Introduction
7 Greetings. In this digital report you will read about the process of developing the concept “Lost in Time. It all started with a fascination of mine, which is time travel. I started to gain more knowledge about this fascination by doing excersises from class and from this point onward I began to look at the world differently, ask myself many questions and talked with others about their fascinations as well. By answering the preparatory questions at the beginning of this course made me think of things I am curious about. After much contemplating, this personal fascination turned out to be: time travel. Hereafter, by taking pictures in the city of Tilburg, visiting museums and giving my own personal interpretation to words related to time travel, I began to feel more excited, confused and intrigued about time travel. It has been a longtime process, consisting of much thinking, reflecting, making choices and discussing. Additionally, my own personal goals and interests are implemented in this concept, because I feel that is also connected in creating a concept based on a personal fascination. For example, solving riddles and puzzles have always been one of my favourite activities, along with watching films and series. I find it mostly interesting how to combine these interests with time travel. From my fascination - combined with doing research and excersises from class with my own personal goals and interests - I developed the concept that you will find on page 35. This digital report solely covers the relevant steps taken in the process of creating the concept. The knowledge I gained in this process are documented in my personal dummy. Most of the texts in this report are a derivative from the dummy; so if there is any unclarity during your reading I would kindly refer you to the dummy. Also, certain pages or images in this report contain references to the relevant, particular section of the dummy. Go ahead and enjoy your readings!

Preparatory Questions
What are you always curious about?
I have always been a curious person. My mind wanders off during conversations, and during daily activities. Sometimes I even wonder why my mind wanders off so often. To answer the question above, I think it’ll be best to make a short list of the things I mostly think of while daydreaming. Regularly, I am still having these thoughts. * I have always wondered if there are people who know everything, and also remember everything they have seen or heard? And if so, how do they remember everything so easily? For me, memories do not stick in my mind very well, and I have to admit that I have trouble recalling certain events that has happened in my life. Now that I am thinking of it, perhaps my bad memory has also a lot to do with my daydreaming and not fully living in the moment. * Lately I have been listening to a lot of 80’s music which causes me wanting to travel back in time; particularly to that decade. When I see old pictures, films, or listen to old music, I get instantly curious to how life would have been back then. I have a strong feeling that I would really enjoy living in that time period, maybe more than living in the present. * After doing my minor in South Korea, and having to live there for about four months I realised that I have not seen enough of the world yet. During my stay in Korea I had the opportunity to meet people from different countries and backgrounds. Meeting new people has always given me new energy. I am really curious in how they live their lives, and also curious about how they think about certain subjects (religion, values, happiness, family, etc). After writing down my (most common) thoughts and curiosities, I notice that I am mostly curious about other people and their experiences, thoughts and characteristics. Actually, I have repeatedly thought of how cool it would be if it is possible to live inside anther person’s body to experience how his/her life would be. Unfortunately, we do not (yet) have the required knowledge, technology and ethical norms and values to make that happen.

What does creativity mean to you?
Creativity means to me “to have an open-mind, and to be able to something out of all one’s ideas, thoughts, images and knowledge”. Creative people follow their intuition, and they are honest people who dare to show their true colours. In order to have creativity, freedom is needed. Freedom means “no limitations, and enjoying freedom in speech and actions. Therefore freedom is shareable; it has to be shared with others. Also give people the freedom to let them be themselves. Creativity is everywhere and everyone has it. Even though some might find themselves not creative - they are! Creatvity is to be found in all daily activities and in every daily moment. For example, cooking, fixing yout bike, planning your route to work, choosing what to wear, etc.
What fascinates you?
