COACHING STAFF Head Coach Mark White

45-34 at Adrian College 4th Season mwhite@adrian.edu 517-265-5161 ext. 3978 Adrian College (1988) Mark White enters his fourth season as head coach of the Adrian College men’s basketball team in 2012-13. White has led a resurgence in the men’s basketball program at Adrian College. The team has posted 45 wins in the last three seasons and went 17-9 overall and 9-5 in the MIAA a year ago finishing second. It was the best finish by an Adrian College men’s basketball team in the MIAA since the 1978-79 season. The 17 wins were also the most by a Bulldog men’s basketball team since the 1954-55 season (21-4). In addition, Adrian pushed Hope College to overtime in the MIAA Tournament Final in Holland, Michigan narrowly missing out on the school’s first-ever trip to the NCAA Tournament. In his past two seasons, White has guided the Bulldogs to a .500 or better record every year. In 2010-11, Adrian was 13-13 overall and 7-7 in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association. The Bulldogs led the league in scoring defense allowing 56.9 points per game (a school record) and in rebounds with 31.6 a contest. In White’s first season in 2009-10, Adrian had a seven-win improvement and placed third in the MIAA standings. The thirdplace showing was the best finish in conference play for the Bulldogs since the 1987-88 season. Adrian finished 15-12 overall (9-5 MIAA) in 2009-10 with one of its biggest wins coming when it knocked off NCAA tournament participant Hope at the Merillat Center in late February. The Bulldogs finished the season by winning seven of their final 10 games. White was hired in May 2009 as Adrian’s coach and replaced longtime coach Buck Riley. He meshed a group of 11 newcomers to help the Bulldogs put together a strong season. Adrian was the youngest team in the MIAA and exceeded preseason expectations. White is a 1988 graduate of Adrian College and was inducted into their college athletic hall of fame in 2002. He currently ranks fifth on the career charts in scoring with 1,454 points and is also the current holder of the all-time assists record. White comes back to Adrian College after a very successful career as a prep coach in his hometown of Detroit, Mich. He compiled a record of 201-42 during his time as head coach at Renaissance High School and Southeastern High School. He coached two Michigan Class B high school state championship teams at Renaissance in 2004 and 2006 and advanced to the state semifinals four out of five seasons from 2002 to 2006.

WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING... “Mark White is a well organized coach. He is a great teacher of the fundamentals of the game. His energy and enthusiasm is contagious. I sense he has been a driving force in many players’ lives on and off the court. His accomplishments at Renaissance and Southeastern are a testament of his ability to produce championship contenders each year. He will be a great fit at his alma mater.” - University of Michigan men’s basketball coach John Beilein. “Mark White is a great hire for Adrian College. He’s won numerous championships in his career, but even more importantly, he wins the right way. He’s not going to be outworked and he spends time with his players, establishing very important relationships. I’ve recruited his players for several years, and academically and socially, they are always prepared for the next step in life. I have no doubt that he’ll be successful at Adrian.” Michigan State University men’s basketball coach Tom Izzo

We think “DIFFERENTLY.”

Jeffrey R. Docking President of Adrian College “Great things are happening here, and I would love for you to become a part of it. I am a firm believer that small liberal arts colleges like this one offer the best undergraduate education available and we at Adrian are determined to achieve excellence in this endeavor. I invite you to discover more about what can happen for you here. Learn about our small classes, about our devoted faculty who put students first, and about our dedication to helping you prepare for success. This is a place where you will discover your potential, and where you will leave your personal mark. If you become involved in all that Adrian has to offer, I am convinced that you will not only acquire the knowledge and skills for success well beyond college, but you will also find these next four years to be the most enjoyable and gratifying in your life.”

MiLes from Detroit

We are a campus of confidence, heart, and determination. We aren’t your average college experience ... we are distinctive. We are made up of achievers, believers, entrepreneurs, and leaders. We are more than simply a “small college,” we are the roots of change. We inspire, ignite, and grow here. It’s getting your master’s degree in five years; it’s being a scholar, an athlete, and a humanitarian ... but more than just a number.

Do you have the “bulldog mentality?” 16

It’s not about winning championships... but let’s face it, that is what we do here. We throw winning passes, hit home runs, score hat-tricks, and serve up wins in nearly every sport on campus. Maybe it’s because our athletes are strong — both in their sports and in their classes. The average GPA for our student athlete is above a 3.0, and with over 50% of our student body involved in some form of athletic activity, that says something. Actually, it says a lot.

We value a winning tradition on and off the court, the field, the ice or wherever our students spend their training time. Visit adrianbulldogs.com for more information
