love at rst sight Congratulations! You’re engaged and h o p e f u l ly we l l o n t h e way t o preparing a wedding day that is exactly what you have always hoped it would be. Planning a wedding can be a lot of fun, but it can also be challenging at times. We hope that the information on these pages makes your planning just that little bit easier. Of course most of the information in this booklet is photography related, however this isn’t meant to be a sales tool. We won’t hard-sell you into anything and we understand that our products and services may not be for everyone... and that’s OK! It is more important to us that you nd a photographer you bond with and whose work you love, rather than trying to force our services upon you. Regardless of who you choose to capture your wedding, we hope that the information within these pages is helpful during the planning of your special day. Of course if you are interested in our services then please feel free to

contact us at anytime. We’d love to discuss your plans and ideas and we are more than happy to assist in anyway we can. We are based in the gorgeous Byron Bay hinterland village of Bangalow, and regularly work around Northern NSW and South East Queenland. Our studio is just 90 minutes south of Brisbane and about 12 minutes outside of Byron Bay. If you need a photographer outside of this area, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We often travel interstate and have just recently star ted shooting international weddings. Choosing your wedding photographer is a decision that shouldn’t be treated lightly. After your wedding, your images and your album are going to be the only true keepsakes from your magical day, so be sure to choose wisely. Every couple is unique, just as every photographer is unique, so ensure you choose a photographer that shares your vision and sense of style. So whether you are organising a small, intimate gathering or an extravagant event with a cast of hundreds, we tr ust it all r uns smoothly and wish you the very best for your wedding day.

making the most of your engagement session We like to include a complimentary engagement session with each of our packages for a couple of reasons. Firstly, it gives us another excuse to get out in this beautiful part of the c o u n t r y a n d m a k e g o rg e o u s portraits of fun couples. Secondly, and more importantly, it gives us all a chance to get to know one another. Yo u h a ve a n o p p o r t u n i t y t o experience what it is like in front of the lens and we get to understand what type of portraits are important to you. These are all things that are best not left until your wedding day. During your session, you will also get to know your photographer on a more personal level which can be just as important as the quality of the images they produce. Remember, your photographer is generally the only wedding supplier who will be with you for the entire day. From the hair and make-up preparations, right through to your wedding reception, you and your photographer will be spending a lot of time together, so you want to make

sure they are the type of person you want along for the ride. Leading up to your wedding, you may also nd that it is very handy to have current, professional portraits of the two of you as a couple. These images can be used on ‘save-thed a t e ’ c a rd s o r yo u r we d d i n g invitations. Some people like to have a large portrait at the entrance to their reception, or for the ultimate keepsake, some of our packages include beautiful custom Guest Books. Our Guest Books include images from your engagement session and also enough white space for your guests to leave their own heartfelt messages on your special day. They come with an extensive selection of cover fabrics and feature the same museum quality, ne art paper as your wedding album. So, when planning what you would like from your photographer, don’t forget about our complimentary engagement sessions and try to book as early as you can. The earlier we s h o o t yo u r engagement session, the longer you’ll have to plan just what you’d like to use your images for.

byron bay & her beautiful surrounds There is simply no denying that Byron Bay and her beautiful surrounding communities hold some of the most stunning and picturesque locations in all of Australia. From the golden sands of the surf beaches to the evergreen foliage of the hinterland, the Northern Rivers district certainly has no shortage of n a t u ra l b a c k d ro p s f o r yo u r wedding. When thinking of the type of wedding portraits you would like, try matching location with your personality. If you are a couple who love the beach, then the coastline from Kingscliff to Ballina is simply one of the best stretches of beach on the planet. If you are more of a country couple, then the Byron hinterland region, and even further a eld, has a multitude of rustic dairy sheds on rolling hills, or private little streams nestled next to enormous g trees that all make for amazing photo opportunities. If a more urban approach is what you are after, then the region also has