I am fascinated by the way how memories seem to fade away so quickly (or is it just me?). Sometimes I wonder if life would be better in the past... I have been listening to a lot of 80’s music lately and also watching series/films that represents different periods in time. Not only about the past but also about the future. I am fascinated by the way how society looks like at a particular point in time. During Ethics’ class I have learned about ‘zeitgeist’ (“tijdsgeest”). It can be defined as “the defining spirit or mood of a particular period of history as shown by the ideas and beliefs of the time”. Often, I wonder how it would be like to live in a different ‘zeitgeist’. Particularly periods in history (past). “Would life be better/easier? Or worse?” Once, I have told people that I don’t feel that I ‘fit’ in the current ‘zeitgeist’. People I meet feel distant and sometimes I get the feeling I am lost; not in place, but in time. By answering these questions I noticed that my fascination is:

Time Travel
My fascination for time travel stems from my taste in 80’s music and love for classic (arthouse) films such as Chinatown, Forrest Gump, and Back to the Future. Also my need to travel the world is actually an excuse to get out there and have adventures. My curiosity and open-mindedness have always been the driving forces of my daily thoughts and wonders. Sometimes I wonder how life would be like in other time periods or eras and actually think I would enjoy visiting another time period; meeting people from that time era, see how the world is constructed in those times and get a feel of the people’s mentality. Also, photobombing old iconic pictures would be awesome, and discover how the future will look like. This could all be done if time travel is possible, but then I asked myself the question: “If time travel would be possible, how would that look like?”
time travel noun * /`taIm .træv.el/ the concept of movement between certain points in time, analogous to movement between different points in space by an object or a person, typically using a hypothetical device known as a time machine. In fiction - films, books, tv-series - time travel is often related to science and physics wherein time travel seems possible by rational arguments of certain theories. However, time travel is strongly rejected since it creates problems in the continuity of time. In artworks, time travel is always related to the image of a clock. This topic is often to be seen in surrealist paintings, e.g. The Persistence of Memory (1931) by Salvador Dali. Time is seen as an abstract, relative phenomena that we have no control of. Dharmic religions - such as Buddhism - believe in the unity of the universe (“Om”). This implies that the past, present and future are included in an “om” sound that lives beyond time. In a way, they believe that time is something they can ‘cross’. Time travelling * Research in 4 domains of Reality * Lost in Time * 2017
14
Our normal concept of time is useless and 15 irrelevant inside the dream state - time is relative.
Time travel creates a lot of problems and uncertainties for the continuity of “current timeline and can even create new timelines.
Time travel is already possible; travelling to another side of the world is like travelling back and forth in time. Time travelling * Research in 4 domains of Reality * Lost in Time * 2017

Mind mapping
Mind mapping is one of my favourite tools to use during a brainstorm, or in the beginning phase of a project. It helps ordening my thoughts and make connections with a certain subject or word that I would not connect with each other at first thought. Everyone has a different approach in constructing a mind map. To get ideas from my fascination, I wrote down the word ‘time travel’ in the middle and from there started writing down all the things I am thinking of when I read ‘time travel’. During this process, my head feels like a waterfall of words, thoughts and emotions; and I wrote all of it down. After a good fifteen minutes, the page is filled with words that I can relate to time travel. From all of the words in the mind map I chose four keywords from which I think fits the meaning of time travel as being my fascination. The four keywords are: * Adventures * Patience * History * We-mentality Each keyword is also further researched in an individual mind map. The use of mind maps help giving meaning to each keyword, and also generating ideas by making connections between different words within one mind map. You can find the mind maps in the personal dummy.

19 Although mind mapping is a great way to start my thinking process about time travel, it was not enough. In order to get more in depth with my fascination, I had to do research about time travel and the four keywords (adventure, patience, history, we-mentality). The information I gained from this research will help me further along the way; in the process of designing a concept that actually relates to time travel. For this research, I searched for images, general information, articles, definitions and media that describe my fascination and four keywords. By doing this, I gained more insight in the meaning of those words rather than the personal definition I assigned to them. Since the research is constructed on four “levels or domains of reality, this also creates insight in the meaning of those words in different dimensions. Earlier, you read about the meaning of time travel and some corresponding images from the research. This section covers research in four domains of reality of the four keywords. For each keyword, its definition is given with a summary of relevant information from the research and corresponding images. For a complete look of the research I would refer you to the personal dummy. 1.
2.
