This design competition proposal aims to provide the residents of Breezy Point, NJ with a house in harmony and not opposition with the forces of Nature. The expressive roof canopy follows a logic of sand dunes.
Resliency: strong yet transformable. Energy: solar power, compact design, passive cooling, repurposed materials.

process / richard rozewski Design Process Statement Through a shared technical, conceptual, and theoretical framework, I am interested in the intersections of design, environmental psychology, social impact, and historical context. In my creative research I explore themes of scale, adaptive reuse, material speculation, human centered design, and the philosophies of aesthetics.

Breezy Point House aims to provide the resident of Breezy Point with a house in harmony and not opposition with formidable forces of Nature. The secure indoor enclosure of re-purposed shipping containers is held gracefully aloft a continuous public landscape connecting street and bay, while the expressive roof canopy follows a logic of sand dunes, gradually dissipating the winds, shedding rainwater, and supporting solar cells on the south facing facets.

RVA.TS1 is a radical re-envisioning of a 19th century trolley barn warehouse building in Richmond’s Fan historic district into a boutique hotel focused on wellness. Highlighting elements of the original fabric and providing opportunities to display dramatic, large-scale contemporary art. The most significant of our transformations is a two-story atrium cut through the center of the buildings. The atrium provides natural light for interior-facing guest rooms and culminates in a grand restaurant and event space on the highest level of the building.

use / bike parking type / summer studio course / parsons school of design location / new york, ny date / summer 2010
The purpose of this project was to create a transit hub for bike commuters and biking tourists around the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan. The facade is a result of a series of material explorations and primarily serves as an extension of the Highline Park. The main portion of programming is bike parking which is housed in multi level blocks connected by a series of ramps. Dualism in materiality is a primary investigation within the project; the site becomes part of the park by using vegetation as its cladding.
