HISCOX ARE PROUD SPONSORS OF THE REIGATE CHARITY 7S
18626 02/18
Richard Watson Chief Underwriting Officer (RGS 1976-1981) As a rugby fan I am delighted that Hiscox have become principal sponsors of the Reigate Charity 7s and will be supporting the rugby stars of the future.
Here at Hiscox we pride ourselves in being experts in our field and we’re acutely aware that the world of business requires team players in order to be successful. The core values of rugby; respect, teamwork, discipline, enjoyment and sportmanship that will be demonstrated here at Hartswood today, will stand these young people in good stead whatever career path they choose. We are very happy to be supporting this tournament and in particular the Changing Lives bursary campaign which addresses the issue of social mobililty in and around the local area. The Changing Lives campaign provides first class educational opportunities to children whose potential far outweighs their financial means. Hiscox are committed to making a change for the good and this social mobility campaign is a cause that we feel will make a difference in the world. Enjoy the tournament and I’m sure that you will be impressed with the standard of rugby on show from some potential future rugby stars! www.hiscoxgroup.com

Welcome back to RGS Hartswood for this year’s Reigate Charity 7s. This year we are delighted to welcome a few new entrants to the tournament; Bryanston School, Worth, Ardingly and Emanuel all of which have waited patiently on the reserve list in previous years.
I am delighted we are able to host the Reigate Charity 7s tournament again at RGS Hartswood and hope for better weather than we had last year! We should all enjoy a great day of rugby with friends and partner schools whilst raising money for a superb cause, the RGS Changing Lives Bursary Campaign.
Our enormous thanks go to Hiscox who have partnered with us to become the Principal Sponsor for the 2018 tournament. Hiscox are one of the leading Insurance specialists in the UK offering a wide range of services from home insurance through to observational satellites! Our thanks also go to our new ‘Official Medical Partner’ Return2Play that will be on hand today for all medical needs. They are also doing great work in the important field of concussion management and are a great team, thank you for your support. We’d also like to thank Kukri Sports for their continued advocacy, Harwoods and to all of our commercial partners that have supported the Reigate Charity 7s this year. We are delighted to welcome back former RGS pupil Max Coyle today as one of our special guests. Max left RGS last year and is currently playing for Harlequins on a full time professional contract. It will be fascinating to hear how he has coped with the transition from pupil to full time sportsman and what he is doing with all his spare time! Thank you to our superb grounds team (led by Nick Hobbs) who have prepared the pitches and surrounding facilities to ensure that Hartswood is looking splendid today. Finally, thank you all the staff and volunteers that have given up their precious time to ensure that today runs as smoothly as previous years. Jonny Hylton Tournament Director
I am extremely grateful to all of our sponsors, not least our principal sponsor, Hiscox who, in partnership with the RGS Foundation and plethora of volunteers, have made the event possible. RGS Hartswood is looking splendid today and I am sure that the level of rugby will live up to these magnificent surroundings. Thank you to our dedicated grounds team for all your hard work. A day like today brings together so many of the best features of today’s young people – we celebrate their talent, team work and dedication. Winning is important but not at all costs and today we will see that determination to succeed, alongside traditional sporting values which are so important to help prepare a young person in later life. New entrants to the RGS Rugby programme this year have made a fantastic impact, showing huge appetite and commitment to the game. Most excitingly, once again, was the strength in depth with RGS being able to field A-D teams in competitive fixtures. Thank you to all staff, students and volunteers who have committed to supporting us today and wish every team the best of luck for the tournament. Shaun Fenton Headmaster

Teams found to not adhere to these rules risk disqualification on grounds a player safety.

If you require immediate medical assistance, please contact the on-call doctor on 07414 133151. Return2Play already provides sports medicine services to a number of attending schools. If you would like to find out more about the services they offer please speak to members of their team in the Return2Play coaches marquee.

MAX COYLE SPECIAL GUEST HARLEQUINS RFC We are delighted to welcome back former RGS star Max Coyle to RGS Hartswood here today for the Reigate Charity 7s. Max joined RGS from Hawthorns in 2012 and went on to be a key member of the victorious side that went through the school and won the Rosslyn Park 7s and the Natwest Plate Final at Sixways Stadium last year. Max has been closely monitored and linked with the Harlequins Academy for the last few years and it was fantastic to see him awarded a full time contract with Harlequins where he has been learning his trade for the last 6 months. Max is fully aware of the calibre of this tournament and actually collected the Player of the Tournament trophy in 2016 when the RGS 1st team were beaten by a strong Harrow side in the Main Final. It will be fascinating to hear how Max is getting on at Quins this season, how he has coped with the transition from RGS student to professional rugby player and what he thinks the next few years holds for him. Max appeared in his first senior appearance for Harlequins in the victory against Scarlets in the Anglo Welsh Cup in January, appearing from the bench and we are all confident that there will be many more to follow in the ensuing months/ years.
CHARITY INFORMATION
The RGS Foundation’s
Changing Lives campaign Reigate Grammar School was founded through the generosity and philanthropic support of Henry Smith in 1675. Throughout its long history the School has faced many challenges, particularly financial, yet shown formidable strength of character and resilience throughout. The 1675 Bursary Fund aims to transform lives by giving an opportunity to those whose potential is far greater than their financial means. Inspired by the philosophy of our founders, we recognise that such generosity enriches our School, enhances academic standards, social mobility, and widens educational opportunity. rgs.foundation
REIGATE CHARITY 7s 2017 On Sunday 5 March 2017 over 40 schools descended on RGS Hartswood for the established annual Reigate Charity 7s. Despite some of the worst rugby conditions you could possibly imagine for sevens, the overall standard of rugby was magnificent. In the boys Cup Final, Epsom College faced previous winners Tonbridge in a tense and exciting game and it was the black and white of Tonbridge that showed their experience and class to come out on top with an attritional 12-7 victory. Meanwhile in the Plate, Caterham dispatched a combative Wallington side beating them 17-12. In the Girls’ tournament, Cup Final newcomers Wellington swept aside Wallington with a powerful 17-0 display and it was Christ’s Hospital who took home the Plate Trophy after a comprehensive 25-0 victory against King Henry VIII. With heavy downpours throughout the day, our thanks go to all of our Hartswood ground staff and volunteers who made the day pass without any hitches.