Adventure
adventure noun * /ed’ven.tjer/ an unusual, exciting, and possibly dangerous activity such as a trip or experience, or the excitement produced by such an activity The first keyword is
Adventure
Adventures include a certain (1) sense of curiosity, (2) people to share the experience with and (3) imagination. These three ingredients for adventure are all to be found in the different domains of reality. In popular culture the value of frindship is a reoccuring theme in adventure stories. In art, the works that seems to have or spark the imagination are the ones that give this imersive feeling since one is intrigued by it. Sense of curiosity Without a sense of curiosity, adventures would not be possible. A person who does not seem interested in experiencing new things or unravelling problems will not feel the excitement of an adventure since there is a lack of intrinsic motivation to look beyond the ordinary. Therefore adventures seem to be for children only, yet travelling for example can be considered an adventure as well. Adventures are for those who are open-minded. People to share the experience with Personally I feel that it is hard to experience the full excitement of an adventure without getting to know others or without sharing the adventure with somebody. In popular culture, the main character in adventure stories are often accompanied by a friend/buddy/guide who helps him achieve a some sort of end goal. Most of the time, that is not what the story is about; it is about the adventures they share along the way. For example, the animated series Rick & Morty and film Up. 20
Imagination Looking beyond the ordinary is a key component to having adventures. Everyday life can feel dull, like a routine and not colourful, but with a little bit of imagination one is able to see things out of the ordinary. There is a reason why so many sci-fi, adventure and fantasy films do well with the audience; people want to escape reality and use their imagination of what can be. Adventures lies ahead for everybody, everyday. It just takes a little bit of imagination to get the excitement of an experience. For example in interpreting artworks with “adventure” took a great deal of imagination to do so.
Travel is the ultimate form of adventure, so it is only logical that time TRAVEL means “adventures in time”.
Adventure is being open to another reality; to something new Adventure * Research in 4 domains of Reality * Lost in Time * 2017
21
Patience
patience noun * /’peI.lens/ the ability to wait, or to continue doing something despite difficulties, or to suffer without complaining or becoming annoyed The second keyword is
Patience
At first, patience seems like an odd word to connect to time travel but in my opinion the development of patience within society has changed over the course of history and I am curious to how it has changed. By travelling back in time, I think it will be interesting to see what people back then considered leisure and I actually long for a society wherein everything does not have to be rushed or things does not have to be instantly checked. Of course, this change cannot be reversed, but there are many sources (religion, artworks, innovative ideas) that lies emphasis on the importance of patience and developing it in today’s society. The Buddhist teachings says that patience is the antidote to anger and aggression. In today’s society I see people becoming more and more impatient because of the ‘instant gratification’ that technology offers. And this actually scares me, because if I think about it - with the Buddhist teachings about patience in mind - what if we become more and more violent because our lack of patience? This thought is the reason why I am skeptic about what the future entails. Online, I found a picture of a bus stop that has books for people to read while waiting. I think this is a genius, modern idea and it fits perfectly with this keyword. While waiting for the bus, one does not have to “suffer” but can enjoy this by reading a book.
Patience * Research in 4 domains of Reality * Lost in Time * 2017
22
When I compare the meaning of patience in the different domains of reality, I can actually see a certain theme that fits this particular keyword. That theme or word is “focus. I think for one to be able to acquire a certain level of patience, he needs focus. Artists who put a lot of their energy, time and money in a creation shows signs of patience, and this is gained by their focus to work on their piece. Also focusing on positive things, events and people help in gaining patience, and decreasing levels of negativity and anger. Ofcourse, others may have different views on this but the point is that today we live in a rushed society wherein patience seems decreasing. If time travel were (already) possible it would be very interesting to see how patient human beings have been in the past and how patient we will be in the future.