many moder n buildings or interesting back alleys that can add a great deal of variety to your wedding album. The options are plentiful and there is something for every taste. Many couples nd choosing one style of location dif cult which is one of the reasons the Northern Rivers region is a great backdrop

for your wedding... everything is just so close. You can be in a very country setting one moment and then just ten minutes later, be kicking up sand on our gorgeous beaches. Whatever you choose, speak with your photographer before you lock in times for your ceremony and reception. Your photographer will

know how long you need at each location and how long it takes to travel between spots. You’ll want to ensure you have enough time to capture images you’ll want to pass down to your kids, but you also don’t want to keep your guests waiting too long for their dinner.

involve your photographer in your planning It’s obvious that your photographer is the person to turn to when you want to discuss locations for photos, but have you thought about how else you could bene t from the wealth of knowledge your photographer possesses? A good photographer will scout every venue and location long before your wedding and will be able to offer advice on a whole host of things. They will know what time the sun will set on your wedding day and as such, will be able to let you know when the best time for your location photos will be, and working backwards, will be able to suggest the best time to start your ceremony. They will be familiar with local traf c and will know how long it should take to get from location to location. They will also be aware of the time of high tide and low tide and whether this will hinder on plans to shoot in certain locations. Some suppliers, when setting up your wedding may have you facing into the sun, thinking this will create a better photo. Sadly all this will do is cause

you to squint in every one of the images that your family will be looking at for generations. This is your big day! Your wedding! And for most people, this will be the rst time planning anything like this. You don’t have to do it alone. Your photographer is the only wedding supplier that will be with you for the entire day. They have also spent entire days with many brides before you, so they know better than many people, how every aspect of your day will run. Use this knowledge. Ask their advice. If you are having a styled wedding, inform your photographer of your plans so they are aware before they arrive on the day. Some styling may spark your photographer’s creative imagination as soon as they hear of your plans... long before the actual day. This may also ow over into the design and style of your album. Online tools such as Pinterest are invaluable for collecting images that resemble what you are planning for your wedding and then being able to share them with your photographer. As photographers we are creatives, we are artists and our goal is to create the most amazing images you could ever imagine, in the style you love. Involve us in your planning to ensure we can help see your vision through to the nal product.

pulling the plug on your wedding In this technological world that we live in, virtually everyone carries with them some form of device for capturing photos or videos. This can be great for so many occasions, but when it comes to your wedding day, this truly can become a hindrance. Search online for ‘unplugged weddings’ and you will nd dozens, possibly hundreds of horror stories of how guests have spoilt a couples ceremony by being a little over-zelous with their cameras or smartphones. Not only are most of your guests going to be untrained and unskilled photographers, capturing low quality ‘snapshots’ but in doing so they may well destroy what would have been a perfect image by your professional photographer. Heads and arms popping up during your ceremony or iPads waving in the air generally aren’t what you want to see in the images or videos you receive from your professional suppliers. While your guests are focussing on trying to capture a good photo or video, they are missing the very thing they were invited along for... to enjoy the most important moment of your life!

Of course what you want on your wedding day is entirely up to you and you may not mind if your guests are dgeting and snapping away while you’re reading your vows. If this does concern you however, then I would strongly suggest asking your guests to turn off their phones and cameras during the ceremony and focus their attention on the true purpose of the gathering. This is not to say that they have to keep their devices holstered for the entire day. After the ceremony when your family and guests are mingling and many are catching up for the rst time in a very long time, then of course they should all be capturing the moment as best they can. The reception is also a great time for your guests to be capturing a lot of candid shots. I know how hard it can be to attend a wedding and not be taking photos. As a wedding photographer, I truly feel out of place sitting and enjoying the ceremony instead of running around trying to capture the event. On the rare occasion when I do get to attend a wedding as a guest I leave my cameras in the car to avoid temptation. And on these occasions, I have left the ceremony feeling as though I have truly been touched by the love of the couple. Your wedding is a beautiful moment. It deserves the undivided attention of all your guests.

