Developing great people through

S P O R T

RGS SPORT Sport has always formed a key piece of the fabric of school life at Reigate Grammar School. Sport provides the opportunity to challenge students in ways other strands of school life do not and we believe it is a unique way of developing good people. Health, fitness and wellbeing are our first priority. Competitive sport is built upon this foundation.

PURPOSE

ENGAGEMENT

To ensure sport has a meaningful and memorable effect on every student.

To ignite a life-long passion for sport and/or physical activity in every student.

We use a multi-sport approach to develop a love of sport and physical activity that engages each and every student.

We will be innovative and test new ways to support students, ensuring we create an environment where every student finds a sporting or active passion.

OUR MISSION OPPORTUNITY PERFORMANCE LEARNER -CENTRED

ENJOYMENT

To create opportunities to sample and stretch all students in sport.

To enable all students to realise their potential.

To put the student first.

To provide an unrelenting focus on positive experiences for all.

Students will be able to choose pathways suited to them, be that recreational sport or competition at the highest level.

Performance is what matters. The non-linear and unpredictable nature of development means we must provide a programme for each student to support their progress and to give them the best possible chance to achieve their sporting ambitions.

We apply the evidence about what we understand about child development through sport. We will provide opportunities to engage everyone through a diverse, challenging, multi-sport experience across all abilities. This applies whether a student is an aspiring Olympian or a recreational athlete.

We must strengthen the connections between sport, physical activity, health and wellbeing to ensure students feel the benefits of an active life.

PERFORMANCE SPORT High-Performance Hub The High-Performance Hub supports students in achieving their potential. The Hub uses a sporting focus with activities, workshops and presentations designed to support students within the wider context of the school as a High-Performance Learning Centre. The Sport Scholarship programme supports students who have been identified as having high sporting potential. These students are likely to attend many of the events and activities in the Hub. However, being a scholar includes a more managed process where students will be mentored and supported on an individual basis to meet their sporting targets. At the appropriate time in a sports scholar’s development, the programme will include: A scholarship mentor to help the scholar maintain balance and manage the pressures of academic, social and sporting life A personal strength and conditioning programme to support performance Seminars delivered by industry specialists to prepare scholars for the demands of elite sport Elite pathway support Injury rehabilitation support and guidance from physiotherapists All pupils, including scholars, are a part of our long-term athlete development programme which aims at maximising enjoyment, sporting potential and transferable benefits from sport into other areas of life both as a child and in preparation for adult life. NEW RGS SPORTS CENTRE We are delighted to announce that we have submitted a planning application to Reigate and Banstead Borough Council for the development of a new Reigate Grammar School Sports Centre on our Broadfield site. There is an educational need for these new facilities at RGS, together with an aspiration to create a new, high-quality sports centre that will allow the school to expand its commitment to a healthy sports and activity based curriculum. The building will deliver the educational benefits of an on-site sports and PE provision for 1,100 senior school students. The sports hall will be a full sized six-court multi-functional space offering a wide range of indoor sports and activities that will support the wellbeing and development of our students as well as members of the community.

In addition to transforming the sport provision for students at the school, these high-quality sports facilities will be made available to parents and neighbours through ClubRGS with access to a fully equipped gym, fitness suite and yoga studio with evening and weekend classes for members outside of school hours. Our current facilities fall short of those offered by all the other Reigate schools and this project aims to remedy this deficiency. This facility will create so many opportunities for young people, families and adults in Reigate. It will benefit thousands of local primary school children, members of local sports teams and community groups and will be used by the wider community throughout the year.
