HER STYLE
THE DESIGNER DENTIST
Danielle Masserman’s bright, joyful ensembles will put a smile on anyone’s face

Born and raised in Scottsdale, Danielle Masserman spends most days at her pediatric dental practice, Affiliated Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics. But when she ditches her dentist uniform, it’s all about stylish yet functional outfits. Brands like Rails, Cloth & Stone, and Madewell are among her favorites for the hot Arizona summer, and she depends on Frame or Mother jeans throughout the cooler months. “I also love a good pair of Golden Goose sneakers – they add a fun element to any outfit,” the mom of two boys says. Masserman loves to make a statement, often opting for a chic animal print or wearing pops of color, like pink or yellow. “A trend I like is wearing a shirt tucked in the front or a bodysuit with jeans and a nice large logo belt,” Masserman says. “It’s always great to invest in a few accessories as well, like a trendy hat or headband – small things that can really elevate a basic outfit.” A fan of athleisure wear, Masserman stocks her closet with a variety of fun Nike and Adidas sneakers. “Colorful and animal print sneakers transition well to the weekend as they make my athleisure a little more interesting,” she says.
What is one must-have item in your closet? A simple black cocktail dress that I can accessorize with different shoes or bags to change the look but wear multiple times.
How do you transition your look from day to night? Full outfit change after a shower. Due to the pandemic, we wear scrubs and head cover but scrubs have come a long way. Figs is an amazing scrubs brand and I feel great in my scrubs – the bottoms are a fitted jogger style and the top is also fitted. Blue Sky Scrubs has cute and trendy hats.
How has the pandemic affected your style? As we have started to go out more, it has been nice to give my closet a refresh with flowy floral dresses. It has made me realize that I should invest in classic pieces like nice belts, bags, shoes, and jeans that are neutral.
Mark Grossman hits the gas on his acting career as The Young and the Restless’ antihero Adam NewmanThe Ride of a Lifetime
me
Soon after Mark Grossman moved to Scottsdale in the mid-1990s, he met his first true love: a dirt bike. “A friend had a quad, which we used to explore all the great desert trails,” says Grossman, a Maryland native who moved here in third grade from Illinois. “Eventually, we got so into it that we decided to visit a real racetrack near Wickenburg with all sorts of motor sports, and I was immediately transfixed by dirt bike racing.” Though only about 10 at the time, Grossman begged his parents for his own dirt bike. After what felt like a solid year of pleading and producing report cards littered with A’s and B’s, he got his wish. “After that, with the exception of taking part in chorus and a few school plays, riding – and eventually racing – became my life,” says Grossman, who was known during his four years at Cactus Shadows High School for landing in the hospital annually, sometimes biannually, as a result of biking mishaps. Grossman poured blood, sweat and tears – quite literally all three as he broke no less than six bones and bruised a dozen or so ribs while racing throughout high school – into his bike. He also invested nearly every penny he earned working at his afterschool jobs (first at Harold’s Cave Creek Corral and later at Cold Stone Creamery and then Barro’s Pizza) into gear, gas, entry fees and medical bills to keep up with his expensive hobby. “When I have a passion, I tend go at it 100 miles an hour,” Grossman says. “I, unfortunately, knew in my heart I just wasn’t at the level it took to make it professionally.”
Switching Gears
After graduating Cactus Shadows in 2005 and continuing his education at Paradise Valley Community College, Grossman was at a crossroads – sadly one without professional dirt bike riding roads. He weighed investing in additional schooling before making the move to get his insurance license, though he quickly found the career path was not a fit. In fact, he worried whatever desk job he found may never feed his soul. “What would be the seeds of my career as I know it today began in my 20s, when a friend was looking to get into fashion photography,” Grossman says. “I sat for him a few times and ended up sending the
resulting photos to the FORD/Robert Black Agency in Scottsdale during a casting call for new talent.” FORD/Robert Black signed Grossman in 2012, and he began going on local modeling auditions, earning several gigs along the way. Fairly early into the process, his team began sending him opportunities in the acting realm. “While I used to make short movies about dirt bike racing for my friends, being in front of the camera was a whole new world,” says Grossman, who until then had only acted in a few elementary school plays, and never on camera. “It took all of an hour into my first audition, which I funnily enough didn’t get, when I realized I’d found my second great love.” Always one to go full throttle, after some local film roles, notably a small part in Durant’s Never Closes loosely based on the life of Durant’s founder Eddie Durant and featuring Tom Sizemore and acclaimed The Young and the Restless actress Michelle Stafford, Grossman sold his dirt bike for gas money and moved to Los Angeles in 2013. He quickly learned that without a manager or agent, booking gigs in Hollywood was rough, so much so he slept on an air mattress in a studio apartment for a year and then came home to assess what to do next. “At first I was overwhelmed – and certainly a little disappointed,” Grossman says. “After a few months, I treated what felt like a setback in the way that I would treat getting into an accident on the track. I rested, regrouped and saved money to better equip myself for another go.”
Full Speed Ahead
Armed with a plan, and additional savings, Grossman moved back to Los Angeles in 2015 with a renewed sense of purpose. He also came armed with an agent this time around, thanks to said agent seeing him in an obscure horror movie called ABCs of Death 2 on Netflix. “It was sort of kismet. I knew securing an agent and/or manager would be my top priority after finding safe housing once back in LA,” Grossman says. “Out of nowhere, I got a call from an agent two weeks before I was set to move. Turns out, he initially
watched the movie – which I do not recommend – as he had a client in it, and he saw something in me.” The support helped push Grossman back to his usual 100 miles an hour, but this time in a far more strategic way. He would snag both modeling opportunities and small roles during his second time around in La-La Land, including a six-episode arc on Famous in Love on Freeform, before being asked to audition for a soap opera. “From casting to screen tests, I was feeling exceptionally good about the work I did to earn the part,” Grossman says. “But, I didn’t get it.” Because he had been through the process, however, when the opportunity to audition for The Young and the Restless – the No. 1 daytime drama in the country for 30 years – Grossman approached each meeting and screen test a bit more relaxed. He was asked to test with multiple stars of the show. Funny enough, while he did not test with the aforementioned Stafford in her role as Phyllis Summers, he did test multiple times with fellow Daytime Emmy Award winner Sharon Case’s character, Sharon Newman, Summers’ chief rival for the better part of 20 years. Perhaps even funnier, he had no idea the role for which he was auditioning as the casting department kept it under wraps throughout the entire process. “Turns out, it was the role of a lifetime, and I got it,” Grossman says. In May 2019, Grossman made his first appearance on The Young and the Restless as the often-devious, always-entertaining Adam Newman, which was last played by Justin Hartley. “All of the actors who’ve played Adam – who many think of as an antihero of sorts on the show – were hugely popular, and I’ve had some pretty big shoes to fill in the hearts and minds of our fans,” Grossman says. Now with just over two years under his belt, and a 2020 Daytime Emmy nomination for his work, Grossman is feeling more at ease with both the fast-paced environment of daytime television and his growing fame. Despite COVID-19, he has also been able to come back to the Valley a bit, most recently taking his mom to Sicilian Butcher and finally visiting Durant’s in person. “I know, I know. It is crazy that it took me so long to visit the restaurant that in an odd way helped jump-start my career,” Grossman says. “The steak was perfect, by the way.” Looking ahead, Grossman is focused on continuing to win over both new and veteran soap opera fans with his portrayal of Newman. He also has his heart set on rekindling an old love. “I’ve had my eye on buying a dirt bike, wondering what it would be like to hop on after so many years,” Grossman says. “I know what they say about riding a bike and hoping the same applies to a motorized one.” He is also looking forward to more time here in the Valley. “Genoa City – my fictional residence on TV – is great. So is LA, but Arizona is and always will be home.”

