Fashion Show
March/April 2012
Students hit the catwalk with latest prom styles to raise charity money Rhyddings students took to the catwalk last week – showing off some of the latest styles in fashion and the current trends in prom wear – in our annual fashion show. The yearly enterprise event showcases clothes, prom dresses and dinner suits available at some of our best local businesses. We had the hottest high street looks from All The Rage Too and some gorgeous bespoke prom gowns from The Sewing Room; both shops based in Accrington. The lads took to the runway wearing some ultra-stylish evening wear kindly provided by Winstanley’s Morning Wear, situated here in Oswaldtwistle. The evening also featured fantastic talent demonstrations from our student dancers Kadie Sidwell and Katie Howard as well as stunning vocals performances by Rhianna Gibson and Kayode Adewale. As well as enjoying the fashion,Year 8 student Tutu Mukelabai gave a talk about the importance of our Young Aawaz Girl’s Group raising funds for this year’s chosen charity, Children’s Hospice Derian House. Organiser Carmel Cunliffe said: “This annual event gives us the opportunity to showcase the many talents of our students and to help advertise and support our local businesses who provide the fantastic suits, dresses and outfits that make it all possible.”

Jane says that the confidence and supportive group of friends and teachers she gained at school is key to her success so far!
Tournament Triumph
On Friday 9th March three teams of Rhyddings students competed Nathan Haworth, Sam Baxter, Zak Cunliffe & Lewis Keen in the BAE / Rotary Club’s anual tournament held at Hollins. Their technology challenge this year was to design and make a coin sorter that was both creative and reliable! All of our students taking part did exceptionally well but extra praise must be given to our group of Year 11 boys who were awarded second place in the challenge, competing against secondary schools from across the county.
