handwritten wooden letters dating back more than 2000 years and even a wooden toilet seat. With experts estimating that only 24 per cent of the site has been excavated, you might even get to see them uncover their next big find during your visit.
A more recent insight into the North East’s industrial heritage can be found at the world famous Beamish Open Air Museum, with a whole host of fun for the whole family.
WHERE TO GO With an award-winning spa, two championship golf courses, four restaurants and rooms so luxurious that it’s hard to get out of bed in the morning, you would be forgiven for never wanting to leave the grounds of any of Ramside Estates’ properties.
W
hether you are staying at Ramside Hall, Hardwick Hall, Bowburn Hall or The
Impeccable Pig – they are all ideal locations when it comes to exploring everything the North East has to offer, from well preserved historical sites to a wealth of natural beauty. There’s no better place to start than the historic city of Durham, where you could easily spend hours browsing a wide range of independent shops, taking in the grandeur at Durham Cathedral and the castle, or if you find yourself visiting the city on a sunny summer’s day, why not head to the riverbank and rent a rowing boat?
8
Head 10 minutes north on the train and you will find yourself in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, with lively nightlife and a whole host of high street brands. Check out the exhibition spaces at the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, stop for a drink or a bite to eat along the quayside, or catch a film at the city’s Art Deco Tyneside Cinema, with Hollywood releases, independent features and a wide selection of world cinema on offer. But you would be mistaken if you thought that the big cities have it all, with a huge variety of attractions to see across the region.
History buffs should head to Hexham, home to the oldest purpose-built prison in Britain, Hexham Old Gaol – now a popular museum with something for all ages – and Hexham Abbey, where you will find an Anglo-Saxon crypt, the tombstone of a Roman soldier and a beautifullypreserved collection of Medieval paintings.
This museum has won every conceivable award – and deservedly so. Learn more about daily life in the 1900s by paying a visit to the pit village residents, grab a hard hat and take a trip down the Mahogany Drift Mine, or take a journey on a steam train at Rowley Station, to name just a few of the many things to see and do. For a more traditional museum experience there is The Bowes Museum, which houses an impressive wealth of treasures including archaeological finds, fine art and intricately crafted ceramics and glass. Recent exhibitions have shone a spotlight on fashion photography, British antiques and local history,
and the venue also offers a packed programme of events and classes. If you decide to plan a visit to the coast then make sure to stop at Hartlepool, which is home to an authentic 18th century seaport and The National Museum of the Royal Navy. Learn more about how tailors, printers and instrument makers earned a living, see live demonstrations and re-enactments all year round and climb aboard HMS Trincomalee – the oldest British warship in Europe that is still afloat. From there, take some time to explore the natural beauty of the Durham Heritage Coast, which starts in Hartlepool and stretches all the way to Sunderland. An 11 mile-long walking path will take you across dunes and cliffs, with fantastic views across the North Sea and several great viewing points for avid bird watchers. No trip to County Durham would be complete without a visit to the North Pennines. An Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and a UNESCO Global Geopark, the area is home to a stunning landscape of heather moors, peatlands, woods, rivers and a wide range of distinctive birds and animals. Try everything from mountain biking to wildlife watching at Hamsterley Forest and make sure you don’t miss out on seeing High Force, one of the country’s most impressive waterfalls with rocks which date back more than 300 million years.
And from the past, right up to the present, take time to take a look at the transformation of Sunderland city centre, where hundreds of millions of pounds of regeneration is creating exciting new places to enjoy, alongside stunning old buildings that have been brought back to life. A vibrant retail scene with big name brands and independents; cafes, bars and eateries serving up tasty food and drinks; and world-class cultural venues from Sunderland’s Empire Theatre to the Museum and Winter Gardens all come together to create a city centre that boasts something for everyone to enjoy. It may also come as a surprise to learn that Sunderland has miles of blue flag beaches across its twin seaside resorts of Roker and Seaburn – just the places to tuck into traditional fish and chips. Visitors can also hop on an e-scooter to zoom to the beach, with the route passing by St Peter’s Church, the seat of learning of the Venerable Bede, as well as the National Glass Centre, where Sunderland’s rich glass-making heritage is celebrated. And at the end of a busy day exploring the region, there’s no better feeling than stepping back into the luxury of Ramside Hall Hotel, Golf and Spa, where you can sit back, relax and start planning your next North East adventure.
Then, a short drive west of Hexham will bring you to Vindolanda, a museum and archeological site where live excavations take place every year from April to September. In the last 10 years alone, experts have uncovered treasures including a complete sword, leather boxing gloves,

A seaside city of surprises The transforming skyline in Sunderland is putting this seaside city of surprises on the radar of more and more visitors – a city reinventing itself and creating a stunning place for people of all ages and interests to enjoy. Huge regeneration projects are taking shape in the city centre, with new buildings rising from the ground. From the new Auditorium, a music, arts and cultural venue with a packed programme of events; to the Victorian splendour of the city’s Empire Theatre, where audiences enjoy West End shows, if live entertainment is what you’re looking for, then Sunderland is the answer. Bars, restaurants and eateries mean you can extend your evening too, as the city comes alive by night. By day, you’ll find a cornucopia of shops to enjoy. From High Street favourites like H&M, M&S and Hotel Chocolat to quirky independents that line Park Lane. The historic Mackies’ Corner has been brought back to life and is a treasure trove of vibrant independent retailers, selling everything from snappy made-to-measure suits to cakes that are a treat for the eyes as well as the mouth.
10
A short walk away, you’ll find miles of unspoilt sandy beaches at Seaburn and Roker, that play host to thousands of visitors a year. Here you can take in the soothing sounds of the sea, best enjoyed with fresh fish and chips doused in salt and vinegar. Peppered with cafés, restaurants and eateries, the seaside is a brilliant place for visitors to wind down with family and friends, enjoying the vibrant atmosphere that has been added to with Stack Seaburn, a social hub with a range of authentic eateries and Pier Point in Roker, where stunning little cake shops and cafés stand alongside luxury charcuteries and bars.

ou’re in a remarkable feat of engineering – a house on stilts, with your own private hot tub (or two!), lavish decoration with so much attention to detail, you don’t know where to look first. Welcome to the world of Ramside’s Treehouses, a multi-million pound development creating yet another reason to visit this stunning property. This unique accommodation has something to offer everyone. It might be a relaxing break with friends, a family celebration, a business
meeting where discretion is required or even a wedding. And the good news is there are even more options on the horizon as we’re currently creating a new treehouse, primarily as a unique wedding venue. Each has their very own distinct style - Peacock, for example, has been inspired by lavish French décor, while Cuckoo has drawn inspiration from Alpine lodges and Woodpecker reflects a wholly more contemporary design aesthetic.
But, while their interior styling may differ, they all share exquisite details – such as freestanding copper baths and a great deal of planning has gone in to ensuring every need is catered for.
Built on stilts to blend seamlessly with the woodland and with views over the hotel’s championship golf courses, they are designed to the highest standard and specification.