A well-crafted ensemble is an art form that takes a keen eye. Here, five men share their takes on looking fashionable and how they dress to impress, no matter where the day leads.
Scott Conant
Chef and Restaurateur
Much like the perfect dish, a good outfit requires balance. For chef Scott Conant, this means pairing casual and luxurious elements, a philosophy that mirrors his affinity for cuisine that blurs the line between rustic and elevated. “In Italian, it’s called ‘sprezzatura’ – the art of making the elegant look easy. Even if an outfit is thrown together, it’s thrown together with intention.” He’s most often found in jeans and a well-pressed button-down (Ermenegildo Zegna is his time-honored favorite). Top it off with comfortable shoes and Conant is equipped for a day of taking his daughters to school and attending meetings at Mora Italian and The Americano. While he tends to reach for Jordans or cowboy boots most days, his shoe collection also includes footwear by Salvatore Ferragamo and Bruno Magli. And when he’s not traveling to film a show for Food Network – an occasion that often calls for a Zegna suit – Conant is usually in the kitchen, where he always reaches for one of his classic Bragard aprons. Of all his favorite meals to cook for his family – many of which are featured in his upcoming cookbook, available later this year – his mother’s cast-iron chicken with potatoes and onions is his go-to on a busy weeknight.
Demar Jackson
Program Director at The Madison
Growing up in Southern California imbued Demar Jackson – who you may recognize as a contestant on the last season of The Bachelorette – with a passion for practical style choices that experiment with colors and patterns. As a spin instructor at The Madison Scottsdale, Jackson can frequently be found in athleisure – quarter-zip pullovers and athletic shorts are typical, and a cup of coffee (or two, or three!) is a must for the early riser. Another essential? A nice pair of running shoes. Off the clock, Jackson – a supporter of the maxim that you can never have too many shoes – regularly reaches for a comfortable pair of Vans, an essential component of his quintessentially West Coast style. His first choice for grabbing dinner or drinks with friends is a neutral shirt with patterned pants from Zara, PacSun or H&M. A believer that fashion is an art that allows people to draw inspiration from those around them, Jackson hopes that his style choices, like everything else he does, will imbue others with a feeling of positivity and energy. And while his favorite accessories include his karma bracelet, a gold chain and mini hoop earrings, the most valuable thing Jackson owns can’t be found in his closet. “My most prized possession is my peace. It’s intangible, but it’s always going to be worth a lot.”

