There’s nowhere quite like Rheged, where the arts meet good food, family and fun under the largest grass roof for miles around and it’s where we share every aspect of what we love about Cumbria. Families are among our most important visitors. Play is part of the fabric of Rheged, from free outdoor play to a giant cinema. This summer our programme is packed full of activities for all ages and we have family films showing

daily from Roald Dahl classics to new releases. Discover our interactive exhibition ‘Roald Dahl’s Wondrous World’, hands-on workshops to get all the family involved and family theatre.

Immerse yourself in Rheged’s interactive exhibition as you journey through 6 of his most iconic stories including James and the Giant Peach and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to The Twits and more. From sneaking past the sleeping giant in The BFG’s cave, to crawling into the giant peach with James, and evading the chokey in Crunchem Hall, plus much much more! 15 June–2 September 10am–5.30pm daily • Last entry 4.30 pm

Journey through 6 stories and experience...

In our interactive hands-on exhibition

James is the loneliest little boy in the world. One afternoon, fantastically peculiar events begin to unfold... Crawl into the Giant Peach and meet James’ new friends. Give Centipede a hand with his boots!

Go through the gates of Cruncham Hall but be careful not to get thrown out of the playground by your pig tails or even worse into the Chokey! Three horrid farmers - Boggis, Bunce and Bean - hate cunning Mr Fox, who outwits them at every turn. Venture into the farm yourself and sneak plump chickens and juicy apples, but beware, the farmers are never far from the scene.

Nobody has seen Willy Wonka — or inside his amazing chocolate factory — for years. Step inside Willy Wonka’s factory where many wonderful surprises await! Whatever you do, DON’T PRESS ANY BUTTONS, or who knows what might happen?

Walk into Mr and Mrs Twit’s house where you will see the Muggle-Wump monkeys have been hard at work and turned the terrible Twits’ house upside down!

Enter The BFG’s cave where a mystical and magical world of dreams await but watch out for the sleeping giants!