And if it’s an intimate wedding you’re after, they can be transformed to take up to 30 people for a ceremony, with enough turn around time to accommodate a wedding breakfast.
While the hotel’s full facilities are close at hand, continental breakfast can BE delivered each morning by the treehouse butlers, so you can savour every minute of the experience. And should you not want to leave – and who would blame you – one of the hotel chefs can also be on hand to cook your dinner which can be served in the privacy of your own treehouse.
The flexibility of the treehouses means that they can be all things to all people, with the option to sleep up to 12 people by using all the sofa beds. Although each treehouse is similar in terms of facilities – three bedrooms, two hot tubs, a large and spacious lounge and the ultimate in bathroom luxury – they have been created so there are numerous possibilities. For example it’s perfectly possible to divide them into a one bedroom studio and/or a two bedroom apartment, if taking the entire house is not necessary.

FIRST GLIMPSE OF RAMSIDE HALL’S NEW TREEHOUSES Here at Ramside Hall, we are always looking to be ahead of the curve and the plans for our latest accommodation are no different. Perfect for a romantic break or a family trip, they each house an en suite bedroom, lounge, toilet and kitchen area, with a double fold-out bed for extra guests. At the end of the day, retire to the luxury, decked outdoor area, which features your very own private hot tub and sauna so you can relax under the stars. And it’s good news for couples looking to tie the knot, as an additional treehouse has been designed with intimate weddings in mind.

our relaxation begins as soon as you walk through the door, where you check in and change into a cosy robe and slippers, leaving behind the cares of the world. Of course there are difficult decisions to be made – which pool should you visit first, do you want to relax in a steam room or head for the gym? And nobody is making the decision easy for you. There are five pools – so the best solution would be to dip your toe (and the rest of you) in them all – including a 25m swimming pool, hydrotherapy pool, outdoor vitality pool and a bubble pool, plus
if you fancy a real splurge, there’s the private balcony infinity pool. The infinity pool isn’t included in a typical spa package, but it’s well worth booking an hour to share with friends or a loved one – where you can order a glass of fizz and look out over stunning views across the grounds while the steam rises around you. But the water isn’t the only thing the Spa at Ramside has to offer so, after a swim, head on over to the thermal suites. Pay a visit to the Himalayan salt steam room or sunken sauna or brave the elements and enjoy the thrill of the outdoor spa.
We all know that relaxing can be tiring work, so why not take a break to enjoy the delicious dishes at Fusion? MEET THE RESTAURANT MANAGER…. If Jean Rousselle needed to, he could probably turn his hand to anything in the hospitality industry.
C
lassically trained in his native France, the Ramside Hall Rib Room restaurant manager learned everything from housekeeping to cookery, but admits it was a love of travel that put him on his career path. “In the 80s chefs didn’t move around as much as they do now and travel was very expensive,” said Jean. “Whereas waiters would move anywhere to work so I decided that was what I was going to do.” From a family of foodies- his brother is a chef and his mum was a very accomplished cook – there seemed no other career choice.
Photo: Massimo Vitali
And for the past nine years he has been the man in charge of the Rib Room, landing in the North East via jobs in Austria, Germany, Jersey and in his home country. Jean worked for the prestigious hotel chain Relais Chateaux at a number of properties before returning back to France to run a restaurant for nine years with his brother.
Wanting his children to be brought up in England, he came to the region – and promptly landed the job at Ramside as restaurant manager. There’s no doubting his passion for the job, coupled with expert knowledge.
“The restaurant has become more and more popular over the years and we’ve probably doubled the amount of covers we used to have,” he said. “We have such a great menu and because we use local ingredients as much as possible we can tell people where everything came from, which is so important to people these days.” Jean’s other passion is wine and he has had a huge amount of input into the selection on offer in the Rib Room.
“We’ve got wines from Brazil, Slovenia, Romania and Austria – a great selection which we’ve hand picked.” For Jean the ultimate compliment is for someone to ask for his recommendation – or ask his help in recalling a favourite wine they’ve drunk before. “We had some ladies here not that long ago who wanted a wine they’d had previously but could only remember it had flowers on the label,” he said. “Luckily we have only one kind with flowers on the label so I was able to know exactly which one they wanted!” Running a very busy restaurant at the heart of an ever busier hotel is hectic, but Jean wouldn’t have it any other way. “Ramside is a fantastic place to work,” he said. “It’s a great job.”
“We have some really unusual wines, ones that people are unlikely to find anywhere else,” he said.

RACHEL
MORSON With 26 years at Ramside Estates under her belt, few know the business, its people or its venues as well as Rachel Morson…
A
SK Rachel Morson to describe her role at Ramside and she laughs out loud. “That’s a tough one, “she says, “I suppose I’m whatever I’m needed to be, wherever and whenever I’m needed to be it.” Rachel, from Chester-le-Street, joined the company after a six-month university placement, during which she made such a good impression she was offered a job on the spot.

“I wanted to look right for the interview so I borrowed my mam’s jacket,” remembers Rachel. “The manager at the time was Mrs Smith – I’m still in touch with her now - and she always says I stood out because I was so smart …and because my face was red from nerves. “She made me feel welcome though from the start – like I was part of the family - and so, when she offered me a job, I never went back to university, where I was reading hotel hospitality and management and I have been here ever since.”
The past quarter of a century has certainly seen the company expand and diversify and when owner John Adamson founded Ramside Event Catering, Rachel was an obvious choice to help support him as he built up the business.
“I started off as an assistant manager for the events team,” she said. “In fact, one of the earliest events was at a bar John owned called Saints Bar in Durham. “He decided to hold an Ibiza party, so we had some great DJs, all the staff were in swimwear and then I turned round and not only had John ordered in what must have been a tonne of sand but there, in the middle of it all, was a donkey. “It was one of the most surreal sights I’ve ever seen. Before or since. But that’s what I love about my role as John’s PA – the variety and the surprises.” While most PAs spend their days on office paperwork, managing diaries or issuing invoices, Rachel’s role is to turn her hand to whatever’s needed …. although she’s the first to admit that dog-sitting isn’t probably her forte. “Oh, that was a nightmare,” she said. “John asked me to look after his spaniel and take it to the grooming parlour to get it clipped. The poor thing came back completely scalped
- funnily enough, I didn’t get asked to do that again.” In the main, Rachel’s considerable organisational and management skills come into play overseeing private events at the company’s venues and dealing with customers’ enquiries. “Events are, by their very nature, customer-facing and I’ve always been a front of house person - I just love meeting people,” she says. “And it’s a big part of my job to ensure that all the elements of an event come together and – and this is always the most important thing – that everyone has a great time.” Her role has also brought her into regular contact with every venue and every member of staff. “Because I’ve been here from the beginning, so to speak, I know all the venues and everyone who works here, which is lovely,” she said. “The company’s gone – and continues to go - from strength to strength and I feel very fortunate to have been involved in every stage of it.”

