About The Book

Color Palette

Graphic Design is a field where one can communicate his ideas on to a paper. Typography is part of graphic design that is concerned with design elements that can be applied to the letters and text. Combining these elements, the book ‘ABCD’ is a collection of 26 alphabets. A glossary of terms that play important role in life of a graphic designer. To make it interesting each letter is illustrated in a way that it communicates its meaning and maintains the interactivity with the reader.

J JUSTIFY

You can set the alignment of text to Justify, which stretches the line of text across to fill the width of the whole text frame. This can be a really effective way of neatening the appearance of text and getting rid of any ragged lines.

An important concept to understand when creating typography for display, negative space is the empty or blank space that surrounds an object, character, word, or phrase.

The degree of a color or tonal value. The opacity of an image or object that can range from transparent (0% opacity) to opaque (100% opacity).

Pixel is a single point in a graphic image. Graphics monitors display pictures by dividing the display screen into thousands (or millions) of pixels, arranged in rows and columns.

Q QWERTY

QWERTY is a keyboard design for Latin-script alphabets. The name comes from the order of the first six keys on the top left letter row of the keyboard The QWERTY design is based on a layout created for the Sholes and Glidden typewriter and sold to Remington in 1873.

A rebus is a puzzle device which combines the use of illustrated pictures with individual letters to depict words and/or phrases.

SERIF/ SANS SERIF Serif font in typography, is a small line attached to the end of a stroke in a letter or symbol. A typeface with serifs is called a serif typeface. A typeface without serifs is called sans-serif or sans serif, from the French sans, meaning “without�.

Drawn line under (a word or phrase) to give emphasis or indicate special type. TIP: Underlining is for typewriters; italic is for professional text.

Vector graphics allow the designer to expand or reduce the vector graphic in size without any loss in quality using curves, points, lines, and polygons.

A watermark is a recognizable image or pattern in paper that appears as various shades of lightness/darkness when viewed by transmitted light, caused by thickness or density variations in the paper.

X X- HEIGHT

x-height is the distance between the baseline of a line of type and tops of the main body of lower case letters. The x-height is a factor in typeface identification and readability.

One of the subtractive primary colors of CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow, and black) that is used in four-color process inks.

Z ZIG-ZAG

A zigzag is a pattern made up of small corners at variable angles, though constant within the zigzag, tracing a path between two parallel lines; it can be described as both jagged and fairly regular. Looks like a Z or a row of Zs joined together
