Opening Story Line Possibilities: Please remember the best comedy is aimed at ourselves. Preamble: When the European explorers arrived the saw a vast empty land; Mind you New France and Upper Canada and the Prairies where filled to the edges with First Nations peoples but that didn't stop them claiming all the land for their Kings and Queens and then borrowing on their hosts native traditions to survive the brute force of the winters. One must wonder looking back from reservations and broken treaties whether that was a good decision for First Nations to take – to welcome and trust these strangers from a far away lands of England and France? Our series of comedy radio dramas are to entertain, inform while poking fun at stereotypes, misconceptions, and just plain people who need to live together in very different relationships. Actions and dialog drawing two Nations to a place of mutual understanding. In our series, the tables are turned. Our non First Nation peoples have chosen to live 'on a reserve' in their Recreational Vehicles – Trailers and Fifth Wheels, forty feet long and more – from simple to breath taking living, from affordable home of a twenty-six footer (like Lees') to forty-five foot Land Yachts that pull Smart Cars. This lovely upscale R.V. Waterside Resort is on First Nations Land, has been built in three phases. Phase 1 was settled by all the wealthy nomads from every corner of this vast country. The one thing in common seemed to be that they had all kept their Country Club memberships up for their children who were still in commerce or the family businesses back home. Their challenge here was were to store their his and hers Harley Davidson, the canoes, the kayaks, the twenty one speed Cannondales and where can one find a good gardener? And since the park's membership had a governing council, organized under Marquis of Queensbury Rules and first past the post, winner takes all political system like the rest of the country – they were happy! Phase 1 knew politics well - if they voted as a block for their candidates they would defeat phase 2 & 3 candidates- who voted with their hearts. They collectively
had their hearts set on an additional tennis court and a 'jetted lengths pool' complex. Regretfully four owners from Phase 2 would have to be expropriated. A small price to pay for other members heath – right? For three years the park had struggled under Phase 1's leadership this looked like a slam dunk since phase 2 members were working long hours, tired and not interested, never went to meetings and 30% never voted. Phase 1 reps were always there, with proxies from all Phase 1 and they always won. But this election tomorrow night from now was different! Phase 3 members are mostly new, saw the issues and the shenanigans and may vote to tip the scales? Lee is moving his small trailer into the park today. Wants to quickly get to know his new neighbours. What better way than to serve on council and help everyone – why not as Chairperson! How hard could that be? He wondered at the primal sound of distant drumming – was that an omen? A warning of things coming? What a magic place this was, , ancient history and lore, Lee was pleased and decided to rehearse his acceptance speech. First Nations people, a mile away where also holding a historic election...sweet grass...drumming and an election. The power, to resolve an inter family dispute was about to move to the youth of the tribe. The twenty and thirty somethings were to be given the decision making as the elders were locked and unable to manage the SEASIDE RV Park and other matters. Conscientious voting was required of the tribe and they thought that the kids could do it given a chance...