24
History
history noun * /’hIs.ter.i/ (the study of or a record of) past events considered together, especially events of a particular period, country, or subject The third keyword is
History
Time travel can go in two directions: the past or the future. Since I think it is more interesting to see what “have already been” rather than to experience what “could be”, history is a keyword that I chose considering time travel. Out of all the time periods humanity has had, I’d pick the 80’s to travel to - for sure. The aesthetics of that era, as depicted by the media, seems so bright and funky. Also, they didn’t have mobile phones yet, so everyone had to have direct contact instead of the distant messaging we have nowadays. In the domain of art, I found some (famous) artworks that had iconic clothes from the time that the paintings were made. I think these paintings depict those ages’ aesthetics very well. History can only be told via manuscripts, film footage and artifacts. I think that is why high culture and history are so woven into each other because both complement the other. There was this interesting passage in the autobiography of Stephen Hawking, where he said that “information is like burning an encyclopedia; the information contained in the encyclopedia is not technically lost if one keeps all the smoke and ashes, but it is very hard to read”. I think the concept of ‘past’ or ‘history’ has the same meaning. These are similarily scattered pieces of information (memories) in our minds. 26
We-mentality * Research in 4 domains of Reality * Lost in Time * 2017
We-mentality
we-mentality noun * /’wi - men’tæleti/ * in contrast to an ‘I-mentality’ * builds trust, support, love, and foundation for security and self-esteem * helping others, not to fix them * keeping an open mind * act of kindness; no expectations The fourth keyword is
We-mentality
Characters in the media that often support this ‘we-mentality’ are knights and children in animation films/tv series. For the latter, it is their innocent nature that creates this humble and kind behaviour. In art, I found the artwork of Matisse La Danse (1909) perfectly fitting for this keyword. The characters seem as one unity of joyeus people who hold hands and dance on - what seems to be the world. This piece of art represents humanity to me. The individuals hold hands which represent supporting on each other and moving (with) others. Within religious groups, there is a lot of we-spirited people as well. Actually, religion and native communities are prime examples of we-mentality. Before the invention of technical gadgets, helping each other without any expectations was considered normal. Sometimes I have a bit of angst of what people will become once we are all surrounded by technology. Do we not trust human beings anymore, but moreover do we put our trust in digits and numbers? Also, are we becoming more and more self-obsessed and show less empathy toward each other, animals and the planet? These are some things I wonder about as well. “My Brief History”
An autobiography by Stephen Hawking
Stephen Hawking (1942-2018) is regarded as one of the most brilliant, influential theoretical physicists since Einstein. His early work showed that classical general relativity broke down at singularities in the “Big Bang” and black holes. His later work has shown how quantum theory can predict what happens at the beginning and end of time. In his autobiography My Brief History (2013) Stephen talks about his childhood, life at college and life after he has been diagnosed with a form of motor neurone disease (also known as ALS). Additionally, he explains his work in less mathematical grammar and informs the reader well about what his work entails. When I think of time travel I think of scientists and cosmologists. Time and space have been proven to be intertwined or connected somehow, and I find that fascinating. The fact that there is already much research conducted about this subject, makes it almost seem plausible. Although I enjoyed reading the book, there are still some scientific words that I cannot fully grasp yet. Apart from that, I liked Stephen’s sense of humor and his way of telling a story. To summarise his book in relation to my fascination, I was quite bummed to find out that Stephen Hawking - a scientist who works on the concept of time (travel) - is certain that time travel will never be possible. But he made a great anecdote explaining why he is skeptic about time travel. “Even if some different theory is discovered in the future, I don’t think time travel will ever be possible. If it were, we would have been overrun by tourists from the future by now”. I can’t say he is not right on that one. In the personal dummy you will find some more quotes from his book that relates to time travel, with an elaboration on why I think they do. Stephen Hawking recently passed away, on March 14th 2018 (age 76). Since I have been watching movies, reading books and get to know more about this man’s life and works, the news of his death hit me harder than I would have expected. Not only his brilliant mind intrigues me, but also his life path and the struggles he had to overcome yet show persistence, is admirable and inspiring to me.

