HeritageWest Credit Union will be the sponsor of the occasion. Executive Board officers for 2009 and new Board Members will be installed during the event. At the age of 27, Chad Hymas’ life changed instantaneously when an accident left him a quadriplegic. Since that time Chad has been recognized by the state of Utah as the Superior Civilian of the Year. He is the president of his own communications company and an internet marketing company. As a member of the National Speakers Association Chad travels as many as 150,000 miles a year speaking to hundreds of professional and civic organizations such as Wells Fargo, Blue Cross Blue Shield, AT&T, Rainbird, IHC, American Express, Prudential Life, Vast FX, Zion

Written by Debbie Winn With all the “bad news” in our world, sometimes we find it hard to see the “good news” that is happening around us. As Executive Director of the Tooele County Chamber of Commerce, I have decided to include this new section in our monthly newsletter to remind us that “good” things are happening all around us, we just need to have it pointed out sometimes! Monday, December 8th at the Tooele High School Auditorium, the community experienced a wonderful holiday concert. The “sold out” crowd (cost of a ticket was one item of food for the local food bank) was entertained by Mr. Thurl Bailey and Caleb Chapman’s Cresent Super Band. The concert was a gift from the Tooele City Arts Council to all of the citizens of our great county. What a fantastic way to start off the holiday season and get us all in the spirit of giving. Speaking of giving, this community has given so much in the last several weeks. Businesses, civic groups, volunteers,
students and more have donated so generously to community projects including the local food bank (whose shelves were empty, now are full), Christmas gifts and food given to over 200 local families in need; provided a Thanksgiving and Christmas Day meal to the homeless, those in need or who were alone on these holidays; donated generously to local organizations serving those less fortunate and other acts of service that are too numerous to list! I am not surprised at the wonderful spirit of giving in this county, but I am continually uplifted when I hear of all the “good news” that is happening around us. Syracuse Castings West, a Chamber member and local fabrication company, recently participated in a special project for people living in Guinea, Africa. Employees worked for over 8 hours on a Saturday to manufacture aluminum access covers for concrete structures that gather and distribute fresh water to thousands of people in this country where there is little access to clean water. The covers, along

with 35 ladders, where sent along with other supplies donated by a contractor in the Mountain West; to a port on the east coast to be shipped to the West African country. Craig Anderson, general manager at Syracuse Castings West, said “The bottom line is that as long as we’re here on earth, we have to make a positive impact on the lives of others. My intention is to be able to do that at Syracuse Castings, and to use Syracuse Castings as a tool to do that for others as well.” Thanks to all of the businesses and employees, volunteers, government leaders and employees, school students and administration, and all citizens of this great county; for all of your continued hard work and compassion for others. Thanks for creating the “good news”. If you would like to share your “good news” story with me for our next issue; please email me at debbie@tooelechamber.com.