the profession of wedding photography Photography is an art-form practiced and enjoyed by many and I am so thankful that I get to spend my days working in a eld I truly love. As the tools of the photographic trade become more attainable for many people, the industry has seen a huge in ux of so-called professionals setting up a website and facebook page and calling themselves a professional business. In Australia, the AIPP (Australian Institute of Professional Photographers) is the industry’s governing body that ensures all members are trained, educated and skilled. R e g a rd l e s s o f w h o y o u a re considering to use to shoot your wedding, please ensure they are a fully accredited member of the AIPP. The AIPP ensures members run their bu s i n e s s e s i n a n e t h i c a l a n d professional manner and deliver to yo u t h e u l t i m a t e c u s t o m e r experience. To gain membership, you must have been working for a minimum of two years, prove that you abide by the associations code of

ethics and have a body of work worthy of professional status. Each year, AIPP members must attend a certain number of seminars o r wo rk s h o p s t o re t a i n t h e i r membership. This ensures that all members are continually improving their skillset and staying abreast of new tools, products and techniques available to photographers I have been working fulltime now in this profession for several years and h ave b e e n a f u l ly a c c re d i t e d member of the AIPP for the past four years. Each year the AIPP holds state and national print awards and although I have been a member for many years, 2013 was the rst time I had taken the time to enter the awards. I am very proud to say that I won awards at both state and national level in the wedding category and am now very eager to continue improving and pushing myself to create the very best images I can.

choosing the right investment The internet is full of stories of brides who wish they had invested just a little more in the photography for their special day... in fact, it sits on top of many online post-wedding regret polls. If none of these really suit what you were ultimately hoping for, let us know and we’ll do our best to put together a custom package that includes everything your heart desires. At the end of the day, we just want you to have images you love in the format you choose, that will live on and let you experience the most important day of your life over and over again.

understanding our process How does the whole process work and what can you expect from us?

Before your wedding... Once you have decided you would like to use our services for your wedding, a $500 deposit is required to secure the date. You will then be sent a link to an online form where you can enter all of the relevant details for your contract. A copy of the contract will then be sent to you for signing. Once we receive your contract, it will be countersigned and a copy returned to you for your records. At around this time, if logistically possible, we will schedule a meeting where you will be able to view our full range of albums and decide which package you would like for your wedding. We will also discuss what is important to you regarding your wedding photography and what may not be so important. All of our packages include a complimentary engagement session. We will schedule this for as early as possible so that you will be able to use the images in one of our custom Guest Books or on Save-theDate cards etc. This is essentially a

t r i a l - r u n w h e re yo u g e t t o experience what it is like in front of the camera and we get to learn more about the type of photography you want for your wedding. From this point, if you have chosen a package with the guest book, the album will be laid out and once approved, sent off for printing. You will receive the printed book once the outstanding balance for your we d d i n g p a c k a g e h a s b e e n received. T he balance for all packages is due 30 days prior to your wedding.

After your wedding... Usually within a week after your wedding, a number of images will be posted to our blog so you can have a ‘sneak peek’ at what to expect. Within a few weeks you will receive a USB device with all of your proof images. The proof images will need to be sorted into ‘Yes’, ‘No’ or ‘Maybe’ folders and from there, we will start the design process on your album. A typical album involves upwards of 20 hours to design and layout, so depending on the current workload at the time, you s h o u l d re c e i ve yo u r album proof within 8-12 weeks. We endeavor to deliver

with memories you will treasure for a lifetime.

the best representation of your day with our design and sometimes this will require more pages than what was included in your package. There is absolutely no obligation to purchase additional pages although you certainly can if you choose to.

Once the design has been nalised, all you need to do is choose the type of cover you want and whether you would like options such as embossing.

At this point you can choose to remove pages, swap images or design elements around etc. We just want you to have an album that you love lled

Your album will then be ordered and within a few weeks you will have the most beautiful account of your wedding...Your Wedding Album.