Truism & Statement
Truism
All of the information and inspiration gathered about time travelling and the four keywords, we have come to formulating a truism. A truism is a statement that is obviously true and says nothing new or interesting. In class, I answered the following questions: * what makes life worth living? * what is the biggest injustice in the world? * do you believe in God? why or why not? The answers to these questions helped me with coming up with my personal truism (see dummy). Also, turning back a few pages in my dummy helped me to reflect on my own ‘true belief’. Ultimately, my truism is:
“A bridge between people is build with open-mindedness” This means that I believe that we are all connected somehow but nowadays everyone seems preoccupied with their own interests, goals and opinions resulting in human beings closing their minds for others and their way of seeing things. We are so stuck on our own personal ideas and preferences that we don’t take time or effort to listen and learn from each other. In today’s society we are expected to be a better person (than another), therefore the focus has shifted from “we”or “us” to “I”. Though I see that this is happening in society, I still believe that we can connect with each other - not through technology and media, but by talking and listening to each other. Even helping each other out instead of judging individuals on what they have done wrong. Building bridges between people starts with letting go of prejudices and have the courage to reach out to others.
Truism * Truism * Lost in Time * 2018
32
Open-mindedness
The introduction of the word “open-mindedness” made me think about the meaning of that word in the context of “building bridges between people”. Therefore I searched for definitions and compared these. Words that are highlighted are considered keywords in defining “open-mindedness”. “Open-mindedness is receptiveness to new ideas. It relates to the way in which people approach the views and knowledge of others, and incorporate the beliefs that others should be free to express their views and that the value of others’ knowledge should be recognized.” “Open-mindedness is the willingness to search actively for evidence against one’s favoured beliefs, plans or goals, and to weigh such evidence fairly when it is available. After considering various alternatives, an open-minded person can take a firm stand on a position and act accordingly.” “Open-mindedness is equated with positivity and growth. It helps us to take risks, find opportunities, understand others and manage uncertainty. We also see open-minded people as more generous and kind.” I feel that open-mindedness is a logical construct within my truism. Open-mindedness fits two of my keywords: ‘patience’ and ‘we-mentality’. Though I haven’t thought of open-mindedness earlier in the process, I feel that it is an important part of my fascination. When I think about it, I am mostly fascinated by time travel because I want to meet people from different time periods and know what their thoughts are on life. This is evident to open-mindedness and therefore included in my truism.
Open-mindedness * Lost in Time * 2018
33
Statement
Based on the truism, I formulated a statement of which is written in a predescribed fashion (action). Formulating a statement seemed very hard for me to do. I wrote down a few options (see dummy), and asked others for their opinions. The hardest thing about formulating a statement is that it has to be written in a predescribed fashion. The second hardest thing was think of a statement that is both meaningful and open for various interpretations. Ultimately I went for
“Be open to the unknown” I think this statement is more open to possibilities in comparison to other options. Additionally, it fits the fascination and truism very well. This statement indicates the open attitude people should have towards new things; opinions, places, people, objects, art, etc. When reading this statement, it might seem a little vague at first but it actually easily explained. In today’s society some tend to hold on what is recognizable for them since this gives a feeling of security and comfort. How often are we really open to something we don’t know (yet)? Perhaps on holiday, or during yout stay abroad. But why not also be open to the unknown in everyday life? In fewer words, this statement says to “stay curious”.

