Otaku World Big News for Cowboy Bebop Fans Keanu Reeves Confirms Live-Action Cowboy Bebop Involvement December 17, 2008 Source: MTV by Alex Billington
We first reported a rumor way back in July that Keanu Reeves was cast as Spike Spiegel in an in-development Cowboy Bebop liveaction adaptation. Not much has been mentioned about it since then, however, MTV talked with Reeves recently and finally got confirmation on his involvement - "we're trying to do that," Reeves said. As originally reported, Fox producer Erwin Stoff is developing the project and an unannounced writer is working on the screenplay. In addition to confirming his involvement, Reeves shared some early details on the project, including ideas for the story that they're hoping to put together. "It's so episodic and so disconnected - we're trying to figure out what pieces to put together to tell one story." Reeves says of his appreciation for groundbreaking anime series: "It's got a western quality, a western film noir aspect to it. It's got so much style to it, and that's part of its appeal. That kind of Old West, bordertown, low-tech science fiction aspect." As for adapting it, Reeves admits it will be a challenge, but adds that "that's why you want to do it." As for the style that he mentioned, Reeves says that this project "would be a production designer’s dream - I think you just need a good production designer." I couldn't agree more, but obviously it all starts with the director and as far as we know, they haven't found one yet.
"Because it's such a short form, to make a 2 hour version [will be tough]. And it's got so much of an origin-story obligation; you've got to get people up to speed, but you don't want to do much of that. There are a lot of things to take into consideration, but we think we can do something good." I know fans of the series are already very skeptical, considering our first article on Reeves racked up some 118 comments, most of them complaining about Hollywood ruining great anime and Reeves' attachment. However, based on Reeves' statements here, I've got a feeling that this isn't going to turn out as bad as Dragonball Evolution in the end. ASU NO YOICHI Synopsis A boy trained by his father in the way of the "Ukiha Kamikaze" swordplay, Yoichi, has lived in the mountains, far from civilzation for all seventeen years of his life. His father finds nothing more to teach him, and sends him to the city to lodge at the Ikaruga dojo to further his mental and physical capabilities. Four sisters live in the dojo and Yoichi begins a new more severe "training" regimen.
The story begins during the Sung Dynasty of ancient China. The country is in great chaos due to the infamous Jin Kang Rebellion. Fearing the possible destruction that is sure to ensue, Concubine Liu tearfully entrusts the care of her baby daughter, Princess Yi Fu, to a common citizen named Tang Hui. Tang Hui immediately escapes with the princess to the south. And so, Princess Yi Fu's whereabouts become a mystery. Now, ten years later, the Tang have returned to power and the great family wishes for all exiled family members to return. But Zi Li is happy with her life. She knows that returning means giving up her love; for a peasant could never court a princess. And courtship between a princess and a palace warrior is equally frowned upon. But that does little to quell the fire that burns inside Zhong Lu—a famed warrior charged with the task of finding and restoring the princess to the throne.
Review This series is hilarious. I could not stop laughing at times. It is a combination of Rurouni Kenshin and Full Metal Panic, with some fan service thrown in here and there. Overall, it is very entertaining.

B.O.D.Y. Vol. 1-4 Plot Summary: This is a book about two twins named Siva and Cipher, who since entering high school have taken turns going to school and work as a model/actor under the name "Siva." When a girl at school finds this out she is not given a reason, but instead a two week basis in which she lives with them to try and be able to tell them apart without asking. At the end of the two weeks if able to tell the brothers apart, they have agreed to tell her the reason why they switch off. Ouran High School Host Club Vol. 110 Plot Summary: All Nobara ever wanted to do was to play volleyball. However, since she's the eldest daughter of her family's establishment, her family wants her to inherit the role of the young mistress. And when she enters a new school, she finds out that her mother went as far as to cancel the girls' volleyball team. Out of anger, Nobara ran away from home, and went for her aunt's help. Her aunt ended up taking her to the boys' dorm for the boy volleyball players, and had her get the role of the dorm mom. Now, Nobara has to deal with finding a way to get the girls' volleyball team back, and, for the first time, learn how to clean and do all the housework. Wild Ones Vol. 1-2 Plot Summary: Kazuha Akiyoshi is the responsible oldest daughter in a large family. She attends an all-girls high school with her best friend Senko and has a crush on her little brother's kindergarten teacher. During her high school festival, she is shocked when a handsome hairstylist, Maki Sugimoto, who's helping at the festival, makes it obvious that he's interested in her. Complicating matters are Senko's infatuation with Maki, which makes Kazuha feel guilty about her developing feelings. The story also deals with several other relationships in Kazuha and Maki's group of friends.

Anime: Asakiyumemishi - The Tale of Genji Airing: January 15, 2009 Links: http://asakiyumemishi-anime.com/ Wikipedia Synopsis: The work recounts the life of a son of a Japanese emperor, known to readers as Hikaru Genji, or "Shining Genji". Neither appellation is his actual name: Genji (源氏, Genji) is simply another way to read the Chinese characters for the real-life Minamoto clan (源の氏, Minamoto-no-Uji), to which Genji was made to belong. For political reasons, Genji is relegated to commoner status (by being given the surname Minamoto) and begins a career as an imperial officer. The tale concentrates on Genji’s romantic life and describes the customs of the aristocratic society of the time. Much is made of Genji’s good looks. His most important personality trait is the loyalty he shows to all the women in his life, as he never abandons any of his wives. When he finally becomes the most powerful man in the capital, he moves into a palace and provides for each of them.

By juxtaposing depictions of samurai in Edo era woodblock prints, ink paintings, historical photographs, animation cels and drawings, original manga panels, and toys, the exhibition will demonstrate the ongoing links between fine art and popular culture in Japan.
