Driver suffers minor injuries after car flips over Alan Campbell
Staff Reporter acampbell@richmond-news.com
A
driver escaped with minor injuries after his vehicle crashed into a median and flipped on its side during Saturday’s night’s rainstorm. Just before 11:30 p.m., the silver Hyundai SUV is believed to have struck a median on Russ Baker Way, near to Cessna Drive, and flipped onto its passenger side.
The male driver was apparently trapped inside and was suspended by his seatbelt. “The driver was OK, but a little beat up and shocked,” Richmond Fire-Rescue’s deputy chief of operations, Tim Wilkinson, told the Richmond News on Monday. “It was obviously very uncomfortable (being caught by his seatbelt). We removed the windshield and then supported the passenger with rescue straps,
before removing the seatbelt. “He was then lowered onto a board. Thankfully, there were no life-threatening injuries.” The driver was then taken to hospital by paramedics. “It certainly could have been a lot worse,” added Wilkinson, who said Saturday night’s number of emergency callouts – 35 – was “pretty average,” despite several other accidents across Richmond during the terrible weather.
