NICOLAY FIELD The Adrian College baseball team has the privilege of playing in one of the finest Division III facilities in the country. Nicolay Field was dedicated in 2008 and the Bulldogs just completed their seventh season at the ballpark. They also had the opportunity to host the 2009 NCAA Mideast Regional and the inaugural 2012 MIAA Tournament. Nicolay Field is named in honor of Bud and Betty Nicolay, whose generous contributions helped build the estimated $1 million project. The stadium ground-breaking ceremony took place in September 2007 and special guest speaker Ernie Harwell, Hall of Fame baseball broadcaster Bud and Betty Nicolay with the Detroit Tigers, delivered the keynote address about what a great thing was being done for future generations of baseball players at Adrian College. The Bulldogs had been playing baseball at Riverside Park in Adrian for nearly 60 years before the construction of Nicolay Field. Bud Nicolay is the retired president of Kar Nut Products Company, Inc. The company was started in the 1930’s when its founders roasted peanuts for the fans at Tiger Stadium in downtown Detroit. In 1971, Bud began his long service as a member of the Adrian College Board of Trustees, representing the Detroit Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. In 1980, Bud was elected as a Trustee-At-Large. In 1991, Bud was awarded an honorary doctorate in recognition of his steadfast support. President Dr. Jeffrey Docking Nicolay Field has state-of-the-art amenities presents the Nicolay’s with a plaque including a field completely covered in field turf in honor of their service to Adrian by ProGrass, an inning-by-inning scoreboard, an College underground drainage system, professional baseball caliber dugouts, bullpens and batting cages. The facility also has grandstand chair-back seating on top of the dugouts for a capacity of 300, a heated press box facility for media and broadcasters, lighting for night games, locker rooms, a training room, restrooms and a concession stand. The press box is dedicated in the honor of Frank and Shirley Dick, longtime supporters of Adrian College. Nicolay Field is located on the College campus near the Multi-Sport Performance Stadium. The stadium can be accessed via Stratford Avenue off of West Maumee Street.

HEAD COACH Craig Rainey

23rd Season Adrian College (1988) 517-264-3977 crainey@adrian.edu 10 Conf. Championships 4 Conf. Tourney Titles 10 NCAA Appearances Craig Rainey embarks on his 23rd season guiding the highly successful Adrian College baseball program, which is the 16th-winningest school this decade (163-61, .728) in the NCAA Division III ranks. The Bulldogs have strung together eight straight NCAA tournament appearances and a record of 265-100 (.726) during the last eight years. During this time, Adrian has won seven MIAA regular season titles and the first four MIAA Tournament titles. Rainey has guided the program to eight straight 30-win seasons including a school-record 37 wins in 2012. The Bulldogs have won or shared nine of the last 11 MIAA championships. Adrian finished the 2015 season with a 33-12 record and were 23-5 in the MIAA which won the MIAA regular season championship. The Bulldogs once again took home the MIAA tournament as well defeating three straight opponents on the way to clinching another berth in the NCAA Division III Baseball Championship. In 2014, Adrian finished the season with a 33-15 record and was 21-7 in the MIAA to capture the regular season crown. It would go on to win the MIAA tournament in convincing fashion, winning three straight games to clinch a berth in the NCAA tournament. In 2013, Adrian finished the season with a 32-15 record and was 20-8 in the MIAA which was good enough for a share of the regular season crown. The Bulldogs were ranked 13th nationally in the preseason D3Baseball.com poll. The team had to go on the road for the MIAA Tournament at Hope and came away with a 3-2 win in 10 innings over Trine sending them to the Central Regional in Rock

Island, Illinois. Adrian defeated Wartburg 5-4 in 12 innings in its first game before dropping the next two. Dan Heatherly was named MIAA Position Player of the Year and Heatherly along with Anthony Sergi and Sam Fischer were named AllMideast Region by D3Baseball.com. In 2012, Adrian compiled a record of 37-10 and was ranked 26th in the preseason. The Bulldogs had a strong spring trip and ascended to #11 in the polls. They finished the season ranked 12th in NCAA D-III. Adrian advanced to the NCAA Mideast Regional held at Marietta and won twice over Wooster and La Roche before bowing to the eventual national champion host Pioneers. In 2011, Adrian captured its third straight MIAA title under Rainey. The Bulldogs compiled an overall record of 31-11 and were 24-4 in conference games. The team advanced to the Mideast Regional in Marietta, Ohio, and dropped a pair of heartbreaking one-run games in the ninth inning each time. Brian Bilius was named MIAA Position Player of the Year and a Third Team All-American at third base. David Partyka was named MIAA Pitcher of the Year. Four other players were named First Team All-MIAA. Bilius and Partyka were also named AllRegion as well as Ryan Domschot. The 2008 squad, which went 36-13 overall and finished No. 6 in the national rankings, became the first MIAA team to reach NCAA D-III World Series. All told, Rainey has coached six Bulldogs who have earned nine AllAmerica citations, 17 MIAA players and pitchers of the year. He has produced 45 all-region performers and 75 All-MIAA First Team selections.