Jakob Chychrun
Arizona Coyotes Defenseman
For Jakob Chychrun, any outfit is really just an excuse to wear a great pair of shoes. The ice hockey player – who currently leads all NHL defensemen in goals after nearly 300 games with the Coyotes – has a shoe collection that would strike envy in the hearts of any sneakerhead, with a focus on limited-run collabs like Nike x Off-White. Other favorites include tried and true brands such as Gucci and Louis Vuitton, up-and-coming labels like John Geiger and a few well-loved pairs of Converse, but his most-worn pair – Air Jordan 1 Flights – puts a more modern spin on the classic high-top. For a night out, Chychrun often matches them with black jeans, a T-shirt and a bomber jacket, a simple yet refined look. Chychrun cites department stores like Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus as convenient one-stop shopping destinations, and before a game he enjoys showcasing his personality through a Hugo Boss suit from his extensive collection, which features a wide range of colors and patterns. “I like being a little different and wearing stuff that most guys wouldn’t usually wear. There are so many different tastes and trends, but it’s about what makes you feel good – confidence can make any outfit come together.”
Scott Pasmore
Good Morning Arizona Anchor
A familiar face to those who start their day with Good Morning Arizona, Scott Pasmore prefers clothing that’s as easygoing as he is, whether he’s reporting as a member of Arizona’s Family or hitting the green after work. While on-air, Pasmore’s go-to is a suit and tie with a squared-off pocket square and monk strap shoes or dress sneakers. He shops for suits at everywhere from Nordstrom to Nick’s Menswear, stating that while more expensive pieces have their place, you can often find something that looks good for a great deal. Pasmore cites an early obsession of his as his fashion inspiration – GQ Magazine. “I never missed an article or picture! Now, I watch what other guys are doing and go with what I think looks best on me without copying others.” When not working or dropping by the site of his latest housing project – Pasmore builds and remodels homes on the side – the seasoned pilot enjoys spending time at his airport hangar or on the golf course, where he always gravitates toward apparel by TravisMathew. And though the Kansas-raised farm boy loves anything and everything outdoors, there’s one thing Pasmore will never be seen wearing – cutoff shorts.
MOUNTAIN SHADOWS LOCATION:
Jae Crowder
Phoenix Suns Player
Star athlete Jae Crowder bases his fashion choices on how he feels on a given day. “My style is mood-based. I dress according to my vibe! It all depends on how I feel when I wake up.” But his two fashion rules never waver: always wear socks, and don’t mix navy blue and black. His look is also incomplete without a stylish toiletry bag for traveling, a pair of glasses and jewelry, typically a gold necklace and a watch from his prized collection. When he’s not sporting a Phoenix Suns uniform during game days, Crowder varies whether he dresses up or leans more casual depending on his destination. On off days, he prefers to spend time with family or relax by watching a movie or playing video games – a reflection of his desire to dress comfortably no matter what the occasion. Crowder’s no-stress approach to style is also evident in places he shops – he keeps an eye out for pieces from any brand, frequenting a variety of boutiques across the country like Patron of the New, The Webster and Maxfield. Crowder’s love of fashion also inspired him to start a company of his own, BO99MANN (www.bossmann.com), a comfortable streetwear brand launching later this year.

Commercial Broker Extraordinaire
Market knowledge is key to Bob Lundstedt’s success.
As a long time, Arizona resident and seasoned commercial real estate professional, Bob Lundstedt is experienced, talented, and an expert in the North Phoenix commercial real estate market. While he grew up in Chicago, Bob explains that his love for Arizona started at an early age. His older brother played for the Chicago Cubs and was in SCOTTSDALE during the spring for spring training. Bob and his family would take annual road trips to see him for Easter. Bob describes the lasting impact these trips had on him, stating, “At 12 years old, I had a paper route, and I was always checking the Arizona weather while rolling my papers, in anticipation of our trip. Upon our first arrival, I planted in my head; palm trees & mountains, I’m moving there someday.” Bob’s childhood dream became reality, and he has now been a valuable member of the community for several decades. Bob has been in the commercial real estate business since 1981 where he has focused his efforts exclusively in the I-17 Corridor and has represented tenants, users, investors, and landlords for Land, Office, and Industrial properties. He’s spent that time building an immensely successful career. He explains, “I have specialized in the I-17/ Deer Valley submarket for 40 years, completing land sales, building sales and leases for multiple product types varying from office, flex, industrial, storage & multi-family.” His experience in the Deer Valley market is one-of-a-kind, making his services even more valuable to clients as Deer Valley properties skyrocket in demand. Bob explains that with the number 1 busiest general aviation airport and several Fortune 500 companies in the area, Deer Valley has long been a desirable location. With the recent news that TSMC, the world’s largest computer chip manufacturer, has purchased over 1000 acres of land in the area and plan to build a multi-billion-dollar manufacturing plant, demand has gone up even more. Because of this, Bob has a straightforward, confident answer when asked what makes him a Man to Watch in Arizona. He states, “If you want to be in Deer Valley, you will be calling me. I have sold over 200 land sites with transactions in excess of $3 billion. It’s a very tight market, so my client relationships and market knowledge will be of great value.” Bob credits his family for motivating and inspiring him to achieve the success he has in his career. He has been married to his wife Michele for 31 years and has two children Lulu and Lawson. Outside of real estate, Bob is an active member of his community, and is involved in giving back through organizations such as Boys Team Charity as well as the Boy Scouts of America. Both Bob & Lawson have earned the highest rank of Eagle Scout. All in all, Bob Lundstedt is a long-time community member who offers unique skills and experience to his clients.