Concept
Lost in Time
36
At first, the idea for “Lost in Time” would be as an attraction in a themepark. The idea was as followed: “An attraction in a theme park where visitors are standing in four different rows at the entrance, and a person from each row is put together to enter the attraction. Most of the time, the group is made up of visitors who are strangers to each other. They are lead to a room in which they have to work together to find a missing piece from a time machine. Once the time machine is fully assembled, they choose a time period to travel to on a screen. The visitors enter the time machine and they come out NOT in the chosen era (another room) but in a random time era. This is when they are “lost in time”. The visitors are presented rides/vehicles from that time era (e.g. penny farthing, 70’s Mustang car, etc) and explore this time period by “driving through this room” (simulation). Afterwards they hop off and find the exit – a time machine at the end of the room – and return to the present once they leave the attraction”. I received feedback from other students and decided to change a few things in the first concept idea. Things to implement in concept: * attraction or experience that travels from city to another city, not linited in one spot (themepark) * “a time machine” or device that enables a similar experience to real time travelling Things I left out of the concept: * different rooms * themepark * vehicles This resulted in the following (improved) concept: “A once-in-a-lifetime-experience where visitors are invited to ‘travel through time’. Four strangers are wired to a simulator device. In the simulation they team up to find the missing piece of the time machine by collaborating together. Once the time machine is fully assembled, they get to choose a time period to which the group want to travel to. Yet, they will end up in a different time period than the one they chose. This is when they are “lost in time”. After having spend some time in this particular time period (meeting people, eating food, joining activities) they are disconnected from the simulator and return to the present - or reality.” The participants would feel like they have been away for 12 hours, but in reality they have been in the simulation for only 10 minutes. After those 10 minutes they return to reality and leave with an unforgettable experience of having seen the past - or possible future. Lost in Time * Critical Stage * Lost in Time * 2018
37
Creativity Canvas
In order for this concept to be well-received among the customers, a more thorough research is done with regard to the design of “Lost in Time”. This is done using the ‘Creative Canvas’ tool designed by Chris Gibling and Monique Zijp (based on the Business Model Canvas). First, I will highlight the relationship between de customer and this concept by expressing what kinds of emotions “Lost in Time” has to evoke with the target group. Second, a more detailed image of the target group is to be described in the ‘target group’ chapter. Third, a list of key activities is made based on things to do before implementation. Followed by an estimated evaluation of all the needed goods and services, and estimated revenue streams of this concept. Customer Relationship The goal of this concept is to welcome people and encourage participation and interaction. It can be also seen as a small social experiment whereby the concept ‘tests’ whether people are willing to work together with strangers. Participants feel amused when leaving returning to their lives, since it is a unique experience. They met new people, got a glimpse of how time travel could be like, and are exposed to a new sort of immersive (simulation) technology. Target group The target group consists of visitors to the annual fair or ‘nomadic attraction park’. Since the concept uses a new sort of technology, risks are better avoided. So, children under the age of 18 years cannot participate, as well as people who suffer from mental diseases and/or have heart issues. The rest of the population is welcome to participate in this experience; college students, grandparents, gays, muslims, housewives, etc. As is mentioned before, the length of the experience is 10 minutes, but in the simulation the participants will feel as if they are in there for about half a day. This will give them enough time to explore a time period without having to get ‘homesick’. Concept idea: Lost in Time * Creativity Canvas * Lost in Time * 2018
38
“Lost in Time” will stay at one spot for one day, then it ‘vanishes’ (moves on to another spot). Key activities The most important thing to do is to do continuous research and development in the works of simulation and technology. The last thing that I would have want to happen, is that something goes wrong due to technological problems. That’s why continuous tests and research needs to be done. There is also a supervisor present during the experience who will monitor the condition of the participant. Another thing is to start a funding in order to raise money for the expensive technology. Might have to close a deal with major distribution centres to hang posters of ‘time travel’ films (promotion). Also, arranging permits in every city where “Lost in Time” will stand. And setting up contracts for legal reasons. Cost structure In preparation for this concept to succeed there are a lot of ‘ingredients’ needed. A list of what is needed: * (technological) parts for time machine and simulation * people; supervisors, research & development, engineers/technicians, host, medical team, design * money (funding, loans) * time, a lot of time; planning, r&d, moving from one city to another In the run-up of the first appearance of “Lost in Time”, there is (ironically) a lot of time needed to get this off the ground. But I think, when the team is focused and be patient, that this concept will be the most innovative experience so far! Communication and distribution Since we will be moving around the country, people have to stumble upon it accidentally. This is fine since this keeps the concept’s ‘mysterious vibe’. “Lost in Time” will have its own website, but no social media channels. People who want to share their experiences can leave a message on the website. The aim of this concept is not per se to make a big profit, but rather give people something to take with them forever. Although it is not possible to take pictures of their adventures in the simulation, they will capture it in their heads. Concept idea: Lost in Time * Creativity Canvas * Lost in Time * 2018
39
Revenue streams To me, I would like to see people leaving the experience with a smile on their faces. Their participation is already a great accomplishment to me. Their experiences in the simulation are valuable data to use in future improvements of the concept. This would give me satisfaction since it is something totally brand new, that doesn’t exist (yet!). The combination of science (reality) and time travel (imagination) is a golden fusion; it makes it seems so much more tangible and I would enjoy inventing something like that. Whether it will be a success that brings a lot of profit, depends on the people; but that is not the revenue I’m striving to achieve primarily.

