Year 7 triumph at local Spelling Bee

WINNERS: Muieez Ali,Thomas Gales-Ellis, Katie Aspin & Maariya Ahmed celebrate with Ms Keough, Mrs Beniston Mrs McRae & Mr Mercer

Year 7 students have been celebrating after they took first place in the Hyndburn Leading Edge Spelling Bee. Rhyddings took on top competition from Mount Carmel, Norden and Hollins to take this year’s title. There was an outstanding performance from Muieez Ali who won the ‘Last Man Standing’ round and a great team effort at the end, answering 26 correct spellings in two minutes to closely beat Mount Carmel. Mr Mercer said: “Mrs Beniston, the Year 7 leaders and myself are so proud of the team’s efforts and all of the supporters who came with us. “We’re delighted to have won and some of the spellings were incredible!”

Year 8 go the extra mile!

ON SET: Year 10 students working behind the scenes

Year 10 Media Studies students recently spent the day working with professionals from Rowbot Street Studios on an interschools film project. The class worked with an actor and took turns at all aspects of the filming process from operating the camera and recording the sound to directing the action. Although they only shot a few minutes of footage, the shoot took up most of the day. Rowbot Street will be shooting other scenes at other schools before bringing all the parts together in the finished, as yet untitled, film.

Holiday Hampers

Mr Fielding and Mrs Stobbs would like to again congratulate all the students in Year 8 who were praised in assembly for overachieving in two or more subjects whilst not underachieving in any of their other lessons. Well done!

Year 7 students have been bringing some Christmas cheer to elderly and vulnerable members of the community this week. Students and staff have donated items that were made up into hampers, and with the help of Hyndburn Homes, delivered to residents in Oswaldtwistle and Spring Hill.
