SPORTS DAY FOREWORD
from RGS House Sports Day
by RGS
It has been another hugely successful year for RGS Sport. Team Reigate continues to compete for national honours across a range of sporting activities. We are very proud of the enormous number of students who represent the school, they have been a credit to RGS and continue to successfully balance their academic studies with all that is on offer beyond the classroom. This year we have launched our Vision for Sport, focusing on developing Great People through Sport. Thank you to the hundreds of people who came to our launch events and who have read our supporting material. It is important for us to share this vision as widely as possible for our whole community to be able to support us in our journey to developing all our students.
Sport at RGS is all about community. Indeed, we want all pupils to work in an environment where they strive to be part of something bigger than themselves, and today is a great opportunity for all students to come together and enjoy a celebration of summer sport, in a meaningful and memorable way.
Academic staff work incredibly hard to give our students the confidence to continue with their extra-curricular passions throughout an intense examination period. We hope that Sports day is a fun and inclusive conclusion to a busy exam week. Today, our athletes and sports people will show some of their talents as well as the values and behaviours we associate with being part of Team Reigate.
This has been equally evident in all sport throughout the term and we are proud to say that this has underpinned great success. This has been a year of great progression for many students in an individual, team and community capacity. To highlight just a few of these, 27 of our athletes broke their personal bests during district competition this summer, while our Boys and Girls 1st XI cricket teams are enjoying their best seasons in recent years and are proving they are in the top tier of cricket in the region. The Junior Girls went on their first ever Jersey cricket tour over Easter after the first full winter nets training block for the girls’ teams. We are striving to promote equality of opportunity in all areas of school sport despite traditional barriers being in place. Of course, athletics is one of the sports that has always seen our whole school community compete side by side and Sports Day is the annual highlight of this.
With too many individual successes to mention, please look out for the weekly sport update in the Headmaster’s Bulletin. It is a great strength of our sporting community that we have so many talented students across a wide range of sports and activities, and much of their successes are also down to the parents whose support for their children and our sporting programme is a key factor in enabling us to do what we do.
We hope you enjoy the day.
