RGS SUMMER FESTIVAL

FROM THE HEADMASTER

W

elcome to the RGS Summer Festival for 2018, which follows yet another jam-packed year full of a variety of activities on offer to all our students, showcasing their many talents. These include over 30 musical concerts during the year, drama productions every term and weekly activities in sport, art, the Combined Cadet Force and the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. In the Summer Term, after the exams, Activities Week is a chance for the students to enjoy themselves and have fun learning new skills, honing those they already have and putting them into practice on numerous expeditions and activities. Amongst other events, this year will see them visiting Bodiam Castle, building and racing carts in the Pram Race, competing in House Drama, performing in a puppet show which will tour local primary schools, and acting in our top quality drama production, Dick Whittington.

As always, I very much hope you will be able to join us for as many of these activities as possible, to support your children and to enjoy the various events going on. The experiences that children have outside of the classroom are so important. Whether that be on trips to far flung places or closer to home, competing on the sports field, being creative in the art studio, performing in concerts or other opportunities – these are the occasions where character is revealed and developed, and where friendships are strengthened.

Please do come and see how we do this best. Of course, none of this could happen without the time, energy and dedication of the staff at RGS; without their support and, obviously, without the drive of the children themselves. We have had yet another amazing year here at RGS and I think everyone is looking forward to a wellearned rest. With my very best wishes and thanks, Shaun Fenton Headmaster

Tug of War

Junior Quiz

This year’s Jersey cricket tour sees 26 U13 players set off for the largest Channel Island. Both U13A and U13B teams have four fixtures, taking on opposition from Victoria College and De La Salle, as well as short and long matches against the Jersey island side. It is an opportunity to work on their skills, widen their horizons and develop their friendships. The tourists will also enjoy a water park and ten-pin bowling, amongst other activities.

The Tug of War is now an annual tradition at RGS. It is one of the House competitions that generates passion and a whole hill of noise! Which House will have the best technique? Which will rely on brute force? Past performance suggests that the passion of the cheering supporters in the crowd can make a huge difference.

Neither University Challenge nor Mastermind can match the excitement of the House Quiz on the last day of term. The whole school will be packed into the Sports Hall, willing their chosen quiz teams to do their House proud. The wide ranging and challenging questions typically produce a nail biting finish and it may go down to the final round. Fingers on your buzzers!
