour or whatever please please please stop by and guys it's www Dreamland entertainment.com and that way you guys can find out what's going on and all about what Mr Dream is doing on you know on tour and also at his own establishment I am that's what I'm talking about I'm loving it I'm loving it thank you so much for tuning in guys and don't forget to Dear to be different until next time guys bye [Music] peace

Empowering Young Girls Through Mentorship and the Arts

In this blog post, we explore Kamika Lynette's journey of mentorship and empowerment for young girls

Kamika Lynette's Journey

My journey has been one of growth, learning, and empowerment. It all started when I was a shy young girl, looking for guidance and support. I was fortunate to have mentors who believed in me and saw my potential, guiding me through the challenges of adolescence and helping me find my voice.

As I grew older, I realized the impact that mentorship had on my life I understood the value of having someone to look up to, someone who believed in me even when I doubted myself. This realization inspired me to become a mentor myself, to pay forward the guidance and support that was given to me.

With this passion for mentoring, I founded the Girls with Pearls organization. Girls with Pearls aims to empower young girls, helping them build confidence, develop skills, and reach their full potential. Through workshops, mentorship programs, and community events, we create a supportive environment where girls can thrive and grow.

One of the highlights of Girls with Pearls is our annual Gala event This event is a celebration of girlhood, where participants showcase their talents in dance, modeling, and etiquette. It is a platform for girls to express themselves creatively, gain confidence, and connect with others who share their passions.

My journey has led me to write a book titled "Girls with Pearls: A Story of Mentorship." In this book, I share my personal story, reflecting on the impact of mentorship on my life and the lives of the girls I have mentored. Through this narrative, I hope to inspire others to believe in the power of mentorship and the potential it has to transform lives.

Looking to the future, I am determined to expand the reach of Girls with Pearls beyond Delaware. My goal is to inspire and empower girls across the nation, spreading the message of mentorship and the importance of supporting one another I also recognize the need for mentorship for boys and am considering a future project, Guys with Ties, to extend our impact to young men as well.

Through my work with Girls with Pearls and my upcoming book, I am dedicated to creating a world where every young person has the support and guidance they need to succeed. I believe that by investing in our youth and providing them with mentorship and opportunities, we can build a brighter future for all.
