Local Businessman is taking Ultimate Tannning to the top Written by Ryan Bowen
A
local businessman is taking his golden touch to restore the glow of a downtown tanning salon that he’s investing heavily in. Ryan Bowen has been a business owner in Tooele County for 16 years. Bowen is a successful entrepreneur. He also owns B&B Custom Painting, Bowen Investments, an investment company, and We Dump Your Junk, a cleaning and disposal company. He is also the sales manager of the most successful water company in Utah. He has taken that company from 15 employees to over 200. While many businesses are scaling down during the poor economy, Bowen thrives on continually moving forward. “I love businesses. I love to see them grow,” he said. “When the economy is bad, it makes me want to go out and buy businesses and help pull everyone up.” Bowen bought Ultimate Tanning a month ago and has already made substantial improvements to the 12-year-old salon. “This is the first tanning salon in Tooele and we plan on it being the last,” said Bowen. He said the changes that he is making are based on customer feedback. “Our clients said they feel like fam-
ily when they come here with the environment and the friendly staff. People are also loving that we are centrally based in Tooele on Main Street and right next to Gold’s Gym.” The idea to buy Ultimate Tanning came just a few months ago when Bowen was frustrated with the weak results he had been getting from other tanning salons in the area. One local tanning salon told Bowen that he was too big to use their free Gold’s Gym bed and that he must upgrade to a $15 bed, which he did and never saw results in three times. Because Bowen was frustrated with the weak results he was getting, he went to Ultimate Tanning and the very knowledgeable tanning expert there told him he should go for 1012 minutes because all of our beds have brand-new bulbs. Bowen said just turn it on for 15 minutes and he got burned. He should have listened to the expert. Bowen decided that he loved everything about the salon and wanted to own it. Bowen has already upgraded lots of his equipment. Ultimate Tanning is the only salon in Tooele County that offers airbrush tanning. Katie, the salon manager, is certified and is one of the best artists in Utah. Air-

he Tooele County Health Department (TCHD) is excited to partner with the Tooele County Chamber of Commerce in addressing tobacco use in the workplace. They will be working together to conduct a survey of employees of Tooele County businesses. They will be distributing packets which contain surveys regarding tobacco use in the workplace for employees to complete anonymously. There is also a short survey for employers. This is a unique opportunity for TCHD to gather information for demographics on the adult tobacco users in Tooele (which is information that they have never been able to collect before this opportunity arose. The TCHD team working with Chamber staff will be picking up the completed packets and surveys and then pass out gift cards to those businesses to be used as an incentive drawing for employees who participate.
