CHARITY DAY SUCCESS
EVOLVE students wow audiences in Queen musical ‘We Will Rock You’
GIVING: Our Junior Leadership team hand over cheques to representatives Vicki Haydock and Steve Farr
OGRE BATTLE: Khashoggi (Connor Collinson) & Britney Spears (Christian Wilkinson) fight for the future of the rebel base ‘The Heartbreak Hotel.’
Our EVOLVE Performing Arts students have this week been rocking out on stage in their production of Ben Elton’s Queen musical ‘We Will Rock You’. They have worked exceptionally hard and put in some truly amazing performances, worthy of the standing ovations they received. We would like to thank everyone who has came the shows and supported the students. All proceeds from ticket sales and the raffles go back into the department to help buy new equipment.
Rhyddings have once again gone all out for charity to help raise much needed funds. During the winter term both students and staff took part in various events on our termly charity day. These included a 5k run, bake sale and a Christmas Talent Showcase as well as the Christmas jumper non-uniform theme to collect a fantastic £1836. Two cheques for £918 each were presented to representatives of Pendleside Hospice and Cancer Research UK by our Junior Leadership Team during assembly this month. Vicki Haydock of Pendleside Hospice said: “Two thirds of our funding comes from charity fundraising, which is over £2m per year. For us to receive nearly £1000 from a local high school is fantastic.”
Industry tips for ICT
TECHNOLOGY TOURNAMENT TRIUMPH Students from Rhyddings recently took part in the Rotary International BAE Systems Technology Tournament, held at Hollins Technology College. All students did an exceptional job, with special congratulations to the intermediate team of Harry Skinner, Marissa Martin, Evan Metcalfe, and Austin Moore who brought home the trophy!
EXPERTISE: Solomon White and Kyla-Ja Allen quiz Daniel Cuffe & Peter Taylor about promoting festivals
Year 7 students also took part in a STEM Farraday Challenge this week. They were asked to develop their own communications system that would work in the event of a natural disaster. They designed their own codes and prototype devices as part of the challenge. The winning team are pictured here with their prizes!
This week, Music Promoters Cuffe & Taylor visited Rhyddings to support our Year 10 ICT students. Their current GCSE coursework brief is to organise and design a range of multimedia products to promote a music festival. Daniel Cuffe and Peter Taylor, directors of the company, have organised various music festival events nationwide, including ‘Lytham Festival’. Students learnt about the logistics, promotion and finance of organising successful events. Students took part in a question and answer session, where Peter and Daniel spoke about their business experiences offering advice, guidance and useful websites to help with their projects. We would like to thank Cuffe & Taylor for taking time out of their very busy schedule during the run up to the ‘festival season’ and look forward to the upcoming events planned for summer.
