Stephen Llyod A Connecticut native, Stephen pursued a career in architecture. He is now focusing on painting in acrylic and watercolor. Now a resident of Vermont, he is a trustee of Brattleboro West Arts and of the Brattleboro Museum and Art Center. He has exhibited throughout the Northeast in group and solo exhibitions. His work is in private collections in Maine, Vermont, Connecticut, Switzerland and Sweden. Lloyd draws his inspirations for this body of work from nature’s time and temperament. Some pieces are his interpretations of particular places and time-a sunset near Provincetown, or Utah in August- while others are meant to showcase nature’s emotional states, such as weather. Lloyd’s views of the natural world from edge points such as a shoreline or outer paths of a forest are portrayed through the structure and lines of geometry from his earlier career as an architect.

Sarah Slavick After receiving her BA in studio art from Wesleyan University, Slavick went on to earn her MFA from Pratt Institute and receive several grants from the likes of the Massachusetts Cultural Countcil and the Artist Resource Trust Fund. Her work has been featured in group shows in Massachusetts, Virginia, Florida, and Hong Kong. Slavick’s paintings are abstracted interiors of the body at a cellular level. Cells represent regeneration, connection, disease and ultimately recovery. While her work is abstract, she is continuously referencing nature both visually and conceptually. Her current body of work, the Water series is inspired by climate change; an ever pressing concern, rising seas, water scarcity, extreme weather patterns becoming the norm and ocean pollution, she finds the vast expanses of water to be a great source of inspiration. The small singular elements of the multi-paneled pieces are meant to exist in equal strength to the whole. In effect, nothing is disconnected from the whole. The individual cannot exist without the support of the whole; but, nevertheless, it remains distinctly unique. The singular elements in all of these works ultimately change in form and substance by building into something greater than themselves. A transmutation occurs from part to the whole.
