They are members of the Better Business Bureau, National Chimney Sweep Guild, and the Tooele County Chamber of Commerce. We all know the season is changing and the holidays are upon us and that means we are all going to start up our fireplaces and woodstoves to keep warm and to save on heat. But before we start up the fireplace, woodstoves, and gas fireplaces; we should all get a chimney and fireplace inspection. It is important to get your fireplaces, woodstoves, gas fireplaces cleaned and or inspected every year for the safety of our family and our home. Chimney cleaning and inspections also help your fireplace and chimney work efficiently to continue to work for you for the coming years. Having your furnace and air ducts cleaned out helps keep dust and other particles out of your home to help with your indoor allergies. It also helps keep your furnace and air ducts run more efficient and your air cleaner. Especially for this time of year when it is a great idea to have them cleaned out because we are all going to be stuck inside to keep warm. Who wants to dust everyday and have to worry about having allergies over the holidays? Rodney has great season offers going on right now, just visit their websites to find out what they are. www.rmchimneycleaning.com,www.rmairductcleaning.com. November 2009
2010-2011 Tooele County Chamber of Commerce Board Member Candidates Candidates were asked the following questions.
What would you like to accomplish as a Chamber Board of Director? What contributions can you make to the Tooele County Chamber of Commerce as a Board of Director? Have you served as a Board of Director for other organizations in the community? What other organizations of the community are you affiliated with?
Jeff England, Axiom Financial As a Chamber Board of Director, I would like to see more ownership in our business community by our local businesses as well as a more positive outlook on what we have to offer locally to our residences as well as visitors that come to our community. I would also like to see more coherence support among the various organizations as the Chamber helps them to achieve their goals. I have many years experience serving on the Chamber Board as a director as well as Chair and other offices. As a business and property owner in Tooele for many years, (having grown up here) I have the experience of knowing what changes have taken place over the years as well as what we need to see happen to better our great County. The Tooele County Chamber of Commerce has been my main focus since it has a far outreaching arm that touches many other organizations and entities in which I can help with. I have been involved with other organizations for a time as I have felt them to be of good cause.
Mike Fields-Oxygen For You As a Chamber Board of Director, I would work on updating the bylaws & help with policies and procedures. I would continue to encourage all businesses to join the Chamber. I would also continue to help and chair Chamber functions and committees. I currently serve as the Chair of the Friends of the Children’s Justice Center. I serve as an officer of the Tooele Kiwanis and have been involved in a number of community organizations in the past. I have been active in the community since my junior year in high school. I was a police sergeant for Tooele City for 27 years and continue to help and donate to many organizations.
Cari Gavin-Jackrabbit Press The Chamber of Commerce is such a vital part of our business community, as well as all of our citizens. I am constantly impressed by the members of the Chamber with all the knowledge, concern and encouragement that they give to all aspects of Tooele. I would be incredibly honored to be able to work side by side, giving more and continuing to help our community prosper. As a Chamber Board member, I would like to be a true representative of the other Chamber members. I think that the only way to accomplish true representation is to increase positive communication with all the members and those of the community on decisions that are made and in the process of being made. It will take all (not a few) to continue all the good work the Chamber has accomplished already. My biggest contribution to the Board would be the diverse contacts that I have made and continue to make in the business community. I encourage each business in marketing, including the number #1 marketing decision of joining the Chamber. I try very hard to have a character that stands for what is right. I try to make decisions with integrity. And attempt always to be a contributing team member. We must all strive to be true to our word, dependable and understanding. These are just a few of the values that I hold extremely important and work to make part of my character. I am already very involved at the Chamber as an Ambassador, have served on several committees, and I think that being a Board Member will enrich my involvement at the Chamber. I am also affiliated with the First Baptist Church & Home-Schooling Associations
Vicki Griffith-Prudential Utah Real Estate-Tooele As a Chamber Board of Director, I would complete some projects that I have started since becoming a Director. I would continue to support staff and the Chamber on the Chamber Resource Director and other tourism promotions. I have a knowledge of Tooele County and history with the Chamber to help the Chamber continue to thrive and grow along with Tooele County. I currently serve as a Board of Director for the Tooele Valley Community Cooperative, Tooele County Children’s Justice Center, Women’s Shelter, Valley Mental Health and the Tooele County Board of Realtors. I have served as a Director for the Utah Association of Realtors and as Lt. Governor for the Utah Idaho District Kiwanis International.
