Yn 21 oed, cynhyrchodd Joshua Bell ei ddisg concerto gyntaf yn 1988 gydag Academy of St Martin in the Fields dan ei sefydlydd, Syr Neville Marriner. Bedair blynedd ar hugain yn ddiweddarach mae'n dychwelyd fel ei gyfarwyddwr cerddorol newydd mewn cerddoriaeth sy'n amrywio o Symffoni Cyntaf heriol Beethoven drwy diroedd gogledd Symffoni Albanaidd Mendelssohn a Ffantasi Albanaidd Bruch â'i ddylanwad gwerin. “Joshua Bell is the greatest American violinist active today” (THE BOSTON HERALD)
27’ 30’ 38’
Twenty-one year old Joshua Bell made his first concerto disc in 1988 with the Academy of St Martin in the Fields under its founder, Sir Neville Marriner. Now, twenty-four years later, he’s back again as their new music director in music ranging from the young Beethoven’s defiant First Symphony through to the northern landscapes of Mendelssohn’s Scottish Symphony and the folkinfluenced Scottish Fantasy by Bruch. “Joshua Bell is the greatest American violinist active today” (THE BOSTON HERALD)
Teithiodd y minimalydd enwog o Efrog Newydd, Steve Reich, i Affrica i astudio technegau drymio traddodiadol gyda'r meistr drymio, Gideon Alorwoyie. O hyn y deilliodd Drumming: taith 90 munud a wnaeth, drwy offerynnau taro a lleisiau merched, newid perthynas cerddoriaeth y Gorllewin â rhythm pan gafodd ei pherfformio'n gyntaf yn 1971. Gan symud o ddrymiau i gyseinedd disglair glockenspielau a marimbas a lleisiau, mae Drumming yn brofiad cyntefig ac adfywiol sy'n ysgogi'r meddwl a'r corff. Peidiwch â cholli allan!

Legendary New York minimalist Steve Reich travelled to Africa to study traditional drumming techniques with master-drummer Gideon Alorwoyie. The result was Drumming: a 90-minute journey for percussion and female voices that, at the time of its 1971 premiere, redefined Western music’s relationship with rhythm. Moving from drums through the glowing resonance of glockenspiels and marimbas and voices, Drumming is a primeval and uplifting experience engaging both mind and body. Unmissable.

Unmissable.

Mozart’s Requiem has all the elements of Gothic fantasy ranging from its commission by a mysterious stranger through to its composition on Mozart’s deathbed. Shot through with pathos, passion and an other-worldly monumental grandeur, it is one of his most popular works, heard here next to the quiet dignity of his Masonic Funeral Music and movements from Hans Werner Henze’s instrumental Requiem: “spiritual concertos” for solo trumpet, piano and orchestra.

Dathliadau dau gan mlynedd: Mae Defod y Gwanwyn gan Stravinsky yn adlewyrchu dyfodiad byrlymus y gwanwyn yn Rwsia. Fe'i perfformiwyd yn gyntaf dros ganrif yn ôl. Mae'n hawdd gweld pan nad yw cerddoriaeth y Gorllewin wedi llwyr adfer o hyn. A, dwy ganrif ar ôl iddo gael ei eni, bydd trasiedi fytholegol hiraethus Götterdämmerung gan Wagner, sy'n ymwneud â chariad, grym a dial, a cherddoriaeth o ddrama arallfydol eangfrydig y greal sanctaidd, Parsifal. Mae’r cyngerdd hwn yn rhan o dymor Breuddwyd Wagner Opera Cenedlaethol Cymru.
Two centenary celebrations: Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring evokes the searing explosion of the violent arrival of the Russian spring. Premiered a hundred years ago, it’s easy to see why Western music has never quite recovered. And, in the bi-centenary of his birth, extracts from Götterdämmerung, Wagner’s brooding mythological tragedy of love, power and vengence and music from the spacious other-worldly drama of the holy grail, Parsifal. This concert is part of WNO’s Wagner Dream season.

Dathliadau dau gan mlynedd: Mae Defod y Gwanwyn gan Stravinsky yn adlewyrchu dyfodiad byrlymus y gwanwyn yn Rwsia. Fe'i perfformiwyd yn gyntaf dros ganrif yn ôl. Mae'n hawdd gweld pan nad yw cerddoriaeth y Gorllewin wedi llwyr adfer o hyn. A, dwy ganrif ar ôl iddo gael ei eni, bydd trasiedi fytholegol hiraethus Götterdämmerung gan Wagner, sy'n ymwneud â chariad, grym a dial, a cherddoriaeth o ddrama arallfydol eangfrydig y greal sanctaidd, Parsifal. Mae’r cyngerdd hwn yn rhan o dymor Breuddwyd Wagner Opera Cenedlaethol Cymru.
Two centenary celebrations: Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring evokes the searing explosion of the violent arrival of the Russian spring. Premiered a hundred years ago, it’s easy to see why Western music has never quite recovered. And, in the bi-centenary of his birth, extracts from Götterdämmerung, Wagner’s brooding mythological tragedy of love, power and vengence and music from the spacious other-worldly drama of the holy grail, Parsifal. This concert is part of WNO’s Wagner Dream season.

PHILHARMONIA ORCHESTRA Conductor Soloist Elgar Mozart Vaughan Williams
Sir Andrew Davis Lise de la Salle, piano Overture, In the South Alassio Piano Concerto No 9, Jeunehomme Symphony No 2, London
Syr Andrew David yw un o ddehonglwyr medrusaf un o glasuron Lloegr. Dewch i'w glywed yn egni a brwdfrydedd cerdd-dôn Eidalaidd epig Elgar, ynghyd â London Symphony Vaughan Williams, a gyfansoddwyd cyn 1914, sy'n adlewyrchu synau'r hansomau, organau ceg Llundain a'r Dafwys dawel gyda'r nos. Bydd y pianydd o Ffrainc, Lise de la Salle, yn perfformio Nawfed Concerto Piano Mozart, lle cafodd hyd i'w lais aeddfed trasig, tywyll. "I have rarely heard a young pianist so in love with music, so memorably and naturally immersed in the task in hand. Music is, quite simply, her world; she moves within its realm as naturally as a fish swims or a bird flies." (GRAMOPHONE)

Sir Andrew Davis is one of today’s supreme interpreters of the great English classics. Hear him in the unstoppable energy and vigour of Elgar’s epic Italian tone-poem next to the pre-1914 world of Vaughan Williams’s London Symphony, evoking the sounds of hansom cabs, Cockney mouth-organs and the tranquil Thames at night. Rising French pianist Lise de la Salle performs Mozart’s Ninth Piano Concerto, in which he discovered his dark tragic mature voice. "I have rarely heard a young pianist so in love with music, so memorably and naturally immersed in the task in hand. Music is, quite simply, her world; she moves within its realm as naturally as a fish swims or a bird flies." (GRAMOPHONE)
