Airports technically are a no mans land, but in many ways the first identity of a city / in some cases the country, in todays globalised world. On the contrary, they being a symbol of global unconciousness, awards an identity to the region. Airports being international spaces belonging to nobody are expected to be futuristic catching up with the panaroic pace of fast emerging cities.

My thesis is an exploration of the complexity of programme, services, technology involved in airport terminal design with an attempt to accelerate its architectural expression. It addresses the velocity of change to catch up with the pace of new emergening cities around the world by breaking out of the modernistic design of Chandigarh.

VISION
Ellipse with two focii makes the smaller plazas; Crossing of the two axis creates the central plaza. These plazas act as breathing spaces generating activities. The journey through two Pedestrian axes, anchored with prime destinations, is exhalirating while taking user through plazas and retail streets. The strong goemetry creates a MENTAL MAP for the viewer from the airplane, a necessity for this site. The First Impression is visually appealing with sweeping curves and legible circulation.

A futuristic business centre (hospitality and commercial use) design, proposed adajacent to the runway of IGI Delhi Airport with National Highway (Delhi-Gurgaon) at the edge and a metro station on the express line of the city. It will contain 40% offices, 40% convention space and hotels, service apartments and 20% retail and entertainment of the total built up.

Broad segregation of functions is maintained both inside and outside of ellipse. DENSE OFFICES are located inside the ellipse for privacy with retail on its ground floor. HOTELS towards airport boundary for runway view and maintaining privacy. Prime RETAIL towards highway to attract users into the site. Hotel and Retail create STRONG EDGES for the site; CONVENTION next to highway can work independently; TRADE CENTRE located at the viewing point with a large green field. Service entries are carefully designed. The entire plaza areas are rendered pedestrian with strategic drop points and all the parking is in basement. A strict elevation control is observed.

NATURE CENTRE is conceived primarily as a day space for visitors, with no lodging facilities. Its primary function is to interpret the cultural identity of the wetland and its surrounding villages in a a building that would involve local communities. LMB is the major bird watching stretch for serious bird watchers and researchers.

The focus of this project is to create a ‘Natural Heritage tourist circuit’ along with developing ‘Educational Tourism’, a long term sustainable and high quality infrastructure. Harike wetland has the international RAMSAR status since 1990. It is situated at the confluence of Beas and Satluj river. Famous for indus dolphins entrance and otters, this wetland also has more than 400 species of migratory birds visiting every winter.

About Deepor Beel Wetland Proposal Deepor beel is a large natural wetland, A Ramsar Site, having great biological and environmental importance. It is endowed with rich floral and faunal diversity. Besides huge congregation of residential water birds, the Deepar beel ecosystem harbours large numbers of migratory waterfowl each year. It is the only major storm water storage basin for the Guwahti City and catchments area, which exceeds 40,000 hectares in total area, supports natural fisheries that is a lifeline to a community of over 5000 fisher folk and contribute significantly to regional trade. Masterplan and zoning along with design ideas are proposed for formulating a long term vision to preserve the Wetlands with the help of the local inhabitants around the area and by developing ecotourism.

As part of Step 6.1 of Delhi 2050, along with the design solutions proposed to the DDA and the residents, a Water Actions Game was launched as a propulsive force for water thought among the future citizens of Dwarka, 8-18 year olds. The intention of this game was to promote addiction to the message rather than the game itself. The game was a culmination of collaborative research conducted at the Sri Venkateshwar School in the form of three workshops with the students where small exercises were held to understand their level of understanding and interest about the looming water crisis.

It is the largest wetland of North India. Harike Wetland is situated in three districts; Amritsar, Ferozpur and Kapurthala, it came into existence in 1953 when the dam was completed just below the confluence of Beas and Sutlej rivers. A bird sanctuary since 1982, it was declared a RAMSAR site in 1990. The wetland provides the main source of water for the Indira Gandhi Canal that travels deep into Rajasthan.