Strumming a New Chord
Dr. Goyle has created a first-of-its-kind medical practice.
Dr. Ashu Goyle treats acute and chronic pain using a multimodal approach. He blends traditional medical treatments with diet and lifestyle plans and alternative therapies to empower patients to achieve the best quality of life. Dr. Goyle’s practice, Integrated Spine, Pain, and Wellness combines cutting edge interventional treatments, and regenerative and aesthetic medicine in a community that is essentially opioid-free. Having witnessed how the opioid epidemic devastated families and communities, he is determined to provide effective non-narcotic treatments. At Integrated Spine, Pain, and Wellness, Dr. Goyle sees patients from a variety of lifestyles dealing with everything from sports injuries to normal wear and tear discomfort. His practice offers minimally invasive, non-surgical treatments while maintaining the goal of patients regaining prior levels of function. “My practice takes a fresh and comprehensive approach to helping people return to the healthy and active lifestyles they desire,” he shares. Modalities include minimally invasive spine and joint procedures, supplement testing and guidance, and diet and lifestyle counseling. Many of his patients come to him seeking alternatives to traditional medications and procedures. “I believe that when people are living with acute or chronic pain, they may lose a part of themselves and overtime this adversely affects their wellbeing and overall quality of life,” Goyle says. And Dr. Goyle is involved in treatment from start to finish with the exception of aesthetic treatments. But rest assured, he selected the best aesthetician, his wife, for those treatments. Afterall, when you look good, you feel good. Dr. Goyle treats patients as if they are family. He believes in developing long-term connections and it’s why he left corporate medicine to develop fresh, comprehensive individualized treatment plans for clients. “My passion for medicine grew out of my passion for music,” he says. The doctor taught himself to play guitar at only thirteen years old, having grown up with his parents exposing him and his sister to several different genres. While volunteering at a local hospital his freshman year of college, Dr. Goyle would play guitar for patients for several hours. For many patients, the small concerts provided a much-needed respite from intense treatments. “I believe in the healing power of music,” he shares. The Ohio native completed medical school in his home state; followed by residency and fellowship training at the world-renowned Cleveland Clinic. He received double board certification in Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine and now resides in Scottsdale with his biggest inspiration - his wife Nicolle, and their two very loved puppies.

Navigating the Pandemic U-Turn
Shahe Koulloukian — Mazvo Auto Car Care Center.
It’s been an unprecedented year, and the impact of the pandemic has affected nearly every business in some way. But for Shahe Koulloukian, owner of Mazvo Auto Car Care Center, that only strengthens his commitment to keeping customers educated. From staying on top of the latest technologies and trends in the auto industry to understanding how they affect consumer patterns, Koulloukian is firm in his belief that the more knowledgeable he is, the better he can assist — and empower — his clientele. In Mazvo’s 25 years of business, Koulloukian has seen many changes in the way people buy, drive, and care for their cars, but especially during the last year. “Covid-19 arrived like a head on crash that swept across the economy, causing what might turn out to be permanent changes in car ownership,” he says. The forced reliance on our Internet connections shifted our perception of what can feasibly be done via computer. “Everything got done online across the board; that major shift resulted in a big performance boost for technology and huge changes in behaviors have accelerated,” Koulloukian explains. Car buyers, he says, are now more than ever visiting dealerships and gaining information from the comfort of their couches. Used car sales are up substantially as people grapple with financial uncertainties. Automakers and dealerships are rolling out incredibly attractive deals and incentives to sell more new cars. And concern over the safety of ride-sharing and public transportation means that more people are preferring to use their own vehicles lately. It’s a whirlwind, but even despite the sweeping changes brought about by Covid-19, some things remain consistent: namely, Mazvo’s cornerstone philosophies of ethics, transparency, accountability, and quality. Upon these things, Koulloukian has built Mazvo’s rock-solid reputation as the Valley’s premier provider of not only auto care and maintenance, but empowerment as well. Koulloukian feels a deep-rooted responsibility to be honest and forthright with his customers, encouraging them to learn about their vehicles by asking questions — and telling them exactly what they need to know, in terms that even an automotive novice can understand. He sees himself as a consumer advocate rather than the stereotypical predatorial mechanic, and is determined to change the perception around “shady” car repair businesses through education, no matter what the pandemic throws at his industry. Helping Mazvo’s customers navigate both the ins and outs of their vehicles and the inevitable industry changes is an incredibly valuable service. Koulloukian’s work involves so much more than ensuring vehicles are in proper working order. He doesn’t just want to fix cars, he wants to fix auto repair – and for his clients, knowledge is power.

Tackling Trends
Glo Medspa stays ahead of the curve.
Charles Small, Founder of Glo Medspa, combines innovative technology and years of working as a critical care nurse to offer a comprehensive menu of services from body contouring, to facials, lasers, and advanced cosmetic injectables. A long time Arizona resident, Charles became interested in a change of pace from his hospital days and wanted to focus his extensive expertise on further refining the modern medspa. He was introduced to Aesthetic Medicine by a friend and instantly fell in love with the field. As a Man to Watch, the forwardthinking professional has brought together a team of medical, beauty and wellness professionals that understand key drivers and motivation for their clientele. Providing personalized experiences, Charles and his team offer the latest advances for full face and body rejuvenation. Glo Medspa is an accomplished medical aesthetic spa and has won many accolades and awards including the Best of Scottsdale in 2020. Consistently ranking as one of the top providers in injectables, Botox, and several other areas, Glo Medspa is continually adding new treatments to their long list of services. With such a wide range of options, there is truly something for everyone. Those interested in a facial, for example, can choose from a foaming enzyme treatment facial, exfoliating clear skin facial, or photo facial just to name a few. When asked what he feels sets him apart from other similar businesses, Charles says, “In the world of aesthetic, I stay ahead of the curve in the latest trends.” A quick look at his current and upcoming ventures confirms this is the case and makes it clear that Charles is not only talented at his work, but is also a driven and inventive individual. For example, one new service that truly sets Glo Medspa apart from their competition is that they are one of the few places that offer QWO, an FDA approved cellulite treatment. Charles describes Qwo’s effectiveness by explaining: “The results are permanent, and may start to be seen even after the first treatment.” This sets QWO apart from the already scarce FDA approved treatments for cellulite, as many other current treatment routes are far more invasive or not as long lasting. Another new and exciting venture on the horizon from Charles is the “Glo Aesthetic Training” program- a program geared towards offering training for medical professionals such as doctors and nurses in injectables. Additionally, the program will offer training, advice, and tips on how to start and run a successful business. With all of these novel plans in process or upcoming, it would only make sense to ask Charles what motivates him. “Making people happy is a big motivation for me. I definitely have the best job ever,” he says.

