LIGHTS, CAMERA, PEACE!
CREATIVE: Lucy’s winning entry & Eliza Doolittle on Skype
Rhyddings student Lucy Fox and her classmates have been discussing the importance of world peace with pop star Eliza Doolittle, after winning a national competition. Lucy entered the Vivo Miles ‘Peace One Day’ contest online, answering the question ‘What does peace look to you?’ with an image of herself directing her own film about peace. Peace One Day is a non-profit organisation that aims to make September 21st of each year a day for international peace and unity. Thanks to the work done by the charity, the United Nations adopted September 21st as their day for global ceasefire. VivoMiles is an online rewards system where students save up their class rewards (Vivos) and can exchange them for stationery, mobile top-ups and even prom ticket discounts. As well as winning herself an Apple iPad, Lucy and her classmates got the opportunity to video call pop star Eliza Doolittle and ask her about the initiative. Lucy said: “I found out about the competition on the Vivo website. I didn’t want to just hold up a sign like everyone else seemed to be doing. Then I remembered I got a movie clapperboard for my birthday and thought that would be far more original. “Speaking to Eliza was a little awkward at first and we had a few technical problems, but once we all relaxed we had a good conversation. She was really friendly and told us about how she got involved with Peace One Day movement and about all the events that were taking place to help raise awareness.” For more information on Peace One Day – visit www.peaceoneday.org
