Saturday, March 20th marked the beginning of the clean up process for the new Tooele County Chamber of Commerce building (formerly the Tooele Clinic).

Over 40 volunteers were on hand to start trimming trees, raking and

making the old building look more pleasing.

Weather prohibited the use of the softball fields this year for the Easter Egg Hunt, but the parking lot served the same purpose!

Thousands of children in Tooele County, ages 2-11 participated in the Tooele County Chamber of Commerce/Mountain West Medical Center Annual Easter Egg Hunt. This annual event has been co-sponsored by Mountain West Medical Center and the Chamber of Commerce for many years. This is a fun way to show the community our combined commitment to Tooele County and our residents. Local businesses donated bicycles, gifts, candy and other prizes that were given away at the egg hunt.

This event is totally funded by Chamber Members!

Despite the snowy weather, the annual event, where over 12,000 plastic eggs and candy bags were filled and ready for the children, was held on Saturday April 3rd at the Deseret Peak Complex located on Hwy 112 between Tooele and Grantsville. The event would not have been possible without the many volunteers who helped organize and participate in the hunt.

Thanks to the Tooele City Fire Department for the fire engine siren which started the event, the staff of the Deseret Peak Complex for preparation of the complex and the sound system, the Tooele County Royalty and

Chamber of Commerce Employee of the month!

Marissa Moore, employee at Sostanza, is the April 2010 Employee of the Month.

She was nominated by the Kiwanis Club of Tooele, who meets at Sostanza each Tuesday. Marissa serves approximately 20 Kiwanis members each week. A few members of the club had this to say about Marissa: “Marissa knows that I am short on time, so she’s great about bringing me lunch and getting my bill to me in record time so I can get back to the office.”

Clerk’s Insider With the onset of spring, comes the wandering bug, and most of us want to travel. If your thinking of wandering out of the country, there are some things I’d like to make you aware of.

The U.S. Passport Agency has proposed new fees Marilyn K. Gillette for the U.S. Passport Book, the U.S. Passport Card (cannot be used when flying) and other passport services. Some of the fee’s will increase as much as $35 per passport or card, making an adult passport $135, a child’s passport $105.

We haven’t been told when this increase will be implemented, but if you’re planning on purchasing a passport, sooner rather than later will save you some money to play with on your vacation. Passports take 6 weeks to process, unless expedited for another $60. You may then get them in 2 weeks. Passport pictures are available at the Clerk’s Office for $10.

Introducing the Utah Manufacturers Association

The Utah Manufacturers Association has been the voice of industry since 1905. Its mission is to enhance the business climate in Utah. Today the Utah Manufacturers Association continues to grow and now represents more than 850 member companies from throughout Utah.

This trade association, one of the oldest in Utah, is a highly regarded voice at the Utah Legislature, with regulatory agencies and in other areas of state and federal government.

The efforts of UMA have saved manufacturers and other businesses millions of dollars, defended the free enterprise system in Utah and streamlined the governmental processes that regulate industry.

Monthly regional activities conducted around the state include roundtables, lunch n learn sessions and manufacturing plant tours. An up-to-date website and a daily blog allows manufacturers to post services and products offer or need and get daily updates on key issues impacting manufacturing in Utah and the nation.

Responsible for reviewing and approving, along with County Commissioners, all purchases made by Tooele County employees.

TAX RATES – Collect data from taxing entities for use with the county tax roll in calculating tax rates for all taxing entities in the county. Work closely with other offices in maintaining and updating tax roll for Tooele County.

VALUATION NOTICES – Responsible for producing Real Property Valuation Notices each year for each parcel of real property in Tooele County. At the present time, this is about 22,000 parcels.

CLERK FOR BOARD OF EQUALIZATION – County Auditor is designated as the clerk for Board of Equalization.

Responsible for setting appointments and accepting information from taxpayers interested in appealing taxable values with a hearing officer. Also responsible for communicating any appeals with the Utah State Tax Commission.

ABATEMENTS – Work with taxpayers from various situations on tax abatements including: Veterans, Low income, blind, circuit breaker and tax exempt properties.

GENERAL LEDGER – Responsible for gathering all ledger information and entries necessary in maintaining the fiscal books for the county. Make sure all sub systems of the county are updated monthly to general ledger and balanced.