Coverage with Care
Insurance Agent, Jeremy Mueller is there when you need him.
According to business owner and insurance agent Jeremy Mueller, “you are what you eat” doesn’t just apply to food. “What you feed your mind becomes you. If you feed your mind negatively, you will become negative,” the Scottsdale native believes. Mueller is a licensed insurance agent with State Farm. He owns and operates two agency locations. After twenty years in the business, he understands that insurance can be expensive and confusing and believes in providing all the affordable coverage a client needs while making the process smooth and easy to understand. And how does he make the insurance process easy? Simple; by educating the community. He is expanding into podcasts and other non-traditional resources to educate the wider Scottsdale community about their options. His business’s core products are auto, home, condo, renters, and life insurance. However, they also provide coverage for small businesses and Mueller is proud of his home state’s rapid growth over the past few decades. He considers himself lucky to live in such a premier destination city, and is eager to help new and longtime residents alike. “Whether you're a firsttime renter or a retiring homeowner, my agency is here to serve YOU in all stages of your life,” he shares. And he means it. “One of the things that sets us apart is the response time. In our world , when you need us, you really need us!” he says. When one client experienced a devastating house fire, Mueller beat the Red Cross to the scene. The Phoenix Fire Department’s Chief had never seen anything like it. “Being able to navigate some of life’s complexities at a time of need is a huge advantage we have,” Jeremy says. However, Mueller insists he doesn’t do it alone. “Without my team, the company would be nowhere near where we are at,” he says. The daily feedback of how his employees help clients motivates him. Naturally, you don’t have to look far to discover what impassions Jeremy Mueller; it’s his own community. Mueller was born and raised in Scottsdale and wouldn’t want to live anywhere else. He attended Brophy High School and then Barrett Honors College at Arizona State University. It was his father and grandfather whose work in insurance helped cultivate his own interest. As a father of two, Mueller wants to create the safest environment in which his kids can thrive. He is active with Streetlight USA, a charity dedicated to helping girls recover from sexual abuse and human trafficking. In his downtime, you’re likely find Mueller jamming out to 70s and 80s rock while working out, or browsing his collection of original comic book art.

When Serpa agrees to represent a client, he treats their home as if it were his own. “My wonderful clients are all unique and the homes they buy/sell are no different. I provide specific recommendations and strategies that are specific to the individual and home.” The guidance Serpa provides is always focused on what’s going to benefit his client the most. The advice he offers always comes from a place of integrity has proven to be a win-win for his both his clients and his company. “When people invest with me, they are investing with an agent who cares about their home,” he says. “I always do what’s needed to get the deal done and I routinely think of creative ways to accomplish our goal since we are equally invested in this journey.” Since most of his business comes from word-of-mouth referrals, Serpa wants to make each of his clients are so pleased by the efforts of his team that they continue to refer future business to him. Inspired by positive client testimonials, Serpa recognized early on that his business is only as good as the partners he works with. He carefully plans his professional partnerships with the very best in the industry and with people who exemplify the same spirit of enthusiasm and proficiency as him. “From my trusted transaction coordinator and office staff to my powerful title company, and proven list of home repair companies, my relationship with clients lasts long after the keys to the house are exchanged,” shares Serpa. For Serpa, Arizona is truly the place he calls home. “I feel fortunate to live in a state that offers so much opportunity for adventure and perfect weather yearround!” he says.

Gerrish MedEsthetics
Dr. Gerrish takes a 360-degree approach to cosmetic regenerative medicine.
Dr. Scott Gerrish of Gerrish MedEsthetics wants patients who are young at heart to have an outward appearance that reflects what’s inside. With a background in both medicine and engineering, as well as over 25 years of experience in providing non-invasive cosmetic treatments, Dr. Gerrish is determined to deliver the most outstanding results in a luxury spa environment. “Regenerative medicine restores the body’s natural healing processes at the cellular level,” Dr. Gerrish shares. “Age, pollutants, sun damage, stress, and genetics all disrupt the body’s natural regenerative processes.” At Gerrish MedEsthetics, he developed a nonsurgical, signature face and neck rejuvenation he calls The Silent Lift. “With advancements in technology and my Signature Treatment Plans, patients will experience outstanding, natural results without going under the knife,” he says. He also offers body contouring services that combine CoolSculpting ELITE and CoolTone. These processes target body fat without damaging the surrounding tissue, and stimulate muscles to firm the abdomen, thighs, and buttocks. His exclusive, multi-layered, multimodality hair rejuvenation treatment plan repairs blood vessels, promotes cell growth, decreases inflammation, and stimulates collagen production so patients can grow a healthy, lustrous head of hair. Botox hit the scene about 25 years ago, and patients have been demanding more non-invasive cosmetic procedures ever since. Dr. Gerrish understands that there is a real art that involves selecting the right tools from the toolbox rather than just a quick fix. He notes that while “hundreds of doctors have the same bottle of Botox in their office, the results are not equal.” And Dr. Gerrish believes in only using the highest quality equipment and medical compounds. His post-procedure protocol has reduced the recovery period from laser procedures by 60%. For his innovation and unwavering commitment to excellence, Gerrish MedEsthetics was selected as an Allergen Top 250 Practice, placing him in the top 1% of all of Allergen’s practices. He has also been recognized by the Lutronic Center of Excellence and the CoolSculpting 10,000 club. Baywatch star Gena Lee Nolin attests not only to his incredible skill as a doctor, but also his character. “He is so down to Earth, warm and real.” Unlike at many other practices, where patients don’t even meet the doctor running the spa, Dr. Gerrish sees patients daily. He is such a skilled doctor that, according to a 2018 study by the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, Dr. Gerrish out-performs other doctors by +400%. Celebrity praise is never a bad thing in the world of cosmetic medicine, but Dr. Gerrish finds inspiration close to home. He cites his wife Jodi, and their two children Jackson and Reagan as his daily inspirations.

