Hello All! We would like to welcome you to the Rintaki Anime Club Society’s Newsletter for October 2009. For this month we would like to report a few things. First of all we are having our very first screening since January in December 2009 at Merced County Library. We could use any volunteers to help us out. Please watch out for our flyers in the Library and around town. The next thing we would like to report is that the club will no longer have a private library due to costs of merchandise. If we get more products, then we will consider reopening the RAC Library. However, you can use the Merced County Library to order Graphic Novels and Anime DVDs, just ask someone at the front desk and they will show you how to do it. Please be thoughtful and return books as soon as you are done, a gracious period of about 21 days are given to return most books, please talk to some at the library for more information. The final report I would like to make is this, we are in the process VOLUME 2, ISSUE 5

of creating a workshop about anime or manga to be held in the library next year, if you have any ideas, please let us know. Also, it will more than likely be on a Tuesday evening, so if you would like to come to the workshop or help to explain anything, please let us know via e-mail or phone.

Kokaku Detective Story

bodyguard agency, solving cases and saving the damsels in distress. When he runs into the skilled and witty Yuuki, he thinks he's found the perfect partner -- until he learns that Yuuki is a trained assassin who seems to know his every secret.

New Releases

Portrait of M & N

Originally featured in Beans Ace Magazine as Kokaku Torimono Cho, Kokaku Detective Story is a historical mystery series about a devil-may-care samurai whose casual demeanor disguises his ability to solve whatever cases come his way. While Columbo is a slob and Monk is obsessive compulsive, Kokaku has a quirk of his own: he loves eating chili peppers. So how this little twist gets woven into this unconventional detective tale is something we'll just have to discover when this story makes its debut in 2010.

Game X Rush

is a new title from the creator of NG Life and Mugen Spiral, a series that was "a surprise hit for us," said Diaz-Przybyl. From the description on TokyoPop's website, this sounds like bishonen-laced action tale that should please fans of hot guys and hot drama:

Karakuri Odette

Miracle Train The May issue of Kadokawa Shoten's Newtype magazine will announce on Friday that an anime adaptation of Miracle Train, the anthropomorphization of Tokyo's Chuo Line train stations, has been green-lit. Tomohisa Kai (Sentimental Graffiti, Marginal Prince) designed the moe boy characters based on the the heavily travelled Japan Railways train line that runs east to west through the heart of Tokyo. Yumeta Company is producing the animation. A web manga already started last month, while a novel version began on March 16. Five of the Chūō train stations have been turned into the proud leader Zero Tōkyō (Hiroyuki Yoshino, center of image), the girl-wooing Shintarō Shinjuku (Ryotaro Okiayu, far left), the ramen-loving Otaku Riku Nakano (Hiroshi Kamiya, center right), the charming yet acerbic Takuto Kichijōji (Miyu Irino, center left), and the gentle yet risk-taking Lune Tachikawa (Kouki Miyata, far right). The anime version will be the first anime based on a title from Yomban, Bandai Visual's original content website.

Hello All! I wanted to write something about our mascot and how she came about, but I thought it would be cheesy and then I wanted to feature the various versions of Rinaka. But….I didn’t think it would work out because we only have two versions besides the original and chibi original. So I combined both. He he he he. So Rinaka actually means…in Japanese. At first I used Rinka which means…but I liked Rinaka better. I wanted her name to have “Rin” in it just like the club. The character actually was created by Autumn Lorne. I wasn’t sure what I wanted her to look like, just what colors she would wear and her main clothes styles. So I opened a contest on Deviant Art and only two people entered. Autumn Lorne and… The club members and I debated for about 20 minutes on which one to choose. We went through the pros and cons of each mascot and finally chose the wolf girl (#1). So the other entry is being used as a secondary mascot (#D). Once the wolf girl was approved however, I commissioned Autumn to make an official design (#3) with the colors I wanted so Autumn gave me a sort of palette of colors to use for Rinaka (#2). I also had her do some other commissions and some were of Rinaka in her chibi form (#4). So after that I opened another contest for the design for our Anime Expo Tees (#A). Then a member submitted artwork of Rinaka in her chibi form (#B). I vectored it (#C) and then colored it to be used on the club site and also for merchandise (#E). Well, I hope this was interesting for you readers on how we got our mascot and the mystery behind the name. Thanks for reading!
