Island of natural spectacles: Its fantastic waterfalls, majestic volcanoes, huge glaciers and bubbling geysers have made Iceland famous worldwide. As a vacation destination for biking vacations, however, the country is still exotic and unknown. Yet every nature lover should have seen the fascinating island once in his life, and in the bike saddle the breathtaking landscape can be experienced particularly intensively. Special tour operators have long been offering bike tours around the exciting island. Who loves the special kick, can book Heli Biken and be flown on volcanoes, in order to rush from there on legendary Lava Trails in the valley. Relax from strenuous tours in the hot springs of the country.
General situation
Iceland has by far the fewest new corona infections in Europe. This is due to smart health policies that rely on testing, tracking and a Corona app. Quarantine-free entry is also planned for tourists who have not yet been vaccinated. Corona testing, of course, remains mandatory. Currently, entry involves a 5-day quarantine plus PCR testing.
Entry
Registration form and negative PCR test (max 72 h old on arrival). All travelers must also have a PCR test done upon entry. If pre-registered, this costs approximately 65 CHF/60 EUR. Currently, travelers must then go into quarantine for five days before undergoing another PCR test. However, the list of accommodations that accept guests in quarantine is long and includes over 400 accommodations throughout the island. However, after receiving the negative result on the second PCR test, the quarantine may then be terminated and the safe vacation can begin. Those who can prove with a PCR test or antibody test that they have already recovered from COVID-19 infection are exempt from quarantine. Anyone who can prove with a valid vaccination certificate (or entry in the international vaccination certificate) that they have received a full vaccination with an approved vaccine against COVID-19 is also quarantine exempt.
Biking in Iceland
Whether touring bike or gravel bike tours around the island or thrills on the guided MTB adventure Lava Trails: Iceland offers the cyclist almost countless opportunities to experience the magnificent nature up close, and so it is becoming increasingly popular to discover Iceland intensively on the bike saddle. With the "Skálafell Bike Park" (30 min from Reykjavik) there is also a bike park with a lift on the legendary island of the elves, which invites you to downhill.
Tours
Iceland offers countless enchanting trails among its many natural wonders. But it is not easy to find the hidden trails, GPS tracks are scarce. Mountain bikers are advised to book tours with a provider recommended by the tourist office, such as Icebike Adventures (also Heli Biking).