DeFusco Law
Andrew DeFusco cares deeply about his clients and community.
For Andrew DeFusco, law is a family affair. Andrew and his wife Bryn are both attorneys who, in 2016, founded DeFusco Law, a referralbased personal injury law/wrongful death practice. The husband and wife duo pride themselves on not being a run-of-the-mill practice that pushes for a quick settlement, but instead provide empathy and closure to persons experiencing lifealtering injuries or grief after losing a loved one in a preventable accident. Andrew emphasizes that DeFusco Law is a referral-based practice and not high volume. He and Bryn take time to get to know clients in order to serve their legal needs in the most beneficial and personalized manner. They owe every client to the sparkling reputation they have garnered through past cases. Because their primary marketing technique is old-fashioned wordof-mouth, they thrive as a low-volume firm providing personalized service to clients often during the lowest point in their lives. Clients come to DeFusco Law with devastating injuries after accidents. Or, more tragically, the families of victims of fatal accidents come to their firm seeking justice. Andrew feels motivated by clients who have suffered life-altering injuries yet refuse to let the injuries define their future or prevent them from living a fulfilling life. He fondly recalls one client, who suffered a career-ending injury to her dominant arm, telling him, “This will not break me.” Andrew learned as a child to never give up. His parents divorced when he was a boy, and his mother worked as a legal secretary to provide for her five children. “As a child, my mother always told me that I could do whatever I wanted to do in life provided I was willing to put forth the effort,” he says. And the words define his practice to this day. He has distanced himself from what he describes as commercialized law, which means working harder to provide victims with the justice and closure they need to move forward, and live beyond the accident. As successful lawyers, Andrew and Bryn are dedicated to giving back. In 2018, they established the Scottsdale Unified School District Teacher Stipend Program, which each year provides at least ten teachers in the SUSD with a stipend of at least $300 for school supplies. So far, they have donated nearly $20,000 worth of supplies. They are also active in the charities Arizona Center for Law in Public Interest as well as the New Life Center Domestic Violence Shelter. His wife serves on the boards for both organizations. Passionate about public education, DeFusco Law also supports the Arizona Pet Project, Coronado High School PTSO, and NotMyKid, among others. In his free time, you’ll find Andrew riding his bicycle and spending time with family and friends at the piano bar in his home!

Concierge Mental Wellness
Innovation is at the core of Dr. Shaw’s practice.
Physician. Neuroscientist. American Board-Certified addictionologist and preventive medicine specialist. It’s evident from those qualifications alone that Dr. Christian Shaw is highly qualified, innovative, and experienced. After years of practicing addiction medicine, Dr. Shaw became frustrated with the limited medications available for treating individuals suffering from substance use disorders. Relying on his background in research and integrative medicine, he began performing patient case studies evaluating cannabidiol (CBD) as an alternative treatment for mental health disorders. Based on the success of his clinical research, Dr. Shaw co-founded REBEL MD, a cannabinoid therapeutics company offering patient tested, medical grade cannabinoid products as treatment options for mental and physical health conditions. As to date, Dr. Shaw has performed multiple patient case studies using CBD and other cannabinoids for management of opioid withdrawal, autoimmune disease, insomnia, depression, anxiety, and pain. We asked Dr. Shaw what his professional plans are for 2021. “COVID-19 has significantly contributed to increased mental health disorders, particularly addiction and depression. Many individuals that would benefit from receiving treatment have thus far decided not to pursue it. They either have grown accustomed to the comfort of staying home and self-medicating with drugs or alcohol, have highprofile public or professional reputations that require considerable confidentiality or simply do not want to engage in the interactive group dynamic used by conventional addiction and mental health treatment centers. To address this, I will be offering reservations to a limited and exclusive concierge addiction and mental wellness service specializing in treating patients within the comfort of their own home or desired confidential setting.” Dr. Shaw’s drive helping patients achieve recovery from addiction to reach mental wellness is evident in his professional educational background. In addition to his American Board of Preventive Medicine certifications in Public Health, General Preventive Medicine and Addiction Medicine, he received training for Integrative Medicine at the Andrew Weil Center and completed his PhD at the Montreal Neurological Institute and Hospital. His clinical training in several countries, including the United States, Canada, England, and South Africa, has provided him with a more global perspective on patient care and medical treatment options. In his own words, Dr. Shaw explains that “there is an increasing shift in patient mindset toward use of natural medicines in place of conventional pharmaceutical medications. To provide the best patient care experience and possible outcome, physicians must be open to using alternative and complementary medical treatments.”