Produce monthly reports for elected officials and department heads in order to help comply with yearly budgets.

ANNUAL AUDIT – Work with outside auditing firm to review and express an opinion on the books of the county.

This annual audit is required by law to be done by a licensed auditing firm.

BUDGET – Responsible for collecting information yearly to produce a balanced budget for all funds of Tooele County. Information includes all revenues, expenditures, and if needed fund balance appropriation for the operation of Tooele County.

MAY TAX SALE – Work with County Treasurers office to hold annual tax sale for delinquent real property taxes of more than five years.

PAYROLL – Collect time cards and produce paychecks for approximately 400 Tooele County employees every two weeks.

ACCOUNTS PAYABLE – Collect information and produce payable checks weekly for purchases made by Tooele County Departments.

FIXED ASSEST INVENTORY – Responsible for tracking and maintaining inventory of all assets of the county. This includes all vehicles, office equipment, furniture, land, buildings, and infrastructure.

OTHER – Other audits and reviews as directed by state statute.

Tooele County Auditor Mike Jensen was recently recognized as County Auditor of the year for the State of Utah. Jensen was selected by the other County Auditors from around the State and presented the award at the annual convention of the Utah Association of Counties. Jensen has also been serving as President of the Clerk/Auditors affiliate group of UAC for the past year. He has been serving as Tooele County Auditor since March 2000.

April Chamber Luncheons to Highlight Utah Industrial Depot and Tooele County School District

The April Chamber of Commerce luncheons will be held on Wednesday, April 14th and April 28th at 12:00 noon at the Deseret Peak Complex Convention Center.

The presenter and sponsor of the April 14th luncheon will be the Utah Industrial Depot.

UID is located on property that was formerly a portion of the Tooele Army Depot. After the Base Closure and Realignment process in the 1990’s, UID has been privately owned and operated since 1999. They have turned the vacant 2.5 million square foot business park into a bustling 4.3 million square foot business park

with 66 companies employing over 1,000 individuals. Don’t miss this luncheon presentation to learn about what UID has to offer the business community.

The sponsor and presenter of the April 28th luncheon will be the Tooele County School District. The District is currently constructing a much needed Community Learning Center which will include the Tooele Adult Education program, Blue Peak High School and several technical education classes that were previously offered to students only through classes in the Salt Lake Valley.

The District is also working on rebuilding Grantsville Elementary School. Don’t miss this interesting and valuable informational luncheon with the School District leaders.

The purchase was made with funds that were received from a sale of property that was originally donated over 40 years ago by LaVar Tate, one of the original Chamber founders. Renovation of the building will also be funded from monies received from the property sale. Because the Chamber is a non-profit organization, we will be accepting donations and/or volunteer help to “clean up” the property and make it a show piece for Tooele City.

Plans for the building include Chamber offices, meeting rooms, information and visitor reception area and additional office spaces available for rent. Saving the old building from demolition was important to the Chamber board and director. It is essential to keep the Chamber offices easily accessible to visitors and residents and therefore, downtown Tooele City seemed to be the perfect spot to locate the new offices.

Miller Motorsports Park Pulling Out All the Stops for World Superbike Weekend Single-Day Tickets on Sale Now

SALT LAKE CITY (February 11, 2010) — This year’s visit to Utah by the HANNspree FIM Superbike World Championship will be the biggest and best yet, officials from Miller Motorsports Park announced in a press conference today.

The event, which will take place over Memorial Day Weekend, will include a major classic-rock concert, a downtown street party at The Gateway outdoor mall, a stirring tribute to America’s military and a number of additional new features.

Like last year, the Memorial Day Weekend activities will begin on Friday, May 28th on the steps of the State Capitol and will feature team riders, sponsors, and track and elected officials. It is anticipated that Governor Gary Herbert will be in attendance and officially commence the festival week-

end. The racers, on their race bikes, will then lead a parade of motorcycles, in which the motorcycle-riding public is invited to participate, to The Gateway, which will be closed to all but motorcycle traffic. The Gateway will be the site of a street party that will include live music, autograph sessions and stunt bike demonstrations to celebrate the weekend. Each brand of motorcycle will have its own reserved parking area.