Tooele County Chamber of Commerce
Dean Johnson-Zions Bank As a Chamber Board of Director, I want to help the local businesses work together to create a strong business community that will meet the needs of our local citizens. I want to add my 25 years of experience working in Tooele to help the Chamber of Commerce fulfill its mission of serving the business community and the citizens of this county. I have served as a Board of Director for other organizations in the community and currently serve on the Barrick Mercur Gold Mine Foundation; and am involved in the Tooele Kiwanis Club, United Way Leadership Counsel and Local Homeless Committee. Dean has served on the Chamber board for several years and served as President/Chairman of the Board in 1995.
Kris King-Mountain America Credit Union I would like to contribute to the success of our local businesses by being involved in events that promote the talent and value our chamber members bring to our county. I want to help improve events like the Business Expo and provide service hours to other events that promote tourist spending and other additional business locally. Experience gained as a past chamber board members, a small business owner, and the manager of the local Mountain America Credit Union branch will aide me in contributing to chamber decisions, challenges, opportunities and events. I am a director of the Tooele Kiwanis board and the Utah Highway Patrol Honoring Heroes. I am a member of the Exchange Club of Tooele.
Jeff Loafman- WalMart Distribution Center As the General Manager of WalMart Distribution, we would continue to provide economic growth in the Tooele Valley. We would also continue to foster an environment that promotes a high quality of life that can be sustained. As a Director I would contribute to the planning of events. I have logistical organization experience and networking ability to potential incoming industry. I currently serve on the Board of Trustees for the Mountain West Medical Center. I am affiliated with the Tooele County Children’s Justice Center. I have strong leadership skills and financial responsibility.
November 2009 11
Shawn Milne-Click Audio Video As a Board member, I would like to strengthen ties and intra-commerce among existing member businesses and organizations; aid in strengthening business practices for current members through networking, mentoring, and seminar- or workshop-based sessions; develop greater community participation from existing members; as well as increase new membership in the Chamber. As a Board member, my greatest contribution may be that of time and effort. I am very willing and capable to aid in the collective efforts and programs of the Chamber to enhance and develop local businesses. I am willing to serve on the various committee assignments as expected of Board members as well as attend as many community functions as feasible in order to represent the Chamber’s membership and mutual interests. I believe that my recorded participation in various functions throughout the community in the past two years has exemplified my willingness and capability of regular attendance at such functions and meetings as noted. Other affiliations: Most recently, Kiwanis Club; currently serve as the Chamber Ambassadors Chairman; Tooele City Planning & Zoning Commissioner; Tooele City Animal Control Appeals Board member; religious associations, and former volunteer with Tooele Police Dept.
Christian Scott-Oquirrh Hills Pro Shop Perhaps at no time in the Chambers history is it more important to promote local business. My main goal as a Board member will be to ensure that all businesses in our community see a great benefit in being a Chamber member. I am very proud of the Come Together campaign, which I was honored to help develop as a committee member. I would like to see the Come Together campaign expand to be more benefial to our members and our community. With the current economy we have to work harder than ever. To succeed we must use limited resources creatively. In over twenty years as a Golf Professional I have learned that you must treat your customers as investments not transactions. My experience in customer service will be of great benefit to the Chamber. As your Golf Professional at Oquirrh Hills I have helped organize some very successful fundraising events. I have learned that the events are only successful if you have a dedicated committee that cares. As Henry Ford said “You can’t build a reputation on what you are going to do”. As a Board of Director I will strengthen the Tooele County Chamber of Commerce. I will devote the time necessary as a Board of Director. I have gained the experience necessary to serve on the Chamber board through my involvement with our six golf associations, fundraising campaigns, and as Manager of Oquirrh Hills Golf Course. I am a proud member of The Professional Golfers Association of America. As a Golf Professional I am involved with six golf associations at Oquirrh Hills. One of my proudest accomplishments was creating the Oquirrh Hills Junior Golf Association that has grown into a very successful program with over 60 members. Additional qualifications: Owner and Operator of Oquirrh Hills Pro Shop, Manage Oquirrh Hills Golf Course with a staff of 20 employees, Implemented Utah’s First PGA Family Course, hosted over 120 events at Oquirrh Hills in 2009. In my tenure as Golf Professional revenues have doubled. I helped introduce a new era of golf with the nine hole expansion. SEE NEXT PAGE