Real Estate Rockstars
Peter Hall is the protégé of Real Estate power duo, Jack and Raul.
As the saying goes, Peter Hall gets by with a little help from his friends. The Bay Area native relocated to Scottsdale to study Urban and Regional Development at the University of Arizona, and in only four years has made quite the splash in the city’s real estate scene. Hall was working in condominium development when he took an opportunity to work directly with Jack Luciano and Raul Siqueiros. He started as Jack and Raul’s Executive Assistant, and has since elevated himself to Junior Partner within Jack & Raul “A Real Estate Group” thanks to his work ethic and loyalty. At J&R, the three men offer clients an elevated real estate experience. They describe themselves as “relationship powered and lifestyle inspired.” The partners dig deep into marketing techniques and closely analyze the demographics and psychographics of prospective buyers and sellers. The combination of social media marketing and buyer examination sets them apart from the competition. Hall’s goal is to match buyers from all over the world with the perfect luxury property for them. They use a simple three step method to create success for their clients: Analyze, Strategize, Execute. It’s worked tremendously in their favor. Not even five full months into the new 2021 year, they have already surpassed $30 Million in sales volume. And at 25 years old, Hall became the youngest real estate agent in Arizona to sell a listing representing the seller at a price point over $3.5 million. The three men are currently members of the exclusive REALM network, which includes only the best agents in the country. Additionally, Realty Executives has ranked them in the top 3 real estate teams in the world. However, Jack & Raul “A Real Estate Group” has an accepting, open minded approach. The men are unpretentious, and pride themselves on selling a lifestyle that’s inclusive of all communities special amenities and area highlights. They also consider the broker community their network rather than their competition, and in doing so extend their value and access for clients. “It takes a special kind of finesse to understand the mindset of buyers and sellers, architectural significance, market trends, and local hot spots that encompass the lifestyle we treasure here in Arizona,” Hall believes, “and we have that finesse.” Hall happily acknowledges the guidance of Jack and Raul as part of the foundation of his success, but he also owes it to his own grit and determination. Hall pursued his real estate license while still a junior in college, and has built his own book of success while collaborating with his partners. His eyes are on the future, with the short-term plan to double his business this year as he has every year before. “I am the prodigy of two extremely notable agents in the Paradise Valley and Scottsdale markets and my goal is to become one of the most successful agents in Arizona, in the luxury market, by the time I’m 30,” he shares.

The Paleo Cardiologist
Dr. Jack Wolfson’s goal is to bring heart health naturally to the world.
Dr. Jack Wolfson is a board-certified cardiologist and author of The Paleo Cardiologist: The Natural Way to Heart Health. The bestselling author and Midwest native arrived in Arizona in 2002 and established his own medical practice after 10 years working in hospitals. Wolfson founded Natural Heart Doctor, where he takes a 21st century approach to holistic medicine. “Heart disease can be prevented, treated and reversed naturally without medications and surgeries,” he says. Heart attacks, strokes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol can all be helped naturally. Pharmaceuticals are not the answer, according to Dr. Wolfson. “Not many doctors provide the quality of care that I do. Most are stuck in the “pill and procedure” paradigm of sickness care,” Wolfson shares. Heart health, he insists, is achieved with good nutrition, quality sleep, outdoor physical activity, and a positive mental attitude. With the help of a diverse team of doctors, nutritionists and coaches who practice holistic care, Dr. Wolfson creates unique treatments for individuals seeking to improve cardiovascular health by getting to the root of the problem. “You are built to be healthy. Don’t blame your genetics. Give your body what it needs and remove what it does not. That is the key,” he shares. Wolfson developed his philosophy after tragedy struck. His father was dying and not even the Mayo Clinic could figure out why. And working in hospitals with heart attacks, strokes, and dying patients was no relief. “I saw sickness all around me” he laments. One woman, however, knew exactly what was happening and why there was so much sickness. And that was Dr. Heather, a Doctor of Chiropractic Medicine. “Heather explained exactly why my father was sick and dying. And I listened to her.” Shortly thereafter, The Drs. Wolfson married and now have 4 beautiful children who were all born at home and raised naturally. At Natural Heart Doctor, Wolfson is focused on cardiac longevity. First visits are 90 minutes and follow ups are typically 45 minutes. Using the most advanced testing in the world, he provides a customized plan for the “100 year heart” and beyond. The expert team of nutritionists and coaches that work alongside the doctors develop nutrition and lifestyle programs for sustainable improvement. And it doesn’t stop there. This fall, Wolfson will open the flagship location for Natural Heart Doctor here in Scottsdale. He is also launching Cardiology Coffee, a line of organic coffee that has been tested for mold and other impurities. “Coffee can be heart healthy,” he knows, as long as you’re drinking the right stuff. He and his wife are supporters of ChildHelp, Friends of Honduran Children, and both domestic and international animal rescues. His goal in life is to help others and Wolfson wants nothing more than to prevent others from suffering his father’s fate and provide people with a path to 100 years and more.

Robert W. Schreyer, CEO of Arizona Home Loan, is changing the way people view home loans by using them as tools to help his clients’ reach their financial goals, including retirement. Robert is a respected leader in the Arizona market and has over 25 years of experience in the mortgage industry. He started Arizona Home Loan with the goal to not just close home loans, but to assist his valued clients to reach their financial objectives. “There are a lot of lenders in the Valley that you can go to for a home loan, but very few will take the time to personalize and plan the best home loan for you and your family to meet your future or current goals, no matter what season of life you are in,” he says. Robert also adds that each person they have the honor to work with is not just another loan unit, but a valued client who deserves the best personal service which comes with mortgage planning. “We spend the time getting to know each client on a personal level and we pride ourselves on being the trusted mortgage experts to help guide our valued clients through the process,” he says. This philosophy has helped make Arizona Home Loan one of the best boutique lenders here in Arizona. Robert knows that home loans shouldn’t be complicated and his job is to make the process as easy and seamless as possible. Whether you're buying, selling, refinancing, or building your dream home, you have a lot riding on your loan specialist and that is where Robert’s expertise and dedication comes in. Last year was quite the year for the mortgage industry as they worked through the pandemic which forever changed the way businesses operate and saw mortgage rates dip down to one of the lowest levels ever. But Robert saw it as an opportunity to improve processes and streamline the way they do business at Arizona Home Loan, which has helped improved the service level even more to their valued clients. “There's no secret success, simply offer incredible, personalized service and value, follow through and you will win clients for life”. Robert is a native to Arizona and loves his state and everything it offers. “I would not want to live anywhere else on the planet. The people and weather are great, and our state offers so much to do and explore in this beautiful desert”. When he's not leading Arizona Home Loan or serving his valued clients, Robert spends time with his four awesome kids, volunteering at his church and now that the summer is here, you will find him at the lake most weekends surfing on his boat with friends and family. “To me, success is having family and friends that love you, loving what you do and being able to have an impact on the world one person at a time.” Robert says.

