Stuco state convention

BK student council travels to Yukon for the 2015 state convention BY MADDI DUKE

The student council state convention is an annual event, hosted by the Oklahoma Association of Student Councils. This year it was hosted at Yukon High School. The state convention brings STUCO delegates from every corner of the state to one school for one weekend. On Saturday, November 7, the Bishop Kelley bus headed out to Yukon with 25 STUCO kids. For the past 4 years, Yukon High School has prepared for the weekend in early November. The OASC (Oklahoma Association of Student Councils) hosted over 2,000 high school students, giving the opportunity for STUCO kids to meet others from all over Oklahoma. This also makes it the largest convention in OASC history.

Following a James Bond theme, the convention was named “0075” for the 75th annual event. The convention was filled with reunions, fun activities, spy missions to decode the leader, speakers, exotic animals, and unforgettable adventures in Frontier City. Marc LaManque (12), the 2015 OASC president, con-

ducted his last meeting that Monday. “I got to give my farewell address at the convention. Giving my presidential address was one of my favorite moments as president. I got to wrap up the year and get out all the thank you’s that needed to be said,” Marc said. For the past year, Marc worked endlessly on improving

the OASC and meeting some of the best people in Oklahoma. Led by some of Oklahoma’s top advisors, Maggie Gabel and Gary Oberste, Marc truly did make a positive impact on everyone in the OASC. Marc states that the convention was the peak of his entire year as state president. Alongside his fellow state officers, Destiny from Deer Creek, and Emily from Yukon, they passed on the positions to the current state officers. Each of these students serve as representatives for the position the school holds. Therefore Bishop Kelley was the president of the OASC this past year thanks to Marc. “All in all, state was an incredible weekend full of leadership, laughter, friends, tears, and “see you laters” that left a special mark on my heart,” Marc said.
