Late night with the basketball team Your Comets wheel into the basketball season BY: ABBY NAGODE
To introduce the 2015-2016 basketball season, the Comets hosted their annual “Late Night” event with a fun twist. Wheelchair basketball. At the end of the Durant football game, faithful fans filed into the main gym to support the team. To start off the event, the freshmen and varsity teams were introduced. Then everyone sat down, even the players. The Comets agreed to scrimmage a local wheelchair basketball team, the Tulsa Jammers. This coed team competes in tournaments all across the United States. When the horn blew, the Jammers took it to the Comets. Coach Limes even jokingly referred to his group as the Bishop Kelley Airballers. The Jammers dominated the court, but the Comets learned as they went. “I wasn’t expecting it to be that hard to play wheelchair
basketball, I’m really impressed with what the Jammers do,” Macy Craig (10) said. The final score mercifully won’t make it into the record books, but the Comets have a new respect for wheelchair basketball. Once back on their feet, the Comet players and coaches turned their sights to the basketball season. The girl’s team got a promising first win at Jenks on December 1, and both teams play the home opener on December 8th against Broken Arrow. “I’m really excited and ready,” Meredith Wilson (11) said of the season. The leaves are falling off the trees, and it is getting much colder outside which can only mean one thing, basketball season is in full swing. Enjoy an indoor sport, be loud and support your Comets!!

Hidden from view, Joe Edmonds (11) finds out why you don’t let a ball roll under your chair. Helped back upright, he continued to play with only a slight bruise to his ego. “It was a lot of fun and I’m looking forward to doing it again hopefully without falling,” Edmonds said.