Tooele School District Superintendant Honored Terry Linares, Tooele County School District Superintendent was honored as the Administrator of the year by the Utah School Employees Association, which is the state wide organization of all Classified School District Employees from all school Districts in the state of Utah. The competition was stiff with many great Administrators being nominated. Superintendent Linares received the prestigious award of Administrator of the Year for Classified Employees at their annual banquet in St George on May 2nd. Superintendent Linares was chosen as the Administrator of the year because of her commitment and support of classified employees in the Tooele County School District, as well as her background of once being a classified employee. Terry Linares started her career in education as a night sweeper in Wendover and soon became their secretary. When her family moved to Grantsville, she continued to work as a secretary, first at Grantsville Elementary and then at

Grantsville Junior High. After many late nights getting her teaching certification (Terry worked full-time and drove to Logan carrying a full schedule for college courses at night), Terry became a teacher (again more school), an Assistant Principal, a Principal, Secondary Education Director, Assistant Superintendent and then this school year she rightfully became the new Superintendent of Tooele County School District. It often has been said,” Superintendent Linares cares about all of her employees and will never fail to ask them how they are and is vigilant to let employees know just how much they are appreciated. If needed, she could walk into a kitchen and put on an apron and if they would give her the keys she could probably drive a bus. She is actively involved in all negotiations and changes in policies that may affect employees. Her communication with each group of employees is exemplary and she has often said that the best way to determine what is going on is to ask the staff, not the managers. Terry Linares exemplifies everything that an administrator should be.” We want to express our appreciation and support of such a wonderful leader and the example she sets for all of us.

Spine & Posture Rehab of Tooele Dr. Matthew Peterson has been practicing in Tooele for nearly 10 years. Recently, he has joined with Dr. T. Cole Snyder to open a new chiropractic clinic on the north end of town just south of Walmart. Their new clinic is called Spine and Posture Rehabilitation of Tooele, (formerly Tooele Family Chiropractic). Dr. Peterson’s primary focus is to get you, the patient, the right chiropractic care and rehab to restore your spine to a more pristine and healthy posture. I do this through exact measurement of the spine, exam, rehab exercise and most importantly, chiropractic manipulation. Dr. Peterson received his bachelors of science degree in exercise physiology from Brigham Young University and then went on to Parker College of Chiropractic in Dallas, Texas for his doctor of chiropractic degree. He graduated from Parker in December 1998 and moved back to Orem, Utah where is originally from. He started work as an associate for Dr. Green in Kearns, UT for nearly a year where he was the primary exam doctor, x-ray tech and performed adjustments on patients. About this time he considered practicing in several different places including southern Oregon. By January 2000 he heard of a chiropractor in Tooele who was retiring and wanted to sell his practice. Out of curiosity he met with Dr. David Pelton and stayed on for a couple months before deciding that moving to Tooele and taking over for Dr. Pelton was the right decision. Dr. Peterson and his family have felt right at home here in Tooele
Spine and Posture Rehabilitation of Tooele recently celebrated the grand opening of their new clinic located at 134 W. 1180 North Ste 5. Dr. T. Cole Snyder and Dr. Matthew Peterson cut the ribbon with the help of Tina Peterson, receptionist and Emily Hamilton, massage therapist who also works in the new office. Chamber members who attended the event include Berna Sloan, Group 1 Real Estate; Shawn Milne, Click Audio Video; Jolene Thurgood, Maceys (who also donated a beautiful cake for the occasion); Jack Bell, Quality Automotive Group; Mike Fields, Oxygen For You; Dr. Jed Winder, Tooele Vision Center and Debbie Winn, Chamber Executive Director (photographer). county and have made Grantsville their home for nearly 10 years. Dr Peterson, his wife, Rebecca and their four children enjoy the outdoors and feel closest when they are camping or backpacking through nearby Utah mountains together.
