NINA BEDNARSKI Caestecker Gallery, Rodman Center This Milwaukee-based multimedia artist uses landscape as a springboard to pay homage to nature’s perfection while blurring the line between urban and bucolic. Her eyes rest on folk art, street art, historic buildings, Japanese woodcuts, Fauvists, Surrealists, art deco, wallpaper design, subways, birds, water, migrations, gardens and truth. Artist’s talk at 7 p.m. Jan. 27 in Rodman Center lobby; reception follows in the gallery.

CHAMBER MUSIC AND JAZZ AT RIPON SERIES: KATIE ERNST: LITTLE WORDS 7:30 p.m., Demmer Recital Hall, Rodman Center Bassist, vocalist and composer Katie Ernst sets Dorothy Parker poetry to music. Her song cycle, Little Words, is performed by a quartet and has been praised by the Chicago Tribune as “an ethereal, oft-haunting suite … a gentle, disarming work that stands out for its intimacy in an often-raucous world.”

JEREMY WINEBERG Caestecker Gallery, Rodman Center This designer, educator and visual artist works in painting, drawing, sculpture, video and installation. His work has been shown across the United States and recently has dealt with mapping, synthenasia, psychogeography, chaos and gravity. He lives in Madison, Wisconsin, where he also co-curates the Little Galleries (www.littlegalleries.org) and is a contributing writer to the art blog Spackle Madison. ONE-ACT PLAY FESTIVAL 7:30 p.m., Benstead Theatre, Rodman Center A celebration of short plays presented by young directors. APRIL 28 TO MAY 14, 2017

7:30 p.m., Benstead Theatre, Rodman Center The Bard’s landmark tragicomedy of deception and sexual blackmail stretching from the brothel and the prison to the city master’s chamber. Friends of the Arts reception with in-depth play discussion, 6-7 p.m. in Rodman Center.

ROB NEILSON Caestecker Gallery, Rodman Center The son of a Detroit steelworker, Rob Neilson, utilizes quotidien, “normalized” imagery for his sculptures, which have been commissioned for public and private collections. His work can be seen at Chicago Navy Pier and Chase Park in Long Beach, California. He is an associate professor of art at Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin. CHAMBER MUSIC AND JAZZ AT RIPON SERIES: COR CONTIAMO 7:30 p.m., Demmer Recital Hall, Rodman Center Cor Cantiamo is a professional choral ensemble focusing on contemporary composers and new choral music. Recently, they have collaborated with such luminaries as Morten Lauridsen and Jaakko Mäntyjärvi. Their newest CD is on the prestigious Soli Deo Gloria label.

CHAMBER MUSIC & JAZZ AT RIPON SERIES: INTERSECTION TRIO 4 p.m.., Demmer Recital Hall, Rodman Center One of the most exciting new groups in chamber music, Intersection Trio (piano, violin, cello), was described by the Los Angeles Times as having “diamond-hard brilliance, uncommonly poetic depths … breathtaking in precision, dexterity and unanimity of attack. Stunning.” This performance is the annual Lynn Northrop Memorial Concert. OCT. 5 TO 8, 2016

CAESTECKER FINE ARTS SERIES: MILWAUKEE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA 4 p.m., Ripon High School Auditorium, 850 Tiger Drive Wisconsin’s largest cultural organization returns to Ripon College for its 44th appearance. Admission to this year’s performance is free as a give-back and thank-you to the community. Caestecker Gallery, Rodman Center John Hitchcock uses the print medium with its long history of social and political commentary to explore relationships of community, land and culture. Hitchcock’s works on paper and multimedia installation consists of prints and moving image that mediate the trauma of war and the fragility of life. Hitchcock is faculty director of The Studio-Creative Arts & Design Community and a professor of art at the University of WisconsinMadison. This has led to the latest album by his group, the Blacktet, 2016’s The Way We Play. “… His music crystallizes the hard-hitting, hard-swinging spirit of Chicago jazz.” – Chicago Tribune.
