If your fashion style is feminine, timeless, confident, colourful and comfortable, than this new label Ebony Rose will be your go to label. Designer and owner, Ebony Englert is about to enter into her final year at Whitehouse Institute of Design studying Fashion Design. And with her label already up and running, this is just the start of her career. FLAUNT took some time to interview her and ask a few questions.

FLAUNT What made you decide you wanted to study fashion/become a designer?
EBONY ROSE I’ve always wanted to become a fashion designer, it has always inspired me and I loved playing dress ups when I was little. When I was in primary school I had a sketch book where I drew designs and priced them. I watched my first live fashion show when I was in year ten at Sydney Fashion Festival with a couple of friends and due to that I made my final decision that fashion design is what I want to do.
FLAUNT Tell us about your design process from beginning to end and what is a typical day for you?
EBONY ROSE I start with a few sketches and then look for fabrics to see if the designs will work. Then I do pattern making and also some toiles until they fit well, then I sew the garments and after that I do the final touches for example hand stitched hems and labels.
FLAUNT How do you select your fabrics, before or after you draw your collection? And what you look for when choosing a fabric?
EBONY ROSE I draw some designs, so I have a basic idea of what I would like to do, but when I select my fabric I have to change some designs to suit the fabric more of which was available. The fabric I look for has the characteristics of been feminine, comfortable, colourful, doesn’t crease easily, something that will hopefully flatter on everyone body and something that will not date out.

FLAUNT What does fashion mean to you? Do you have any other passions besides fashion?
EBONY ROSE Fashion means to me that I’m providing people will confidence and helping them feel comfortable and express themselves, cause I love seeing happy people. And I know for me that when I’m wearing something that I really like it’s a confidence boost and I want to do that for my customer. And also fashion gives me the canvas where I can express myself and think out of the box. My other passion would be family and friends and I also like mission work because when I was in High School I went on some mission trips to Aboriginal communities and also Fiji where we built places for them and helped them and hanging with the kids and hearing their stories are really inspirational.
FLAUNT What part of your job do you like the best? And least?
EBONY ROSE I like seeing my designs coming to life from a sketch to a garment. I also like seeing my customers wearing my designs and boosting their confidence and their positive feedback. My least favourite will probably be pattern making.

EBONY ROSE I have a market store at Kirribilli Markets, every second sunday of each month.
