2009-10 Season Preview After coming off of an above .500 season in 2008-9, the ACHA Bulldogs are looking to upgrade the team this season. To do that they have put a number of new faces in the line-up that will help change the culture of the team. These new faces will accompany the solid group of upperclassmen that anchor this year’s squad. Becoming national contenders is the goal of this team and they have put their individual strengths and the efforts of each player together to work toward that goal. The veteran core that returns includes captain Jared Semple who has held this post since the inaugural team in 2007-08. Semple has captured the teams scoring crown the past two seasons, and he has made two consecutive appearances in the Division I ACHA All-Star Game. Skating alongside Semple will be second-year captain Mike Yakamovich and senior defenseman Tim Carlson. The duo of Carlson and Jim Scullion will form the eldest of the “D” corps while newcomers Andrew Amodeo, Chris Dixon, Des Cowan, and Jack Goodell will add size and depth. Up front, Tom Ciaverilla will enter the line-up in full speed and should be a key to the offense. CSHL newcomers Spencer Jordan and Kevin Sunde, will add speed and grit along with some scoring to stabilize the front attack. Joey Coffin and Spencer Bonomo are also newcomers that bring size, speed and a scoring punch that
2008-09 Season Recap The Adrian College ACHA Division I hockey team ended the 2008-09 season with an overall record of 19-18. Highlights of the season included a trip to Arizona where the Bulldogs faced Arizona State University, and the Univeristy of Arizona. Adrian was victorious against the Sun Devils, winning by the final score of 5-2. They split a pair of games against the Wildcats. AC won the first contest 5-2, but fell in the rematch, 5-3. The Bulldogs also found success at the 6th Annual ACHA Showcase Tournament. The tournament was played in early October and featured such teams as Penn State, Stony Brook, and Rutgers. Adrian was defeated by Penn State on day one of the tournament, but they came back to defeat both Stony Brook (7-5) and Rutgers (6-1) to finish the weekend with a 2-1 record. Other quality wins include beating Michigan State (5-4), Villanova (7-1), Iowa State (4-1), and Eastern Michigan (4-2).

will help bolster the tallies in the forward mix. Veteran sophomores Justen Mitchell, Jeff LeRoy along with junior Chad Bonmon will help to complete the attack up front. Goaltending is a position that is spread through the pipes this season as senior Matt Welch returns along with freshman newcomers Jeff Bernyk and Sebastian Ramirez. Sophomores Cody Krynock and Tim McDougall will also battle for time in the crease. The schedule this season includes a number of Top20 ACHA programs at the Division I level including a three-game series in the ACHA Showcase, and a trip to Annapolis, Md. to battle Navy. Many of the prominent local powers will also do battle with the Bulldogs including Michigan-Dearborn, Oakland University, EMU and Kent State. This season the club will host former national champion Lindenwood University at home while doing battle in their arena for two games in late November. “Our schedule dictates the direction we want the team moving in, and that is to compete and contend with the best programs at our level throughout the country,” stated second year head coach Dan Phelps. “We have worked hard to bring strong, dedicated student-athletes into our program that set goals that concur with the direction of the program and the foundation that has been laid with the veteran players. Defense, as always, will be a core to the success of our program. Our offensive ability can be very intimidating when on, which will compliment a solid defensive team.” Jared Semple (Canora, Saskatchewan) led the team in points (39) a year ago. The sophomore played in 33 games and scored a team-high 25 goals. Eight of his 25 goals came on a power play, and he also scored one shorthanded. Semple was third on the team with 14 assists. Mike Yakamovich (Grosse Point Mich.) played in 29 games for the Bulldogs. Yakamovich was sixth on the team in points with 21. He scored nine goals and added 12 assists. Mark Eberline (Novi, Mich.) and Trevor Markovich (Albion, Mich.) impacted the team in 2008-09. These two players were on the ice for all 36 games, and they also served as the team’s first graduates from the program. Eberline was second on the team with 37 points. He scored 15 goals, and recorded a team-high 22 assists. Markovich racked up 15 goals and 14 assists to end the season with 29 points.

Arrington Ice Arena
Arrington Ice Arena was officially dedicated and opened for business on October 19, 2007 as the men’s varsity hockey team squared off in their inaugural game against Potsdam State. The Bulldogs christened the new facility with a resounding 9-1 win in front of a packed crowd, who were also in attendance to see Lord Stanley’s Cup on loan from the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto. The facility is home to Adrian College’s men’s and women’s varsity Division III hockey teams as well as the ACHA Division I and II men’s hockey teams and the synchronized skating team. The arena is named after Dr. Robyn Arrington, Jr. and his brother, fellow Adrian alumnus Col. Harold Arrington. The brothers donated $3 million on behalf of their family. The $5.5 million project is also a place where local residents can use the facility for recreational activities. The operating schedule includes open skates for the community, learn-to-skate programs for children and adults and hockey programs for people of various ages and abilities.