From Nothing to Something
Brent Orsuga built his recruiting firm from the ground up.
Brent Orsuga, or as some call him “The Jerry Maguire of Freight,” has built a seven-figure business in as many years. And he’s here to tell you it isn’t easy, but it is worth it. Orsuga is the founder and President of Pinnacle Growth Advisors, an executive recruiting company focused solely on the logistics and freight industry. What started as an office setup in a bedroom is now a national firm working with billion-dollar companies. Orsuga prides himself on not just talking the talk, but walking the walk. He shares behind the scenes glimpses into his life as an entrepreneur and father of two and wants to make it clear that what he does isn't easy. “There’s a difference between people who “play” entrepreneur on social media and those who actually put the work in,” he says. Orsuga has also figured out how to effectively utilize social media as a marketing tool. Recruiting is a people business, and posting on Instagram and Linkedin allow potential clients to get to know him and his business. It’s a form of networking that has paid off. Pinnacle Growth Advisors serves customers who come to them seeking the top talent to join their team. Orsuga knows that hiring the right employees is the biggest obstacle many companies face, so his team of scouts, advisors, and partners play “matchmaker” to bring companies the best people out there. And he knows exactly what type of person to seek out. He is interested in high performers who have concrete goals for their lives and actually work towards them, as opposed to just floating around. But he’s not only vetting potential employees, rather than looking out for his recruits. He always does a “sniff test” to ensure that a company has already established an energizing, productive environment and has been known to travel across the country, meeting with clients in person so that he can learn about the workplace culture and leadership before recruiting has begun. “If I wouldn’t work there, why would I send someone else to work there?” He quotes Zig Zaglar, “if you help enough people get what they want, you will always get what you want in return.” There is no shortcut, only hard work. “Your pay is directly proportional to the value you bring to the marketplace,” he says. “To this day I still invest a lot into myself through coaching and mentoring to be the best version possible.” Orsuga was born in San Jose, California. He attended Arizona State University and never left. Recently, he won the ASU Sun-Devil 100 Award back-to-back. The award honors alumni who have built and led successful businesses across the globe. He is also an active member of the EO (Entrepreneur’s Organization) and lives in north Scottsdale with his wife, Susannah, and their two daughters, Blythe and Blair where they are active members of the DC Ranch Country Club.

ARIZONA SUNSHINE COMES WITH A WARNING: PROTECT YOUR SKIN
The summer days begin sooner and end later here in the Valley of the Sun, and that means it’s even more important to protect your skin. While many travel – or even move – to Arizona because of the abundant sunshine, it’s important to remember the hazards of exposure to excessive ultraviolet radiation.
“While many skin cancers may be easily treatable, some like melanoma that are caused by sunburns can be deadly and there is no amount of skin damage that is safe,” says Samuel Ejadi, MD, Chief of Medical Oncology at Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA), Phoenix. “Tanning occurs after the skin is damaged. Protection from skin damage caused by excessive ultraviolet radiation in sunshine that can lead to premature wrinkling and skin cancer is vital for everyone. While those with darker skin may not get a sunburn from overexposure, that does not mean their skin is not being damaged just the same as someone with fair skin.”
With nearly 3.5 million cases diagnosed each year, skin cancer remains the most common cancer in the United States, and government officials estimate that one in five Americans will develop some form of skin cancer in their lifetime. The good news is that skin cancer is largely preventable and reducing your risk of sun damage is easier than you might think. Here are some tips to help protect your skin this summer, or any time of the year: • Avoid the sun, especially between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Don’t be fooled by cloudy days. The Skin Cancer Foundation estimates that up to 80 percent of the sun’s damaging UV rays can penetrate the clouds.
• Follow the shadow rule and teach it to your kids. If your shadow is shorter than you are, the sun’s rays are at their strongest, and it’s time to seek shade. • Wear protective clothing. Tightly woven fabric that you can’t see through when you put it up to the light provide the best sun protection. Wide brim hats protect sensitive areas like the back of the neck.
• Get sunglasses with UV protection that absorb up to 99 percent or 100 percent of UV rays. • Wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher daily on sun exposed skin, even when you’re running errands or driving around town. This will protect skin against both UVA and UVB rays. When planning outdoor activities, be sure to apply generous amounts to
your face and body—and lip balm. And reapply throughout the day, especially after sports or water activities. • Need a reminder on when you’ve had too much sun? There are a number of wearable gadgets—from UV-measuring wristbands to smartphone apps that draw data from sun patches on your skin— that alert you when it’s time to reapply the sunscreen or get out of the sun. • Avoid tanning beds. • Examine your skin from head to toe once a month and go to the doctor if you notice any irregularities. Be sure to enlist a loved one or hairdresser to help examine those hard to see places like your scalp or behind your ears. • See your dermatologist once a year for professional full-body skin exams.
Whatever you do, the key is to avoid excessive ultraviolet radiation as much as possible. Your genetics and UV light are the main factors linked to squamous cell carcinomas and melanomas of the skin, and likely the majority of basal cell carcinomas.
