¡ADIOS, AMERICA! BY SARA WALTON

In less than 6 months, a group of students will be in the air headed for Barcelona, Spain. This 12 day tour is through EF Educational Tours. The students will be able to experience the beauty and culture of Barcelona, Toledo, Madrid, Granada, Costa Del Sol, and Seville. “I’ve always wanted to travel the world, and the opportunity presented itself. My parents really encouraged it because they thought it would be educational,” Matt Smith (11) said. The group will be traveling for 2 full days to and from Spain on a 10-hour flight. The Spanish club will be escorted by Señora Thach and Mrs. Monhaut, along with a full-time tour guide who will lead them through historic cities. Some sights they will encounter are the Plaza Mayor, Plaza de Oriente, and the Royal Palace. Another form of transportation while they’re visiting is an AVE train, which takes travelers to and from big cities. This will be helpful for the group because they will be visiting 6 major historical cities. “I’m really expecting a cool experience out of this trip,” Smith said. “I look forward to

keeping the memories from different countries.” Along with the tour, the kids will also be able to participate in activities throughout the trip. On the itinerary, they’re scheduled to be involved in a city-wide scavenger hunt, have flamenco lessons, and go to the beaches of Costa Del Sol. 12 students are currently signed up, but it is possible for a student to join at the last minute. Chaperones Señora Thach and Mrs. Monhaut are excited to share this experience with the group. “I even have a countdown app on my phone for the trip! I can’t wait,” Lauren Stotler (11) said. The club members are excited to finally put their Spanish to use. “My favorite part of Spain is everything! There’s always something going on and the lifestyle is so simple,” Señora Thach said. “I really hope the kids see the world outside of Tulsa, Oklahoma and that they can take advantage of the ability to speak Spanish.” Both the students and the teachers are counting down the days until departure, and will surely return with amazing, life-long memories of Spain.
