The RGS Today Friday 24 April 2020 Issue 438
General Reminders Registration: Please continue to register twice a day with your Tutors, as outlined below. If you fail to register, staff have to follow up every single absence with your Tutor, subject teachers and, if necessary, your parents. So please save a lot of people’s valuable time and effort by registering as requested: it is very much appreciated and it is a legal requirement. Expanding Horizons: Please could all members of the Upper Sixth Form respond to Mr Gough’s email (sent on Thursday afternoon) outlining the opportunities provided by the Expanding Horizons programme which takes place during Weeks 3 – 5 of this term. The deadline for responses is today at 4.00pm, even if it is to say ‘no’ to everything on offer. The link for replies is in Mr Gough’s email. If you have any questions, please use the Teams chat on the Upper Sixth Form Class 2020 so that everyone can see the answers. Remote Chess Club: Mr Foster and Mr Jessett are excited to announce the remote introduction of Chess Club. It will be done through Chess.com and will be a weekly arena blitz tournament taking place from 1.10pm to 1.40pm every Friday lunchtime. This will allow you to play several 3|2 blitz games online against other RGS students within a 30-minute period. All participants will be in a Microsoft Team (more info below) as well as a closed Chess.com group in which Mr Foster and Mr Jessett will be administrators. If you are interested, there are two things to do: 1. Students should join the Chess Club Teams site by using the code sw3ipsm under the Join a Team option. 2. Parents should complete the online form here by Friday at 9.15am so that we can add their son to the closed group on Chess.com. (Note that their son must already have a Chess.com account, which is free to create but must be supervised by a parent or guardian, if younger than 13.) We are excited to provide you all with the opportunity to continue playing chess against each other and hope this will give many of you some chess to look forward to each week. We certainly look forward to it! RGS Timecapsule Needs You! An email from Ms McClean will arrive in your email inboxes this morning giving you some ideas, and instructions, to film this over this weekend. The topic is HOME LIFE. To upload your films to the Timecapsule Team you will need the code given in the email. Join in and have some creative and worthwhile fun (NCM). From the Senior Prefects: A reminder to all students and staff to take part in the Senior Prefect Challenge, which is this week to film yourself doing a trickshot. Make them as creative, imaginative and impressive as you can! Please email your clips to Christian Moody: 8640@rgsg.co.uk by 8.00pm on Saturday for a chance to have your shot in next week's RGS Last Week. Please wear PE kit if you would like your shot to go onto the RGS Social Media channels. Good luck and we look forward to seeing your efforts!