Racing action will begin on Saturday, May 29, capped by a classic-rock concert at the track featuring Foreigner, Styx and Kansas (and a possible surprise addition to be named later), with fireworks at its conclusion. Racing will continue on Sunday and Monday, with the feature races for the Superbike World Championship and Supersport World Championship on Monday. The support races will be the second

annual Larry H. Miller Superbike Challenge, with events for both the GTU and GTO classes.

Our nation’s military will be honored with a 2,010-flag Tribute Field in the track’s infield throughout the weekend. Other highlights will include demonstrations by the Lucas Oil Stunt Plane, stunt bike exhibitions, manufacturer displays and parking corrals, military flyovers and an expanded Vendor Village.

Single-day tickets are now on sale for the event. All tickets will include paddock access, and single-day Saturday tickets will include admission to the concert.

Three-day discount ticket packages are available for Grandstand and General Admission guests.

There will be expanded camping and RV opportunities this year at the Deseret Peak Recreational Complex next door to the track, and the complex’s outstanding aquatic center will be open for

guests’ enjoyment.

“We are very excited about this year’s event,” said John Larson, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Miller Motorsports Park. “We have added a significant amount of entertainment to complement the outstanding racing provided by the HANNspree FIM Superbike World Championship. This will be the biggest international sporting event in Utah since the 2002 Olympic Winter Games and the beginning of a Memorial Day weekend tradition for families throughout Utah and the United States to enjoy.”

TCBR Welcomes Lynn Anderson I have worked at the Tooele County Board of Realtors since August of 2009. It is a great job that I have grown to love. It is a busy office, with performs many functions in behalf of the 140 members and 20+ affiliates. The people I work with are fantastic and I can honestly say I have not met anyone in the association that I don’t like.

The Board of Realtors provides a vital service for the realtors in Tooele County. I admire the board of directors, the committees and all who volunteer their services to serve their fellow members. I have a new found respect for the realtor profession and all that they must know and do to facilitate a sale of a home or property. It is rewarding to be a part of an association that plays a role in making Tooele County a great place to live.

I was born and raised in Grantsville, attended Grantsville High. We moved to California in 1989, raised a family and then we decided to come “home” after 20 years of being away. My husband Jay and I have enjoyed getting back to our roots and being around family and friends. I enjoy the “country” life and have chickens, ducks and a spoiled yorkie. When I am not working at TCBR, I love to read, cook, garden, paint and help my husband in his custom children’s furniture & playhouse business.

Not only do we strive to get educated, but we enjoy raising money for the community at the same time. The Tooele County Board of Realtors® “TCBR”, along with their Affiliate Members, gathered together for a day of Continuing Education and some fun filled entertainment from one another with lots of laughs and prizes at the Annual TCBR Mini Convention.

The plus to it all is that the Members of the “TCBR” raised over $650 that will go directly to the Boys and Girls Club of Tooele.

Keep your eyes and ears open for future activities sponsored by the “TCBR” and its members. 5k run (tentatively set) June 26, 2010 at the England Acres Park. MANCAVE

Everyone knows a woman that has been to a Pampered Chef, Mary Kay, or a Tupperware party, but what about the men? Well now there is a party for them; it’s called MANCAVE. Paul Bunting of Tooele is the first salesman of the Minnesota-based company; actually he is the only sales con-

sultant in the western United States. So what is this ManCave? First an individual decides to have a “MEATing” and invites their friends to attend.

A ManCave advisor, which in this area would be Paul, comes to your “MEATing.” With him he brings his expertise and lots of free meat for grilling.

A “MEATing” can be a good reason to kick back and have a good time as men and friends.

Part of Paul’s expertise includes being able to use the grill and being able to cook up some delicious demonstrations, while showing you different grilling techniques.

ManCave sells high quality products ranging from grilling tools and accessories, premium meats, wood chips and planks, grilling spices, rub and marinades, to poker products and home bar accessories. Paul has his own man cave in his backyard, and hopes that other men will feel that they need to have a man cave of their own to host

parties and to be a man. Paul commented saying “a Man Cave is a sanctuary for a man to be his true self, to relax, start the grill, and hang with the guys” he also added “I’m very excited about all the responses I’m getting I know this is going to take off like Wildfire!!” So when you feel like you want to sit back and relax, have a few buddies over, and fire up the grill; call Paul and let him show you how it’s done.