This spectacular setting is just one of the reasons why Hardwick Hall Hotel is also one of the North East’s leading wedding venues. Licensed to hold civil ceremonies, the hotel’s choice of function rooms and suites means it is perfectly placed to host everything from small, intimate weddings to large-scale celebrations. During the summer months the Paddock Marquee, with its own private garden and lovely views, is a special venue for a traditional summer garden wedding and larger marquees – able to seat up to 1500 guests - are available during selected months of the year. In fact, these large marquees are one of the reasons that Hardwick Hall Hotel has become one of the North East’s major events destinations. Their capacity has enabled the venue to stage spectacular festivals and fund raisers and its Lobster Charity Ball, Hardwick Festival and annual North East Oyster Festival are now firm fixtures in the region’s social calendar.
Another strength is its catering – and, while most hotels have restaurants, few are destinations in their own right. Yet diners travel from far and wide to eat at The Rib Room, where succulent steaks are prepared and cooked from Durham-raised Hereford Beef, matured for 28 to 32 days and hung in the Rib Room Meat Locker – you can ask to see them if you wish. And, when the party is over, business concluded or the last glass of after dinner port has been drained, Hardwick Hall Hotel has a choice of 51 stunning and luxurious bedrooms. Lavish and individually designed, opulence is evident at every turn – from the exceptionally comfortable beds to the extra-large baths and walk in showers – not only meeting,
but exceeding, the expectations of even the most discerning guest. But, of course, a good hotel is always more than the sum of its parts and, as excellent as they are, the facilities at Hardwick Hall Hotel are only part of the story. What is most impressive is the attention to detail, the imagination and the energy that positively crackles around this venue – all of which ensures that people don’t just visit it; they remember it – and they return.
W
elcome to Hardwick Hall – a jewel in the crown of the Ramside Estates portfolio, with a growing reputation for offering the finest of, well, everything. On the outskirts of Sedgefield, within easy access of the A1 and A19, this is a venue with personality and with excellence, across all areas, firmly in its grasp. So, whether you are planning a relaxing overnight stay, attending a glittering ball or party or choosing Hardwick Hall as the backdrop for a business meeting, you couldn’t be in safer hands. Not only does it boast extensive conference facilities with free Wi-Fi and ample parking for private parties, business meetings and corporate events, but it is surrounded by the magnificent Hardwick Country Park.

LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION From weddings to conferences to huge corporate events, Hardwick Hall Hotel does it all – and does it well – with function rooms you can really make your own.
S
urrounded by Hardwick Country Park, the venue sets the scene for your event from the very moment your guests arrive – and that’s before they’ve even made it through the doors. With so many spaces to choose from, you may find it difficult to decide where to start, but one room which makes an impression from the outset is The Floral Chapel.
With wisteria climbing up a tall brick fireplace, exposed wooden beams and a mezzanine floor, it’s a hugely popular choice for weddings and can cater for up to 110 guests.
Perfect to give a party a sense of intimacy, the room is traditionally decorated and an ornately oil-painted ceiling gives the space a true sense of grandeur.
And with huge windows that bathe the room in natural light, it’s a location that your guests certainly won’t forget in a hurry.
Along with weddings, parties and private dining, the function rooms are also all fantastic choices for a corporate setting and the hotel is also home to a selection of boardrooms for smaller meetings and interviews.
Another option is the Coleman Suite, which can adapt to the size of your party to be one large space or split into three smaller sections, with two bars, two entrances and two separate reception areas. Mirrors adorning the walls reflect six magnificent crystal chandeliers and the space really comes alive when dressed for an event, with muted décor to give you the freedom to showcase your own personal style. But size isn’t everything and The Boyne Suite is an excellent option for a smaller gathering – accommodating up to 40 guests.

MARTIN CLOCKS UP MORE THAN 50 YEARS AT HARDWICK... Ask anyone on the staff at Hardwick Hall Hotel who Joao Tero Nimo Martins is and they might look a little perplexed, however if you just mention that you’re talking about “Martin” there’ll be an instant moment of recognition.
A
nd it’s hardly surprising, given that Martin has worked at the hotel for an astonishing 52 years and although now, at the sprightly age of 78, he may only be there a handful of days each week, he is certainly in no hurry to give his job up. Martin came to the North East from his native Madeira more than half a century ago, having previously worked at the iconic Reid’s Palace, a hotel with an international reputation for style and high end service. He was enticed to Hardwick by the late Mr Adamson Snr, father of the current owner, who had employed Martin to work at the Foxhunters pub he ran at nearby Whitley Bay, before inviting him to come and work at the hotel – and Martin never left.
“They have always treated me like part of the family,” said Martin. Martin started as a waiter, working his way up to restaurant manager but has worked in many different areas of the Ramside Estates businesses, including helping with the company’s outside catering operation. His wife Rita also worked at the hotel, with the pair working side by side for many years. As well as helping out at nearby Sedgefield Racecourse where Ramside looked after the food, Martin has also supported the team at special events. “It was very exciting, we met people like Mrs Thatcher and Sir Bobby Robson over the years,” he said.
Martin has watched the hotel grow and flourish over the decades and takes a personal pride in the success it has had. “It has changed a lot, with more bedrooms and different function rooms and it’s been amazing to see,” he said. It’s not surprising, given the amount of time he’s been at the hotel, that Martin has made many friends over the decades. “I’ve seen people come as children to eat here and then come back now with their children and grandchildren,” he said. And was he never tempted to go and work somewhere else? “Never,” he said. “My family are all close by but I have always been so happy here. I am not sure if you’d asked me years ago if I’d be here more than 50 years later that I would have said yes though!”

