Clubs Booklet

Introduction

We hope this booklet gives you insight into the breadth of exciting clubs on offer at RGS Prep.

Please note:

Clubs

Multi-Sports

Club

An opportunity to develop skills in a range of sports including, dodgeball, table tennis, basketball and ultimate frisbee!

Origami Club

Boys learn how to create origami, the Japanese art of paper folding, whilst socialising with friends. At the end of each session they can take their paper creations home.

Gardening Club

An opportunity for boys to spend some calm, relaxed time undertaking a range of seasonal gardening activities.

Pre-Prep boys take part in the annual Guildford in Bloom competition to showcase their gardening skills.

String Ensemble

For string players ready to play in an ensemble. Boys prepare pieces for upcoming events and concerts with guidance from their music teachers.

Beyblade Club

A club that encourages social interaction and the chance for boys to showcase their Beyblade spinning skills.

Kapla Club

A tactile club where the boys can create whatever their imaginations call for. This activity encourages the boys to develop their fine motor skills though hands-on play.

Quizmaster Club

For students who enjoy showcasing their general knowledge. Teams compete to be crowned the Quizmaster Champion.

Cricket Club

An opportunity for pupils to develop their cricket skills further through drills and matches.

STEM Club

Pupils use problem-solving and investigative skills to work towards earning a CREST Award. CREST is a British Science Association’s scheme for STEM project work that inspires young people to think and behave like scientists and engineers.

Chess Club

For Pre-Prep boys, the club is a perfect introduction to chess.

For pupils in Year 3-6 the club involves games with great players of all ages, and the chance to play in fixtures and tournaments.

Model Club

A DT workshop in which pupils design and create models and minatures. There is also time to play with their creations, and collaborate with each other discussing tactics and painting techniques.

Playball Club

An opportunity to engage in various ball games designed to develop coordination and teamwork skills. Through structured activities, pupils build confidence, all while having fun in an active, supportive setting.

Rock Band

Boys play and rehearse for upcoming events and concerts with guidance from their music teachers.

Badminton Club

Offers pupils the chance to play individual games and to practise their skills playing doubles. This club develops both physical fitness and the communication skills needed to work together with a partner.

Performance Club

For boys with a passion for acting and performing, Head of Drama, Mrs Lanson de Breuille, prepares boys for an annual performance for parents, students and staff.

Judo Club

Judo is for children of all sizes and abilities, helping to improve fitness, coordination and confidence. Boys have the opportunity to be graded and take part in competitions, however they can take part just to train, learn some self-defence and socialise.

Mindfulness Club

A relaxing session that reduces anxiety and stress through mindfulness colouring and leaves pupils with a wonderful piece of artwork.

Tennis Club

Tennis Club provides an active setting for pupils to learn and practise tennis, focusing on improving technique, coordination and fitness. Pupils develop sportsmanship though friendly competion and teamwork.

LEGO Club

LEGO club offers a creative space for boys to use LEGO bricks to build imaginative structures. This activity helps pupils develop problemsolving skills, spatial awareness and fine motor skills.

Crafting Club

An opportunity to get creative using a variety of different materials and techniques, including sewing, painting and upcycling.

Business Club

Inspiring our young entrepreneurs, Business Club challenges creativity and develops business skills. Projects include successfully creating, marketing and selling a product.

Chorister Theory

Appointed choristers, with the instruction of Master of the Choristers, Katherine Dienes-Williams, practise in Guildford Cathedral or the Gieve Room at RGS Prep.

Construction Club

Using a variety of construction toys and craft materials, pupils build and create models both in teams and individually.

Basketball Club

Provides an energetic space for boys to practise their basketball skills, focusing on dribbling, shooting and working as a team. Pupils improve coordination, fitness and strategy in a fun, supportive environment.

Biathlon, Triathlon & Cross Country Club

Offers the opportunity for pupils to refine their cardiovascular endurance and transitions between disciplines. As well as health benefits, the boys learn key skills that will keep them safe when riding a bike.

Futsal Club

A lively club where boys sharpen their football skills. Pupils focus on ball control, dribbling tricks to beat an opponent and decision making at speed, all while improving fitness and enjoying the excitement of the game.

ComputerXplorers Club

This club offers the opportunity to take part in a range of tailored computer projects. Projects include animation, coding robots, creating digital comic books and making video games.

M:Tech Club

M:Tech is an extracurricular music technology course for children aged 7-13. They teach the fundamentals of music composition theory, with young learners composing soundtracks to fun and engaging multimedia projects.

Football Club

Football club caters to all levels and abilities. It builds foundation skills for younger pupils and develops older pupils’ skills through focused sessions, challenges & matches.

Boys devlop their ping-pong skills, honing reflexes and handeye coordination. Pupils engage in matches in a friendly, encouraging environment.

Table Tennis Club

Card Club

Pupils can play and learn new card games with friends, all whilst developing socialisation, memory and cognitive skills.

LAMDA

Speech and Drama is an exciting activity to help build confidence, performance and presentation skills. Lessons are taught in small groups through a number of drama activities, including word games, poetry, improvisation and acting.

Dodgeball Club

Growing in popularity, dodgeball is a fast-paced and enjoyable game that promotes better coordination, movement, balance, spatial awareness and teamwork.

Touch Typing Club

Pupils enjoy developing their speed and accuracy and putting their touch typing skills to the test through timed activities.

Art Scholars’ Club

Pupils work on a variety of exciting projects with lots of different materials. This club seeks to enhance the artistic skills of those who have shown a particular interest and affinity for art.

Coding & Catch Up

Boys can continue to work on their existing computing projects, as well as different projects away from the curriculum to further their skills.

Speedy Runners Club

This high energy, fun packed club is designed to get children active in an enjoyable and exciting environment. Speedy Runners is a fast paced, fitness club primarily focused on great running technique whilst not missing out on the other fundamental movements children should be learning at all ages.

Fitness Club

Pupils take part in weekly body circuit training. Boys who thrive in this club have determination and the ability to push themselves whilst working in a high intensity environment.

Orchestra

For those who are ready to play in a large orchestra. Sessions are run both in sectionals and as a full orchestra. There are plenty of performance opportunities at events throughout the year.
