Fashion Show 2015
where catwalk meets charity
Students showcased some of the latest high street, Asian and prom fashions during a charity fashion show last week. Organised by Year 9 students as part of their Duke of Edinburgh’s Bronze Award, the event featured outfits from All The Rage Too in Accrington, Winstanley’s Morning Wear in Oswaldtwistle and custom designed prom dresses from Thimbles in Clayton-Le-Moors; all modelled by our students as well as some members of staff – including headteacher
Paul Trickett! The evening also featured vocal and dance performances from some of our extremely talented Performing Arts students. All proceeds from the event will go to this year’s chosen charity Save The Children, who students and staff have been raising money for all month. Over £230 was raised from ticket sales and student-made refreshments during the interval. So far, including the money from the fashion show, we have raised £1500 this term – and that figure is still rising.
Bringing Xmas cheer to our vulnerable residents (left) Vivienne Cooke from Hyndburn Homes with Year 7 students Deanna Hill, and Charlotte Hopkinson We have joined forces with Hyndburn Homes, in a bid to help the borough’s most lonely, vulnerable and those who may find it difficult to go out and shop over the Christmas period. Each hamper has been expertly packed and decorated by the school children and includes a selection of goodies including; tinned meat, veg, chocolates and
a Christmas cracker. The project, now in its fourth year, has been funded by Hyndburn Homes, with food donations from our students, staff and Hyndburn Homes. The hampers will now be delivered to residents in time for Christmas, hopefully bring some cheer to those who need it at what can be a difficult time.

Continent House Discovering Democracy Award
round-up
This term, students have been involved in a wide variety of activities based around our new Continent House system. All students took part in our first World Exploration Day, where their lessons were focused around globalthemed group activities. House points were awarded to the teams who performed best during their given tasks. An inter-house football league has also been established, with teams formed from mixed year groups. This has been extremely well supported and the participants have been excellent. This year’s chosen school charity is Save The Children and students and staff have been raising money through various events and activities. There have been bake sales, teacher spongings, sponsored silences, a FIFA tournament, Fashion Show and Christmas Show. So far the total raised stands at over £1500 – and is still rising!

Clef Club Donation We would like to thank Helen Barrett and all the former members of the Accrington Clef Club for their extremely generous donation of £1000 to our music department. Sadly, the club ceased operation earlier this year and has kindly donated their remaining funds to local schools. The money has gone towards a brand new iMac computer for our music students to use for recording their own tracks.