SET FOR SUMMER Let’s set the scene - huge stars performing their biggest hits, multiple stages showcasing a whole host of musical genres and glamping pods to retire to at the end of the day, all against the backdrop of a stunning country park.
Sure enough, in following years the festival continued to expand, introducing The Dome and Discovery Stage, a comedy line up, celebrity chefs and the children’s area, with something for even the smallest of music fans. Shedding the Garden Party name and simply becoming known as Hardwick Live, the event continued to welcome huge stars, including Pete Doherty, Madness, Kaiser Chiefs, Happy Mondays, Echo and the Bunnymen and Melanie C. While the big names certainly drew in the crowds, organisers were keen to celebrate our homegrown music scene and hosted a BBC Music Introducing stage for the first time in 2019 with ten rising stars hailing from Teesside and Newcastle. Continuing a year of firsts, the festival also welcomed global club brand Glitterbox to take over The Courtyard with a world-class DJ line-up, featuring Dave Lee ZR, Horse Meat Disco, The Shapeshifters and Melvo Baptiste. By now the event was a firm highlight of the summer for many North East music fans and entering its final rebrand – Hardwick Festival was born.
H
ardwick Festival is a permanent fixture on the North East calendar and no
wonder.
Recent years have brought big names like Rag’n’Bone Man, Manic Street Preachers, Nile Rodgers and CHIC and Ziggy Marley to the region, with plenty for fans to do across the site while you wait for your favourite act to take to the stage.
50
But the two day festival didn’t spring up overnight, with its first event in 2013 almost unrecognisable to the extravaganza it has become today. However, even in its first year organisers knew they had to put on something special, with multi-platinum pop rock band Texas headlining the Hardwick Live Garden Party and Jools Holland and his Rhythm and Blues Orchestra joining them on the line up.
John Adamson, is confident the event has many more years ahead of it.
“It’s fantastic to look back at the history of Hardwick Festival and see how much it has grown in such a relatively short span of time,” he said.
“Back when we were planning our first year we couldn’t even have imagined some of the huge names we would host and how popular it would go on to be. “The North East has a fantastic, diverse music scene with even more passionate fans and we always strive to have an event that reflects this – with something for all ages and across all genres to enjoy.”
After the success of its inaugural event, it was clear there was demand for a full weekend of entertainment and Simple Minds and The Jacksons signed on to take top spots across two days the following year. Fairground rides, a hot air balloon, a brass band, street entertainers and Morris dancers kept the fun alive across the weekend, along with the return of the DJ line up – which would only continue to grow as time went on.

MEET “THE BOSS”... To the team that work with her at Hardwick Hall Hotel, Margaret Hutchinson is simply known as “the boss.”
I
f you ask her what her title is she’ll say with a laugh, “general assistant, waitress, bad old b*****” – but given that she’s worked at the hotel since 1973 she’s entitled to make some irreverent remarks. Margaret is an integral part of the waiting team at the hotel and even though she now only works a few days a week, she is in no rush to give up her apron. It’s an amazing achievement, clocking up 48 years in one job when, particularly in Margaret’s case, it was a job she nearly didn’t take. “I didn’t really want a job at the time,” she admits.
54
“My husband was working and I was looking after our children. We came to Hardwick and I went to get a glass of coke and Mr Adamson Snr asked me if I wanted a job and I said I didn’t!” Margaret changed her mind however, starting off helping out by washing glasses.
“Then one day someone asked me if they could have a pint so I ended up serving them and it just grew from there,” she said. Margaret’s down-to-earth sense of humour is undoubtedly part of her charm, as she reveals that she
remembers the current owner, John Adamson, when he was child. “He was always a hard worker but he said to me a little while ago did I remember that I used to give him a clout,” she reveals with a laugh. “So I told him he must have deserved it!” Margaret’s husband also worked at Hardwick carrying out maintenance for more than 20 years but while he retired three years ago, she has no plans to stop. “They’re such a good team here and the youngsters call me ‘the boss’,” she said. “Although I only work three days a week now it’s still great to be part of it all.”

THE IMPECCABLE PIG
With sumptuous fur throws, private hot tubs and seven foot beds you can really sink into, The Impeccable Pig is far from a pigsty.
When the time to rest your head comes around then make your way to the Coach House at the rear of the building, where you will find ten delightfully individual rooms. And the good news is there’s two new rooms on the horizon, with the addition of Squealers and The Hefner, two suites which are perfect for adults with a sense of adventure. You won’t have to look far to spot the décor giving a nod to its namesake, from the huge framed portraits of pigs in top hats, to those of a ceramic variety sitting atop a fireplace. And there’s a room for every taste, with Parisian flair in Le Cochon D’or, Moroccan-inspired Pigsty, dull gold and elegant timber panelling in Oinkers or Globe Trotter, with its vintage globes and trunks. On the upper floor, reclaimed bricks, stick and straw textures give a nod to the classic tale in Three Little Pigs and you’ll find your eyes drawn to a floor-to-ceiling gold upholstered wall in Babe.
Exposed beams and deep navy tones give Piggly Wiggly and Pigs Might Fly a touch of elegance or, for something a little different, look no further than The Dirty Pig. With a gold wall, leopard print carpet, opulent fur throws and two gilded mirrors mounted on either side of a sloping ceiling – it’s certainly one you won’t forget in a hurry.

The venue – known for its eclectic décor and luxury accommodation -was named the AA Inn of the Year at this year’s AA Bed and Breakfast Awards. This prestigious honour means that The Impeccable Pig has been officially named the best in the country, beating off competition from every corner of the UK, The accolade has been even more important as it’s the second time that Ramside Estates have won this honour – although it was back in 1986, when the company owned the Dun Cow Inn also in Sedgefield. When you eat at The Impeccable Pig you are guaranteed to be treated like royalty – and that could be partially down to the fact that its head chef has cooked for them.

It’s this pride in what he does and his attention to detail which has helped build The Impeccable Pig’s reputation as a destination restaurant in its own right. Sunday lunches see people driving for miles to enjoy the traditional favourites – cooked to perfection by Dave and his team. “It’s such an important meal and we want people to have the best,” he said. “And hopefully that’s their experience every time they come to The Impeccable Pig.”

