His work often challenges societal norms, making him a prominent figure in Iceland’s contemporary arts scene.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Raggi cares for his dying father in isolation. After his father’s death, he struggles to reconnect with the world, finding solace in video games and his neighbor, Sif, who has her own dark secrets. Sif longs to regain custody of her daughter from her ex, Svenni, an oppressive crook, while Raggi’s life spirals out of control, leading to a dangerous obsession. A deadly confrontation unfolds, forcing Raggi to make a choice that will change all their lives forever. Tár úr sementi explores the subjects of obsessive fascination, systematic care and selective love. It points the lens towards themes that we tend to shy away from, by portraying the social isolation experienced by the overlooked individuals of society.

BARA BARN (JUST A KID)

Ólafur Aðalsteinsson and Jóhanna Óladóttir, a husband and wife duo, embody a rare connection to nature. Ólafur, widely regarded as one of the world’s premier ornithologists despite lacking formal accreditation, finds solace and purpose in his avian companions within the remote confines of Loðmundarfjörður, a mythical fjord that’s not been inhabited by humans since the sixties. The narrative unfolds with the arrival of the eider birds and concludes upon their departure, encapsulating the cycle of life within the avian community. This symbiosis between the couple and the birds is unique and an example of how to live off the gifts of nature without intruding on it. Integral to this tale is the realization that individuals such as Ólafur and Jóhanna represent a dwindling breed, embodying a unique connection to nature that seems to fade with each passing generation. Their impending retirement underscores the hard truth that there are no successors to carry on their legacy.

Kalli is an established visual artist in Akureyri, Iceland. Human mistakes and medical malpractice at birth condemned him to a life of physical limitations and irreversible brain damage. He is locked inside his body and has no control over diminishing muscles. He cannot speak and can never be alone. Kalli’s deep understanding of forms and colors first came to light when he was only 5. The film shows an extraordinary artist collaboration, the commitment of people with personal and professional roles in making the impossible become possible, and the power of a mother’s limitless love. We have a conversation with Kalli who communicates with his art and eyes. Using Blissymbolics and speech technology he shares his dreams and opinions and shows us the world from the perspective of one who refuses to be a passive observer of his own challenged life.

“I find Kalli’s story strong, but at the same time fragile, fascinating, and terrifying. But Dancing Lines is also just a documentary about a young disabled man who has, despite all odds, become a unique artist - and would be an equally unique artist without his disabilities.”

11 WHITE GOLD DOCUMENTARY

The Danish state has often portrayed itself as the humane colonizer in its relation to Greenland and the Greenlandic population. A central part of this narrative has been how Denmark has kept Greenland “afloat”, financially speaking. A narrative that is deeply rooted in Danish popular belief, and with greater consequence, the Greenlandic self-understanding. As our research will show, this postcard picture is far from the truth, as we follow the money-trail from the cryolite mine in southern Greenland. For a period of 130 years, enormous wealth was transported from Greenland to Denmark, with very little going the other way. All in all, a well-known colonial and post-colonial play we have seen in many countries, but this time staged in a Scandinavian country with its self-image as a benign and altruistic nation.

Development and production of TV2-series about PET (2022). Development and production of DR1-series about the relationship between Greenland and Denmark over a 300 year period (2019-22). MUSIC VIDEO FEAST WITH JONAS ÅKERLUND

MODERATORS: Frosti Runólfsson

FROSTI RUNÓLFSSON

Frosti Jón Runólfsson (1981) is a director with background in music. He’s played in various bands, and still does, but turned to filmmaking in 2001 after accidentally entering a short film contest and winning his first camera. Since then the camera follows him most places he goes and he has focused on documentaries and music videos. A very hands-on artist, he both shoots and edits his projects. His work often combines his interest in music & film, having made documentaries about Icelandic music groups such as Hjálmar, Grafík and, of course, the infamous documentary about the rock band Mínus. Among his music videos are videos for artists such as Ghostigital, Minus, Sigur Rós, Benni Hemm Hemm, Legend, and Skrattar, to name a few. The subject matter for his nonmusic documentaries is more often than not “anti heroes” and he has a keen eye for finding beauty in the rarest of places. The best and most recent example of this is his music video for “Sumarið sem aldrei kom” by the artist Jónsi of renowned band Sigur Rós which won Frosti the video of the year at the Icelandic music awards and also the Grapevine magazine awards. Frosti has for the past years worked in film special effects and is currently working on a documentary about “outsider artist” Guðný María Arnþórsdóttir.

JONAS ÅKERLUND

Jonas Åkerlund is a renowned Swedish director known for his visually stunning music videos, powerful documentaries, and gripping films. Åkerlund’s music videos are renowned for their edgy and intense style, often incorporating complex visual effects and dark themes. His exceptional work on Madonna’s “Ray of Light” music video won him a Grammy Award for Best Short Form Music Video in 1999, and his contributions have earned him a total of three Grammy Awards in the same category. Åkerlund has also directed numerous other notable music videos, such as Beyoncé’s Hold Up, Lady Gaga’s Paparazzi, The Prodigy’s Smack My Bitch Up Metallica’s ManUNkind, Ozzy Osbourne’s Under the Graveyard, Kesha’s Here Comes the Change, U2’s You’re the Best Thing About Me, and Taylor Swift’s New Romantics, which continue to push the boundaries of music video creativity. In addition to his music video credits, Åkerlund has directed several documentaries, including the critically acclaimed Rammstein: Paris (2017), which captures the German industrial metal band on their 2012-2013 tour, showcasing their epic live performances with Åkerlund’s trademark visual flair. Åkerlund’s filmography is diverse, ranging from the bone-chilling horrorthriller Lords of Chaos, based on the Norwegian Black Metal scene, to the dark comedy Small Apartments, and the actionpacked movie Polar. He also wrote and directed the gripping Netflix series CLARK. Furthermore, Åkerlund has directed two iconic concert films, Paul McCartney’s Live Kisses and Madonna’s The Confessions Tour Live from London, which capture the magic of their live performances and create an immersive experience for viewers.
