Kristina Schweikert enters her seventh season as the head coach of the Adrian College softball team. Adrian has posted 20 or more wins in five of her six seasons and is the school’s all-time winningest coach with 161 wins. The Bulldogs have an overall record of 161-77 and a 64-30 mark in the MIAA under Schweikert. The team has finished second place twice and has qualified for the MIAA Tournament every year under her direction. In 2013, the Bulldogs compiled a 19-17 record and were third in the MIAA with an 11-5 record. The team accomplished a winning record without a senior on the team and also placed second in the MIAA Tournament. The Bulldogs defeated Hope, 3-1, and Alma, 2-1, in 17 innings which was the longest softball game in tournament history. The team also produced a nine-game win streak heading into the postseason. The Bulldogs completed a 23-17 season in 2012 and were 10-6 (3rd place) in the MIAA. Adrian picked up one win over a top 25 team with a 2-1 win over Trine in game two of a doubleheader on April 7. The team also picked up a win in the MIAA Tournament, 6-2, over Saint Mary’s on May 3. The Bulldogs batted .289 as a team and ranked 62nd of 402 Division III teams with a 2.21 earned run average and 47th in fielding percentage (.962). In 2011, Adrian set a school-record with 35 wins and also set a school-record by beginning the season with 24 straight victories including a 14-4 drubbing of #4 Messiah on Feb. 28. The team went 11-5 in the MIAA and finished third. Adrian went 29-11 in 2010 and were second place in the MIAA with a 12-4 record. The team finished second in the conference tournament with a 1-0 loss in the final game against Trine at Alma. Adrian outscored their opponents, 239-103, during the season. In 2009, Schweikert guided the Bulldogs to a 34-8 overall record. The 34-win mark set an Adrian College team record at the time. The Bulldogs also set school records with 58 doubles as a team, and 515 total bases. Schweikert used the talented roster to make a splash in the 2009 NCAA Mideast Regionals held in Greencastle, Indiana. Adrian College represented the MIAA conference as the third-seed in the Central Region. Under Schweikert, 12 players have been named First Team All-MIAA honorees, four players have been named All-Region and one has been named AllAmerican. The Rochester, N.Y. native took over the helm of the Bulldog softball program in 2008 after serving as an assistant coach at Siena Heights University. A four-year letterwinner at Tiffin University (Ohio), Schweikert earned numerous accolades for her career with the Dragons as a first baseman and center fielder. She was named First Team All-Conference in 2004, 2005, and 2006. In her senior season alone, Schweikert was tabbed AMC Player of the Week, First Team All-Region, First Team NFCA All-American, First Team NAIA All-American, First Team Academic All-American and AMC North Player of the Year.