FOOD ON THE MOVE... From weddings to work events, conferences to county shows, there are as many reasons to gather people together as there are venues in which to host them.
B
ut one thing every gathering has in common is food – and that’s where Ramside Event Catering comes in. One of the largest privately-owned catering companies in the North East of England, we will cater for anywhere between 20 and 20,000 people – wherever they happen to be. So, whether you are holding your event in a marquee, village hall, historical building or your own home we will see to the food side of things, so you can concentrate on entertaining your guests and enjoying your party. We also know that what works for one will not work for all so, from the outset, our teams work with our clients so that, on the day – or evening – they can relax and enjoy the occasion, safe in the knowledge that everything really is catered for.

Operating extensively within Durham, Northumberland, Newcastle and Teesside we can create bespoke menus for everything from student balls and corporate dinners to county shows, music festivals and every type of family celebration. Versatile and completely mobile, our teams will go wherever they are needed and, in fact, the list of events we can cater for is as long as the list of dishes and menus we offer. So, fancy a hog roast? In a field? No problem. If you can provide the venue, we can provide the food. Indeed, our Durham-bred, farmreared pigs are slow cooked for more than 12 hours in speciality ovens and served with everything from floured bread rolls and apple sauce to goose fat roasted potatoes and salads.
Weddings, too, are a speciality. Because, while many venues have onsite catering, many don’t – and that’s where we come in. So, if you would like to treat guests to a formal wedding breakfast in a marquee in your own back garden, or opt for something less formal, such as fish and chips served straight from a van - we can make that happen. Our flexibility also makes us a popular choice for corporate events as our teams can turn their hands to everything from canapés drinks receptions and working lunches in the boardroom, to buffets for the AGM and seated banquets for gala dinners. We also have a wide range of mobile catering units that are perfect for festivals, county shows, wedding celebrations or corporate events serving a variety of street food. How about The Fishy Dishy, serving fish finger sarnies and scampi and chips, or The Impeccable Pig’s offering of barbecued pulled pork in a toasted brioche bun and beef and bean burgers with French fries? Quite simply, whatever the occasion and whichever – or wherever - the venue, rest assured Ramside has it all catered for.

every weekend – where the resident DJs play only the best house, disco and funk music into the early hours.
Rum drinkers have plenty of choice too, with more than 130 different types on offer, and there’s a wide variety of beers, ciders, premium spirits, wines, prosecco and champagne.
The bar is also the place to find some of the best national and international DJs, with a regular programme of visiting big names who bring their own particular brand of entertainment.
Part of Ramside Estate’s portfolio, this quirky venue is in the heart of Newcastle and is known as a standout venue – no mean feat in a city packed with places to eat and drink.
And the good news is that you don’t have to wait until the sun goes down to enjoy the Colonel Porter’s experience – tipsy afternoon tea anyone?
And it’s all inspired by Colonel Porter, the very man who invented Newcastle Brown Ale alongside chemist Archie Jones, so it’s only right that the bar offers a huge selection of drinks as a true tribute.
Tuck into finger sandwiches, quiches, scones and all manner of sweet treats paired either with gin and elderflower liqueur or with pimento dram, maraschino and a selection of plantation rums.
Cocktail fans can choose from all the usual suspects, such as a Mojito, Long Island Iced Tea or an Espresso Martini,
Should you find yourself in the bar on a Saturday night then you’re in for a treat because it’s Colonel’s House
Colonel Porter’s is also worth bearing in mind for anyone wanting to host an event in a truly memorable location. Step behind what looks like an innocent bookcase and find yourself in a secret room – the perfect place for celebrations, meetings or demonstrations with the wow factor.
This is the mysterious world of Archie’s Lab, a private room like no other where you can entertain friends or clients, host a stag or hen night, celebrate a birthday or special occasion – or just book it for no special reason other than you want to have some fun! Part tavern, botanical garden and rhum bar, Colonel Porter’s Emporium certainly lives up to its name – with something for everyone all under one roof.

SAY “I DO” TO RAMSIDE ESTATES Imagine your perfect wedding day, is it a small celebration with close family and friends, a grand affair in a sparkling ballroom or perhaps even having a venue all to yourself ?
W
ell, you’re in luck because Ramside Estates can cater for all three – and any other day you might have in mind – with versatile function rooms and stunning surroundings. Take Ramside Hall Hotel, Golf and Spa for example. One of the appeals for many grooms and brides-to-be is that it is home to spaces which can fit hundreds of guests, like The Bishops Suite, The Ballroom and the Summer Marquee. After all, with crystal chandeliers, private reception areas and built-in
68
And if you travel just a short distance from Bowburn then you will happen upon Hardwick Hall Hotel – another option which has plenty to offer. You may have noticed that one thing all Ramside Estates venues have in common are spectacular views and Hardwick certainly doesn’t let the side down. Surrounded by the stunning Hardwick Country Park and offering a breathtaking view across the Country Park Lake, it’s a location your guests won’t forget in a hurry.
But the special thing about the venue is that smaller parties can still enjoy the grandeur in The Fountain Room, The Green Room or the luxury treehouses.
Not only does it stick to hosting one wedding a day, but it also offers couples the option to hire the entire hotel and grounds so your celebration will feel truly intimate – no matter the number of guests.
And with hundreds of acres of private grounds to take in, the hotel offers a spectacular backdrop for your first photos as a married couple.
Summer weddings can make the most of a beautifully landscaped garden, with the happy couple exchanging their vows under an ornate gazebo.
From huge numbers to intimate parties, you’re sure to find what you’re looking for in The Floral Chapel, the Boyne Suite, the Coleman Suite or the Paddock Marquee, with a room to fit every guestlist.
From a venue with 127 bedrooms to one with just 20 – not forgetting its five garden lodges, of course – those getting married at Bowburn Hall Hotel are guaranteed exclusivity.
But if you choose to spend your day in the ballroom then you don’t have to worry about missing out on the view, with concertina windows overlooking the picturesque lawn.
With an expert wedding team at every venue you can rest assured that you’ll be in safe hands, so all that’s left to do is decide which one is the perfect fit for you.

