Influence. I reported recently on my correspondence with the WPBSA regarding their mis-captioning of the photo in the introduction to the Official Rules. They have been as good as their word and have indeed corrected it in the recent reprint, and are sending us some complimentary hard copies.

Coaching for beginners. In an initiative to help encourage beginners and newcomers, Cynthia Li has set up a system whereby anyone who wants to get a start in the game may be paired with a more experienced player as coach. Three coaches have volunteered, and the first session in July was enthusiastically received by the participants. To arrange a coaching session or for more information, contact

Other matters. The Ladder remains quite active, although it’s disappointing that so many members are away and therefore inactive; but the competition is reduced, so a good opportunity to join! Matches resumed on 18 August with ABC visiting; results next month. And don’t forget the open Club snooker evenings on the first Thursday of each month.