This device is meant to be put on the participant’s head in order for the sequence of the simulation to reach the brain. Once this is accomplished, the participant sees images that are simulated via the brain. For him/her it would feel as if the person is actually experiencing everything he/she is doing in the simulation. It is totally safe and painless for participants to use this simulator since it has been tested in several rounds. This 3d object is merely a prototype made of cardboard and metal; the production of the real simulation devices are postponed until the prototypes doesn’t show any errors anymore. A supervisor will be responsible for putting these devices on and off and also monitor the well-being of the participants during the simulation. This device measures the participant’s vital and mental condition during the simulation. The design of the simulation device is simple, yet sophisticated. It has to fit the future design of technology; sleek without too many decorations and easy to use. It is remarkable that with this device we are able to “travel in time” while this might also be the new ‘future television’.

Research in 4 domains of Reality
What? Research in 4 domains of Reality helped me to look at my fascination and keywords from different aspects within reality: high culture, popular culture, art sources and my personal interpretation. This research method helped me to find images that suits my fascination, but also fit my fascination to certain images I found. Though the research consumed a lot of time, I think it was very valuable work. With each domain I tried to find fitting images to tell what a particular word meant to me. So What? Now, the keywords and fascination have their own meaning that I connected to them. I think this is a big milestone in the process of developing my concept since it adds personal meaning; a deeper layer. The search for images was fun to do and I like collecting them and find meaning regarding the keywords and fascination. Now What? Some images inspired me further in the process, for example the picture of ‘Alice in Wonderland’ within the scope of the keyword ‘adventure’. This image adds another layer to adventure; it also represents “meeting new people” and “using your imagination”. From this point, I saw those two components as being inseparable from adventure.

Creativity Canvas
What? By using three creativty canvasses I came up with three different ideas for possible concepts related to my fascination. This was not an easy task for me to do, since I feel that the transition from converging ideas, images and meaning to coming up with clear, sophisticated concepts was too big. Ultimately I chose the first concept idea (“Lost in Time”) to develop further in the critical stage. So What? The creativity canvas was a useful tool and a burden to work with at the same time. The usage of this tool was not very clear to me, and seemed too abstract. I am not sure if I used it properly and therefore added a short ‘story’ to explain my concept ideas a little bit better. I think the information from the creativity canvas was not sufficient enough to “sell the concept” so to speak. Now What? One thing that the creativity canvas was most useful for was the concept of thinking in verbs to describe outcomes of the concept or the relationship with the customer. I think that increased the value of my concept since it made me think about what I want the target group to feel after they have experienced “Lost in Time”.

Five Dispositions Model
What? I filled out this model in the week 1, 4 and 6, and I was very surprised to see I started off being very “uncreative”. I think I must have been in a rational, serious mindset from the first half of the semester. But I have to admit that in the last couple of weeks there have been a huge change on that level. Of course, this was due to me spending more time on this assignment compared to the first two weeks. So What? I think it is an interesting tool to measure one’s creative abilities but I don’t feel that this is sufficient enough to tell whether one has really made any progress. I coud have started trying to do my best earlier on in the process, in order for it not to show a drastic change between week 1 and week 6. Unfortunately, it didn’t go that way. Now What? Probably, what I can learn from this is that I need to plan more efficiently and not postpone tasks up until the very last minute. I feel that this model shows a realistic progress of developing my abilities. Also, it makes me think about the different creative skills that it asks of me, such as “challenging assumptions”, “tolerating uncertainty”, and “sharing the product”. Some of them I would not think that is necessary, so I was surprised to see that.
