DOCKING STADIUM Adrian College boasts one of the finest stadiums in NCAA Division III. The Bulldogs opened the Multi-Sport Performance Stadium in 2006 and renamed it Docking Stadium in 2013. The Adrian College lacrosse, soccer, and football teams call this place home.
The Adrian College Bulldogs have the “crown jewel” of Division III stadiums. The stadium is entering its seventh year of existence on the campus of Adrian College and is a premier facility. The stadium was renamed in 2013 to honor current Adrian College president Dr. Jeffrey R. Docking. The $6.5 million dollar masterpiece was completed in time for the beginning of the 2006 season. The women’s lacrosse team has enjoyed a .841 winning percentage (37-7) in the stadium since their inaugural 2008 season and will look to continue their success into the 2014 campaign. Not only do the lacrosse teams enjoy this facility, but Adrian College’s soccer and football teams also play their home games at Docking Stadium. The stadium seats approximately 3,000 fans with 2,500 chairback seats on the home side and an additional 500 bleacher seats on the visitor side. Features include state-of-the-art ProGrass turf, stadium lighting, a fully-wired press box, and an end-zone section for student seating. In
addition, there is the James F. Thomas Pavilion which is used for a variety of events including alumni gatherings on game-days. In the 1950s, the campus had a stadium that was located next to Caine Student Center (then called Ridge Gymnasium). It was later razed to make way for new academic buildings. The College entered a cooperative arrangement in the 1960’s to use the new high school stadium, which the College helped build. The Bulldogs played their home games at Maple Stadium for over four decades before the 2006 season. “The Mape” was the site for several classic battles over the years. The funds for the project were raised through the Adrian College Development Office. Architectural services were provided by Hastings & Chivetta, an industry leader in higher education facilities. The firm designed the Merillat Sport & Fitness Center on campus. Construction management was provided by the Douglas Company.

COACHING STAFF Melissa Nakasuji Head Coach 1st Season Limestone (2011) 517-265-5161 x 4000 mnakasuji@adrian.edu
Melissa Nakasuji brings a variety of coaching experience to her job as head coach at Adrian College. Nakasuji was the assistant for the Bulldogs in 2013. She helped guide Adrian to the MIAA championship in the conference’s inaugural lacrosse season. The Bulldogs went a perfect 6-0 in conference play and 17-3 overall. Adrian made the NCAA tournament where they won their first round game over Kenyon (Ohio) 18-16 and lost in the second round to Cortland State (N.Y.). Prior to Adrian College, Nakasuji coached peewee boys’ box lacrosse as well as U-15, U-17 and U-19 girls’ field lacrosse in Ontario, Canada. In 2011, she gained valuable experience completing a coaching internship at Limestone College under the guidance of head coach Scott Tucker. As a player, Nakasuji competed for Limestone College in Gaffney, S.C. from 2008-11. While there, she helped lead the Lady Saints to four consecutive Conference Carolinas Regular Season and Tournament championships. Nakasuji and the Lady Saints made appearances in the NCAA Division II Tournament each of her four years at Limestone, playing in the semi finals as a freshman and a sophomore, the quarter finals as a junior, and the national championship final as a senior. During her playing career at Limestone, the native of Ajax, Ontario, Canada played defense. She started 73 of the 77 games she played in and is currently ranked second all-time in time played with 4,187 minutes. In four seasons, she compiled 61 ground balls, 24 draw controls and 20 caused turnovers and helped the Lady Saints to an impressive 67 wins. In her senior year, she served as team captain. As a result of her prowess on the field, Nakasuji garnered a number of individual awards throughout her career. In 2011, she was recognized as an All-American Honorable Mention by USACollegeLacrosse.com and was named to the IWLCA North-South All-Star game. She was named as an All-Conference Carolinas selection twice, in 2010 and 2011, and earned AllTournament honors in 2011. In June 2012, Nakasuji graduated from the University of Ontario Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Education. She also holds a Bachelor of Science from Limestone College, with a double major in Physical Education and Strength & Conditioning, and a minor in Coaching.
Q and A with Coach Nakasuji Q: What are your goals for this season? A: The goal for the year is to win the MIAA conference championship and make the first round of the NCAA tournament. Q: What are your team’s strengths? A: Our team’s biggest strength is that all of our girls are incredibly close. We are a family. The great chemistry off the field naturally transfers onto the field. Q: What is the outlook of this year’s MIAA competition? A: We are the preseason favorite to win the MIAA and the defending champions. That means that we have a target on our backs, and everyone is going to want to beat us. We have to focus on one game at a time, and we cannot underestimate any team in our conference.