l
In the time Dr. Peterson has been in practice he has received advanced training in sports chiropractic, extremity adjusting, auto accident training, and most recently, training in the care of postural and spinal distortions. Dr. Peterson treats all cases and caters to all ages including infants, children and teenagers to the elderly. He has 11 years experience and he, along with his friendly staff, are available for consultation weekdays. Dr. T. Cole Snyder has been practicing in Tooele for almost three years. After meeting Dr. Matthew Peterson at a state convention we joined each other to help form what is now Spine and Posture Rehabilitation of Tooele. Spine and Posture Rehabilitation’s main focus is corrective spinal care along with allowing patients to feel respected and receive the care they deserve. Dr. Snyder was born and raised in Cody, WY and after a 6 year battle with a low

back pain that derailed his dreams of playing golf professionally, he pursued a career in massage therapy in 1997. After working in Las Vegas, Nevada for the JW Marriott Las Vegas, teaching for Nevada School of Massage Therapy, and teaching workshops for various spas he soon realized that he desired further education and understanding of the human body. After finishing his prerequisites at UNLV. He attended Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa where he graduated in 2006. While in Iowa, Dr. Snyder received post-doctrinal training in chiropractic neurology. This training allows him to work more acutely with balance disorders, dystonia, migraine and many other disorders that can be traced to functional aberrations of the brain and various parts of the nervous system. Dr. Snyder has also received extra training through the Personal Injury Training Institute that allows him to more appropriately treat injuries that are suffered from motor vehicle collisions or on the job. Dr. Snyder enjoyed the people of the midwest and the prolonged golf season, but with family and mountains beckoning he desired to move back to the Mountain West. Dr. Snyder’s wife, Natalie (Steadman) is a native of Tooele and it didn’t take much effort to decide that Tooele was a good location to call home and for their son. Since moving to Tooele, Dr. Snyder has been active within the community. He has performed with several community plays at the Benson Grist Mill, coached swimming for Grantsville High School and enjoyed singing with the community in Handel’s Messiah. Being raised in Wyoming and married to a Steadman create a love for the outdoors and enjoying the many different landscapes of Utah. In his free time Dr. Snyder enjoys playing with his son, time with his wife, golfing, triathlons, swimming, biking, fishing, and discovering the outdoors. The Snyder family is a strong proponent of adoption after being blessed with their son through the gift of adoption. Emily Hamilton owner of Elevation Massage has lived in Utah for the past fourteen years. A graduate of The Utah College of Massage Therapy in 2004 I have worked in a clinical setting for the past five years in Park City, and have an extensive working knowledge of the human body. I moved to Tooele this year and have really enjoyed it.

Tooele’s fine bridal and special occasion boutique, Modern Victoria, has recently donated a large mural to the county’s first charter school. The 4 foot by 6 foot mural depicts an adult male African lion lying in the grass. The lion is Excelsior Academy’s school mascot. “We are supportive of the schools in this county and applaud the goals Excelsior has set for itself. It has been a great experience to work with Excelsior and we look forward to continuing our partnership.” said Denise Harvey, one of the boutique’s owners. Use and care Tip by Cleaning range/stove burner drip pans Drip pans serve a variety of purposes. From catching food and spills, to radiating heat back to the cooking surface. Patience is the key when you decide to clean drip pans. There are many different suggestions and methods for cleaning them. •
Place drip pans in a plastic bag, Zip lock or a trash bag, with ammonia diluted with water and seal the bag, letting it set for a while. Then scrub the pans with a scouring pad.
•
Use a paste of baking soda and water to scrub.
•
Soak the pans in hot water and then place them in the dishwasher
•
Use an oven cleaner
All of these will work but the suggestion of ammonia can create health risks. There are also risks and hazards with the oven cleaner, so please follow the directions on the containers. Your best bet is to soak the drip pans in hot water for a while then use a nonabrasive cleaner and good old elbow grease. If time is of the essence, or you just don't want to bother cleaning them, replacements can be obtained at reasonable prices. The best thing you can do to keep drip pans clean is to clean them immediately after use or spills, once the burner has cooled. WARNING: the last thing you want to do is wrap drip pans in aluminum foil. This is same as having bare wires exposed. It can cause short circuits, fire, or other serious problems.
