MOUNTAIN

I’ve been on long rides in the Alaskan backcountry, dealing with trees and low branches. As a snowbiker, my main concern was gear durability, but I’m pleasantly surprised by how well it’s held up against snags. The deep snow this year hasn’t been a problem; I haven’t gotten any snow inside the suit even after rolling around in it to get unstuck. During a fullday ride, I stayed dry and comfortable, and the added zipper made restroom breaks easy. I’m a 6ft, 225 lb. guy, and the size large/regular suit allows me to layer up for 10-degree temperatures. Switching to a mono suit was a great decision, and I’m really happy with the quality, function, and durability of the Ether suit.

I did over twenty hop overs in thirty minutes and just as many bowties with the waterfall as a backdrop. After the waterfall rip session, we met with the rest of the group for lunch. I perched up on a rock and watched some of the guys water skip while slamming a quick lunch. At the same time, David was chatting with the helicopter pilot about getting a ride to shoot some video. took off to look for more jumps when he was getting set up in the heli. The day before, I saw a wind lip that looked perfect for a 270 flip, so I headed in that direction.

SPRING HITS

After a quick assessment, I decided to go for it and held her wide from the bottom of the mountain to the top. I came off the lip clean but didn’t get the perfect rotation. Even though I landed it, it was sloppy, and I knew I’d go for another one. As I’m lining up for my second hit, I see the helicopter come around the corner and David sitting inside filming. The timing couldn’t have been better! I could not communicate with David, so I gave it a few seconds until the heli looked lined up and then pinned it for the wind lip. For that brief moment, nothing in the world mattered except timing my hit with the heli and landing the flip.

I came off the lip with all the speed, pulled back, and held her wide. My 146 Khaos otated perfectly, and I landed clean on the skis. Nothing beats the feeling of nailing a technical flip in a highpressure situation!

What an insane day and a phenomenal trip to Sweden; I’m counting down the days until I go back!

I’ve found myself leaning heavily towards the Monosuit Shell over the Insulated Monosuit, and it’s not just because of the price point, although that’s a definite plus. One of the key factors that sway me in this direction is the accessibility to the pockets. Having convenient pockets can make a big difference when you’re out and about. In terms of warmth, the Monosuit Shell strikes a great balance for me. It keeps me warm in cold conditions without making me feel overly hot, which is crucial for comfort during extended outings.

WOMEN OF WINTER

I often get asked the question, “What is it like being a woman in a male dominated sport?” My answer hasn’t changed since the second I started sledding: “It’s fantastic.”

I am a confident and goal driven human and I truly feel like the only obstacles in my way of achieving anything (sledding related or not), are ones that I create. I know that not everyone feels the same, but I want other women out there to see the world through my eyes and know that we can do anything we set our minds to. If you work hard, you will succeed.

The sled world is still heavily dominated by males, which inspired me with the help of the team at 509 to develop the Women of Winter Campaign. I love this idea because it isn’t about how awesome or skilled you are on your machine; it’s about why you’re out there and what you love about it and what keeps you wanting more. It’s about camaraderie and time away from work with friends and family in the most amazing places on this planet.

March 2023. The day started off with optimism and big hopes that when I opened the door of the hotel, there would be a fresh foot of snow on the ground. “Dang it,” the weatherman lied again.

Regardless, we stuck to the plan: fueled up, grabbed the coffees, and off we went to the parking lot about an hour away.

Once we got to the parking lot, there was about 1” of fresh. So let’s say the stoke was about a 2/10. We all geared up, did our safety checks and followed our fearless leader @aksledjunkie down the valley.

As we started heading into Zippermouth Creek, with every passing mile there was a little more fresh on the trail— which started to get our attention. By mile 10, there was a fresh foot. Mile 11, 2 feet. As we approach the trail there was no less than 3 feet of fresh snow. “Wooooohooo!” is all you could hear from everyone. Let’s say the Stoke level was at an all-time 15/10. Jeff pointed us in the direction of the destination and it was on… Just like back in the motocross days she was taped to the bar “wide open”. So many good laughs as we all struggled to reach the top. And yes of course they all followed my tracks….
