Calligraphy is a very beautiful artform, where very thin and delicate lines can be created. Overlaping and playing around with calligraphy, the possibilities are endless. Personally calligraphy reminds me of flower forms, as their very free and delicate, same qualities of most flowers.

Not Just Fleurons: Physical Properties Reproduction
Nectar
Inside the blossom of a flower is the reproductive organs of the flower. The petals enclose a pistil, stamen or sometimes both. The petals protect the reproductive parts from outside interferences. Some varieties of flower may fertilize themselves, but often they will need the help of outside forces (commonly insects and birds) to pollinate or fertilize.
Flowers contain nectar deep in the cup of their blossom. Nectar is rich in nutrients, and the smell of it attracts birds and insects to come and feed on it. When these creatures drink the nectar in a flower, pollen will attach itself to them. As these animals move from flower to flower, the pollen (similar to semen in humans) will rub off on other flowers and fertilize them.

The most notable part of a flower is the blossom. The blossom is often a showy, colorful collection of petals that grows at the top of a stem. Often the blossom emits a pleasant aroma unique to each type of flower. Blossoms are often the parts of flowers that people are most concerned with due to their pleasing aspects.
All flowers, and all plants in general, have roots. The roots of the flower (or of the larger plant which the flower may grow from in some cases) anchor it to the soil, as well as absorb water and nutrients from the earth. Like any other plant, the roots act as a combination of a foundation and “mouth� to absorb needed nutrients.
All flowers have a stem, no matter how small the flower. A stem is a stalk that attaches the blossom at one end to the roots at the other end. Through the stem passes water and energy to keep the blossoms healthy, and to provide nutrients for the reproductive process when it begins.

Kew Gardens Kew gardens is a very tranquil and beautiful place as it’s infested with the wildest yet healthiest flowers. I was amazed with the range of different plants i saw. From texture to colour the range was immense.

The rose being the most popular and colour variety, you can see how much colour can make a difference to the meaning. The way a flower is given is also part of the message too, for instance giveing a rose upside down means the opposite.

How do people buy flowers: The UK fresh cut flower and indoor plant market is worth ÂŁ2.2 billion at retail level. To put this in perspective, the UK music industry is worth around ÂŁ2 billion.
Around 60% of the £2.2 billion spent represents people buying flowers and plants for themselves, for their own homes. Why should they be saved for special occasions only? Poeple use gardens alot more now.
This represents an average spend per person per year of £36 (£28 on flowers and £8 on plants). In the UK we spend £9 on cut flowers for every £1 we spend on indoor plants.

Flower-Pedia This book will be available to the public but mostly flower shops and stalls in particular. The idea is for this to act as a guide to customers when selecting flowers for whatever occasions their buying for. Staff members can also use this book for reference when selling, and can recommend certain flowers to customers. It will be sectioned by occasion, for example the first chapter is for when buying flowers for romance or an anniversary.

This idea has come from looking at the meanings of flowers. As most people don’t know the meanings of each flower, i think this is an interesting fact that people would love to know. This initial design is a concertina fold, with a flower pattern on the front, where you can customize your message depending on whom you’re sending the bouquet to. On the reverse side are all the flowers in the bouquet, individually laid out with the meaning of that particular flower.

Customers should want to pay more for better designs, and in return they get a well made tag, customized message and the meanings of every flower purchased in their bouquet.

Tag Integration with Marks and Spencers
This is an example of how the tags would integrate into a flower website. Marks and Spencer’s is well known for their flower services, and have chosen this for an example. Once the customer has clicked on a bouquet of flowers they are interested in, it goes to a close up of the flowers with a description along the side. Underneath is where you can add to basket, and add other items, which is where my product will be advertised. All a customer would need to do is click the checkbox to include this within the purchase, and they can customize the message to give to whomever they want.

These tags will be able to intergrate into any flower shop, the concept of having the meaning of each flower should encourage them to sell them on their websites as the meaning of the flowers is what is actually important as its the product your buying.