After all, with a choice of bedrooms, including a mezzanine overlooking a lavish lounge area, what could be better to wake up in style in the very same venue you tied the knot? Then it’s just a matter of deciding how to spend your first full day as newlyweds. One option would be to make the most of the expert chefs at Ramside Hall Hotel and have breakfast cooked and served in your treehouse without even having to lift a finger. Or, with an award-winning spa just a short distance across the grounds, it seems a shame not to make time for a couple’s massage or spend an afternoon lounging by the pool. With the development of additional treehouses currently underway, there’s soon to be even more choice if your heart is set on Ramside Hall Hotel, with one designed specifically with intimate weddings in mind.
T
ucked away in the grounds of Ramside Hall Hotel, the luxury treehouses offer a truly unique location with a spectacular exterior and opulent décor behind its doors. While lots of people dream of a big white wedding, we know that’s not for everyone, so the treehouses offer a stunning alternative if you’re planning an intimate celebration. You and your partner can tie the knot surrounded by an exclusive guestlist of your nearest and dearest, with space to accommodate up to 30 guests. AWARD WINNING BOUTIQUE WITH EXQUISITE GOWNS AND A REPUTATION FOR EXCELLENCE
BEAUTIFUL BRIDES You may only wear your wedding dress for one day but it happens to be a pretty special one, so choosing the perfect gown is no mean feat.
L
uckily for you there are plenty of options out there to suit every bride, whether you are leaning towards something simple and elegant or prefer a bold design to make a statement.
First, let’s talk about lace. Not only is it currently one of the big trends but it’s been a popular choice for decades – with good reason. A lace overlay is a great way to add some texture to your look, while opting for a lace bodice will draw your guests’ eyes to the intricate details against the contrast of a plain white skirt. And speaking of skirts, the next thing to consider is your train.
76
If you’re looking for something subtle then try a sweep train – with its short length meaning it’s a great idea if you’re planning on getting married outdoors – while a longer chapel train adds an element of drama for a more formal venue. But if you really want to make an impact then a cathedral train is probably the choice for you. At around 22 inches long, it certainly makes a statement and it’s sure to make you feel like a princess on your special day. Now you’ve pictured your skirt, it’s time to think about necklines. There are endless options out there, from scoop to portrait, and it’s a case of finding the one that suits you best.
Images courtesy of Blue Bow Bridal www.bluebowbridal.co.uk
Many necklines elongate the torso, including the stylish v-neck and the romantic sweetheart design – named for its resemblance to a heart. And a daring bride may decide to try a plunging neckline, which can be dressed up or down with elegant sleeves or delicate straps. However, if the idea makes you a little nervous then try the illusion style, which keeps all the flair of the plunging fabric but with the addition of a soft, sheer piece of tulle or lace to give you piece of mind during your day. One more thing to consider when choosing your gown is how you’ll look from behind. While usually that’s the last thing on our minds, your wedding day is one that’s likely to be photographed from every angle. Perhaps you have envisioned an elegant backless gown, intricate lace straps or subtle beading or buttons.
The most important thing is that you feel as good as you look when you wear it and we’re firm believers that when you find the one – you just know.

BOWBURN’S HEAD HONCHO
Proud to be a supplier of Ramside Estates for over 10 years
When sixth former Tom Pallister was waiting on tables at Ramside Hall Hotel, little did he think that, just five years later, he would be running its sister venue, Bowburn Hall Hotel ...
“
T
o be quite honest,” said Tom, now 23, “back then I didn’t have a career plan and I hadn’t given the hospitality industry much thought – but the senior team really mentored me and encouraged me to push myself.” At just 18-years-old Tom was appointed duty manager at Ramside Hall and spent the next four years learning the ropes “from some of the best in the business,” before being asked to head up the 45-strong team at Bowburn Hall Hotel. While Tom may seem impossibly young to hold such an important job, it highlights the faith put in him by John Adamson, owner of Ramside Estates. “Tom showed exceptional talent and I could see he was a real asset,” revealed John.
88
“And at Ramside we have a policy of promoting from within, so when the opportunity arose I had no hesitation in giving Tom the job at Bowburn.” This elegant, country house hotel, in its own landscaped grounds, not only welcomes overnight residents to its 20 rooms and five garden lodges but its renowned restaurant and function rooms make it one of the county’s most sought after wedding venues. “That’s one of the aspects of Bowburn I love most,” said Tom, from Chesterle-Street. “There really is a family feel here and anyone who books with us knows they will get a personal service from their initial enquiry until the very end of their stay or event. “When you are chosen for big events such as weddings, every element
could have anticipated how that was going to unfold. “Everything has had to be revised according to the changing regulations but thankfully things are getting back to normal now. “I have been lucky too in that I was able to draw on support and advice from our other managers – it’s great knowing you have people around you in the organisation. “The company has also invested heavily in outside facilities and we are lucky in having fantastic grounds, so it’s been great having that additional offering for our guests to eat and drink in.” Although Tom admits his career in hospitality started almost by accident he says he wouldn’t change it for the world.
“Don’t get me wrong, it’s hard work and the hours are very long but ensuring our guests have the best possible experience … well there isn’t anything more rewarding than that.”

legends, such as Ronnie O’Sullivan or Peter Beardsley? Fine by us. We are also mindful of the immense pressure many clubs and associations are under during these difficult trading conditions, so we offer free room hire dependent on numbers, a late bar until midnight, catering packages and we even provide two high quality raffle or auction prizes. And not only do we have the space, the stage, the sound system to help you, but thanks to our sister company, Ramside Events, we can produce superb food from whichever global cuisine takes your fancy.
Instead, you can let your imagination run riot and dress the room however you see fit. And if you want troupes of high kicking dancing girls, we have space for those. If you want to beam images onto the walls, that’s fine and if you want to transform the venue into a 1920s speakeasy or a Bollywood film set
So, it’s no surprise that we are event organisers’ first choice when it comes to sporting dinners and glossy product launches but, as families and businesses the length and breadth of the region also know, no one hosts a party quite like we do.
THE FED… It’s often been said that, here in the North East, we know how to party – and the biggest and best events are held at The Fed, the new name for a much-loved venue.
I
t’s one of the region’s biggest venues and now it’s getting a new name, a new look and a massive amount of investment. At the time of writing The Fed – formerly Gateshead’s The Lancastrian Suite – was preparing for a £500,000 makeover which will make it one of the North East’s largest and most exciting venues.
90
Ramside Estates has operated the site for the past 15 years but now owns it completely, which means it’s taking full advantage of the Ramside touch.
Its new look will see The Fed have a modern, almost industrial style with a polished concrete floor and stripped back walls. New food pods are being added so that events can have street food style catering as an option. Perfectly located - with easy access from Durham to the south and Newcastle to the north - it is
home to one of the largest capacity function rooms in the region, holding up to 750 guests for a sit down dinner.
Which also makes it perfect for a large conference, a product launch or a business exhibition. So, you want to host a gala dinner? No problem. For hundreds of people? No problem. In the company of some serious sporting
Over the years, The Fed has been the venue of choice for thousands of birthday, christening and Christmas celebrations – in fact our own festive party nights have become a hot ticket for anyone who wants to see the season in in style, from groups of friends to small businesses looking to treat their colleagues and customers. One of the venue’s strengths is that it is, in event terms, a blank canvas. There are no historic features, such as low ceilings or awkward room shapes to contend with, no pillars to impede a guest’s view and no over the top décor dictating the theme of the event.
that’s fine, too. And on the subject of Bollywood, we’ve earned something of a name for ourselves when it comes to hosting weddings – and large scale, lavish Asian ones in particular. And the reasons for this are many. We have the space, we have ample on-site parking but most of all we have the experience. Every one of our small but perfectly formed group of key staff has worked at The Fed for a decade or more. For every occasion, they are able to draw on their vast bank of experience – not to mention their unparalleled network of suppliers and contacts - to ensure that every element runs smoothly and exactly as requested. So, in terms of event handling, there is nothing you can throw at them that they can’t catch. At The Fed you – and your event – are certainly in the safest of hands.

WONDERFUL WONDERBAR
If it’s a lively night out in Newcastle that you’re after there’s only one place to head to - and that’s The WonderBar at The Gate.
I
n a city renowned for its vibrant nightlife, you have to be pretty special to stand out from the crowd and the bar’s mix of sport, entertainment, great food and live music does just that – making it a goto place for everyone. The bar regularly screens football, rugby, cricket and tennis matches on their large HD TVs so supporters can join other fans in rooting for their favourite teams. And if you’d rather participate than watch, then try your hand at 21st century darts, which uses touch screen technology and automatic scoreboards to bring this popular pub pastime bang up to date. While you’re waiting for your turn at the oche you can order a dish or two to enjoy in between turns, with everything from sharing platters to hanging kebabs on the menu. Pub classics include mac and cheese, fish and chips and gammon and eggs, with pizzas, burgers, sandwiches, breakfasts and a range of small plates on offer too.
92
The bar that does it all even offers a traditional Sunday lunch, or the choice of a Sunday carvery stack sandwich, with vegan options available across the menu so all diners can make the most of their visit. And the venue often welcomes a rotating line-up of the North East’s best up and coming performers to the stage – so you never know when you might just be listening to one of the region’s next rising stars.
Regular DJ slots, student nights, live music, crazy bingo and bottomless prosecco brunches are just some of the activities that are on offer. So when it comes to delivering a great night out on the town, somewhere to catch up with friends for lunch or a new spot for a date night, The WonderBar certainly scores a bullseye.

here are bars, restaurants, hotels, event venues – and now Ramside Estates is adding serviced apartments to its evergrowing portfolio. And of course, as you would expect, these aren’t any run of the mill apartments, but those which reflect the style, character and sheer uniqueness of any Ramside property. The first clue is the name. This large, terraced house at Victoria Terrace is currently undergoing a transformation to become none other than The Funky Monk.

a problem thanks to the addition of sofa beds in each one.
While the “real” Funky Monk may be a work of fiction, he is being immortalised in the serviced apartments being developed in his name.
If you choose to stay on the ground floor then the two bedroomed apartment has a little something extra to enjoy, with a large conservatory currently being built.
The promise is that those who stay at the Funky Monk will have an experience they are unlikely to forget – in a setting which is quirky, stylish and very different
And the ground floor is the place to be to celebrate a special occasion, with each apartment home to its own external terrace with a private hot tub.
While still currently in the design process, there are big plans for the five apartments with each one individually decorated in a unique style. And the team are keen to retain the building’s character, with original brickwork, exposed conduits and timber panelling likely to make an appearance in its final form.
Along with turning this building into five, highly individual apartments, the designers have even created a fabulous story to go alongside it.
Designs for stained glass windows are currently being drawn up – with a cheeky nod to the man himself, of course – and guests can make the most of luxurious bathrooms, complete with large, circular copper baths.
They have envisaged their own Funky Monk, a man of the cloth but with a wild streak, and it is this creation that

Two apartments have been knocked into one to create this impressive space and it’s a great choice for families or groups, with three bedrooms to choose from. “We saw the huge potential for the building as soon as we viewed it,” said John Adamson, Managing Director at Ramside Estates, “and it was too good an opportunity to miss. “The space has been totally stripped back so we can build it up to be something which really makes an impact, with a number of bespoke features guests won’t see anywhere else. “The Funky Monk is like nothing Ramside Estates has done before and the finished project is sure to be something really spectacular.”

And not only does it live up to its name – and its location – with the décor, but it’s also home to eight large screens, making it the perfect place to see all of the latest games and matches. From football to boxing, head to the bar to join other fans and root for your favourite players, where you can also raise a glass to the team – or drown your sorrows – depending on the outcome. Of course, if you’re travelling to Emirates Riverside then there’s a good
chance you’re heading there to watch a match, so why not stop off at The Sticky Wicket beforehand for a pregame tipple or a hearty meal?
Wine, beer, fizz, cocktails and cider are all on the menu, and there are more than 10 different types of gin to choose from. There’s also a huge choice of food, catering for everything from light bites to a multi-course meal, including a range of vegan options. Take the family for classic pub grub in the form of mince and dumplings, a parmo or fish and chips, or go all out with sirloin steak, lamb shank or salmon Niçoise.
For a mid-game snack, why not try nachos topped with either cheese sauce, pulled pork or pulled beef chilli? Or, choose from a variety of burgers, pizzas, sandwiches, salads and sides, including homemade chips and mac and cheese. While Emirates Riverside often hosts world-class artists on tour, live music is also on the menu at the bar – where it regularly gives a platform to local artists from a variety of different genres. And The Sticky Wicket is also a fantastic place to host an event, whether you want to book out a small area for an intimate gathering or plan a large celebration using the whole venue. It wouldn’t be a proper party without food, so opt for either canapes or a buffet, choosing from set menus, a hog roast, nibbles, bowls, sandwiches or plated food, to give your guests a night they’ll really remember. A great place to catch up with friends, drop in for a drink or take the whole family – The Sticky Wicket has all bases covered.

ne of the most rewarding aspects of our annual events calendar is the opportunity to support local charities close to our hearts. Teesside-based Daisy Chain is one of our chosen charities, which offers services and support to autistic people and their families and recently launched a telephone line so their reach can extend even further. Through our fundraising at the Lobster Ball and other initiatives, the charity has provided essential frontline services for autistic children, young people and adults, including bespoke sessions and wellbeing support. Due to the devastating impact the pandemic had on our ability to host events, we had to think outside of the box and recently donated a wedding package at Hardwick Hall Hotel, which Daisy Chain was able to offer as a prize to a fundraising couple. In 2017 a team from the company took part in a walk in China to raise money for Butterwick Hospice and John Adamson, who owns Ramside Estates, is currently planning a Machu Picchu trek with his team in early 2022 to raise money for Daisy Chain. Daisy Chain CEO, Neeraj Sharma, said: “We have worked with Ramside Estates for around a decade and the relationship has led to tens of thousands of pounds being raised.
“This incredible level of generosity has meant that we have been able to sustain and grow the vital services that hundreds of autistic individuals depend on.” Our second chosen charity, The Angel Trust, supports people living in Darlington and County Durham – aiming to improve the local community and make life better for those living there. Along with benefitting from our popular Oyster Festival, they host their annual Ladies Day at our venue, with more than £70,000 raised from the two events to go towards funding community and sports groups and helping those facing illness, deprivation or life emergencies. Many people found themselves needing extra support during the pandemic and The Angel Trust rushed to help, providing more than 200 boredom packs to isolating families and more than 2000 food parcels to vulnerable people.

Ellie Crampton, of The Angel Trust, said “All of us would like to thank Ramside Hall Hotel for their generosity in helping us raise funds and of course, for all the support from their staff and guests.” And that’s not all. Ramside Estates has given its support to numerous sporting organisations and events including near-by Sedgefield Rugby Club along with Durham’s Lumiere festival, the largest light festival in the UK.

As fun as it is – and it really is great fun to both organise and attend – we never forget that one of the reasons we created the Oyster Festival in the first place was to help those in our region who do such vital work.
“We are very proud that, thanks to the generosity of our guests and of local businesses which offer sponsorship and auction prizes, we have raised more than £1.3m for good causes right here in the North East,” said Ramside Estates’ owner John Adamson.

But of course it doesn’t stop there. Not to be outdone, every September the grand marquee turns its attention to another jewel of the sea when the North East Oyster Festival takes place.
We struck Gold the year Spandau Ballet’s Tony Hadley took to the stage, while no one who was there will ever forget comedian Bobby Davro’s turn behind the mic.
Like a day at the races, but without the horses, the Oyster Festival welcomes ladies dressed to impress and men in smart suits for a day of Champagne and …you guessed it …oysters.
The voice of M People, Heather Small made us all very proud back in 2019,
while singing sensation Gabrielle, the voice behind 1990s classics such as Dreams, Give me a Little More Time, Walk on By and Rise, wowed guests the previous year. And, while we welcome an everchanging kaleidoscope of stars, each year the entertainment is gallantly underpinned by North East compere
Among those which have benefitted are Butterwick Hospice Care, whose hospices at Stockton and Bishop Auckland care for people of all ages with progressive life-limiting illnesses. “We have also been able to help The Angel Trust, which offers a range of support and services to those in need in Darlington and County Durham and funds projects which improve the local community,” said John. “And that’s what it’s all about.”
But that’s just the start because, as guests sit down in our spectacular marquee for a three-course fruits de mer menu – with oysters from various parts of the UK as the centrepiece washed down with complimentary beer, wine and lager, some of the entertainment world’s biggest stars take to the stage. Over the years our musical line up has been as glittering and sparkling as our guests’ evening gowns and cocktail frocks. Eighties icon Paul Young has laid down his hat at our Oyster Festival, as has soul singer Diane Shaw who has performed alongside legends like

Playable year round, the Cathedral and Prince Bishops’ courses are open to members and nonmembers alike and the club offers a range of membership options. Membership also includes benefits such as pro-club discounts, entry into competitions and full use of the sauna and steam room in the clubhouse.

amside Golf Club’s teaching professionals provide golf coaching to players of all abilities, from complete beginners through to elite level. In fact, under the expert guidance of PGA Professional Phil Redpath and golf coach Robert Lister, three of our young players recently saw off competition from 25 clubs from across the UK to win England Golf’s 2021 Junior Champion Club. Phil and Robert were recently joined at Ramside by leading PGA Euro Pro Tour player Wayne Feeney. Wayne’s interest in golf began when his family moved to a house opposite Hobson Golf Club at Burnopfield and, since he turned Pro in 2016, he has played two seasons on the PGA Euro Pro Tour with two top 10 finishes in regional PGA events. In October 2020, he finished in the top five of the PGA Euro Pro Tour Qualifying School at the Players Club Bristol to secure his Tour Card for the 2021 season, sponsored by HQBS Energy Solutions.

DRIVING FORWARD … from golf balls and brushes to towels, hats and visors - to ensure you get the most out of your game, whatever the weather. As every golfer knows, practice is crucial and that’s why we are also creating a new driving range to replace our existing one.
When it comes to our Golf Club we don’t like to let the grass grow (unless it’s in the rough, that is) and we have some spectacular plans in the pipeline…
G
olf at Ramside has been a favourite for countless years – but it’s about to become even higher profile, with an ambitious and exciting investment programme which will open the game to people of all ages. At the heart of the plans is the creation of a golf academy which will be a centre of excellence with the aim of attracting both national and international players. An indoor putting green and adventure golf – which it is hoped will be a great attraction for families – are also part of the scheme which – at the time of writing – will be getting underway in the very near future.
And, for those who would sooner play sport than watch it, there will be indoor simulators, so you can virtually play some of the world’s most famous courses. There will also be bowling lanes for the whole family to enjoy, along with flight darts for those with an eagle eye and a steady hand. Back to the golf and a new retail outlet will enable shoppers to look the part with clothing from top sports brands along with every accessory you need –
This will be built in two tiers of between 18 and 20 bays, each of which will be fitted with the latest technology, tracking the flight of the ball, its loft and its distance so you can see at a glance how your drive is improving. And, if you decide your game could do with a little expert guidance, there will be a raft of new indoor teaching facilities for players of all ages and abilities.

Helen Roseberry, Director of Golf at Ramside Hall Golf Club, is confident it will be a hit – not just with committed golfers but with sports fans from across the region and beyond. “Our aim is to make the Club a go-to destination whether you are playing a round of golf or not,” she said. “So there will be a combination of superb facilities to sharpen your game but also activities other members of the family or friends might enjoy along with the superb food, drink and hospitality you would expect from Ramside Hall.”
Affectionally called the 19th hole, the clubhouse is the cornerstone of every golf club – and ours is about to get a ‘hole’ lot better. Plans are afoot to turn it into a destination in its own right - starting with the addition to the existing building of a sports bar, enabling lovers of almost every televised sport to watch their favourite teams and players on a series of big screens.
